All of those were favorites of mine but none of those were really as memorable as Amazing Friends, even with it's cheese. Heck, the solo Spider-Man and Bionic Six both had more episodes than Amazing Friends but they can come across as pretty dry.

Not even Dr. Doom's story adapted from the early newspaper strips? That one is the best animated voice, look, and story of Dr. Doom imo to date

I'm a Simon Templeman fan myself but I always liked when Doom showed up in 81 Spider-Man. The whole Darth Vader styled voice and imposing presence cemented Doom as awesome in my kiddie brain.

I'm honestly a huge fan of those old series. I even have imports of the Region 2 dvds. I wasn't even alive during the original run but the 81 Spider-Man was pretty much my favorite solo Spidey series until Spectacular. I even liked it more than Amazing Friends until revisiting them years later. I think there were things that both got right where the other series didn't.

Batman/Superman, Batman: Hush, Ultimates 3, Ultimatum, Red Hulk.

Batman/Superman and Red Hulk were both popular and sold a lot. Hell, the Red Hulk book is no reaching it's 50th issue.

. I don't know if Spidey is the right hero to use as an outlet to show off all of the Marvel universe.

Except he is and he always has been. It's the reason why he was pretty much the Lead in Marvel team up, Much like how the most of the Brave and the Bold comic was Batman teaming up with other heroes.

Considering Spidey has teamed up or is friends with most of the MU, he is the perfect choice to show off the Marvel Universe. He has traveled most of it.

Yep, Frog Thor and all...

You kidding? Throg is awesome! You realize it happened in the comics, right?

Spider-Man is not a team player.

Actually, Spider-Man is indeed a team player. He has teamed up with numerous heroes and he has been part of multiple teams.

Kiddie show is so kiddie.

"Eye Roll"

Are you one of those 90's fans that wants everything to be "Dark", "Edgy" and "Extreme". Please. Sometimes, it good just having something that is fun. Not everything has to be Angst and depressing.

Also, kids are the targeted demographic, not the 50 something comicbook nerd.

In other news, It seems there will be am episode with the Classic Zodiac team of bad guys. That should be fun.

I kind of don't get the argument some people have about Spidey having team-ups and such. For like 10 plus years, people have been going crazy over wanting to see more of the Marvel universe in Spidey's show (just peruse some of the then recent messages on Ask Greg about TSSM) and then when it's finally happening, some people are mad about it. I could understand the preemptive hate against the show for being "the Spectacular Spider-Man killer" or for playing up on the humor ( some people just like things to be uber-serious because it's more "grown-up" or whatever) but I don't get how anybody can be really mad about it being more ingrained in the Marvel universe.

Hey. First time poster, but not a bot I swear haha. So I've seen the animated storyboards for Ultimate. And though I'm much more cautiously optimistic than some other people here (willing to give this a shot... I mean it's Marvel), I empathize with a lot of their gripes. Particularly the humor bit. I don't think it's a case of fans wanting the show to be uber-serious, it's a case of them wanting the humor to be, well... good. Humor is pretty much a central part in Spidey's character and fans know that. But Spidey has a witty, clever, kind of zingy type of humor in his banter. Peter's a smart guy and I think the jokes and levity serve to emphasize that. Spectacular was not devoid of humor. It was a hilarious show, but the jokes had a clear set-up, were well written, and for the most part all worked. Ultimate's... well... not so much.

There's a marked difference between (and I'm paraphrasing):

Spectacular instances of humor:
Betty Brant: "Jonah's a good guy deep down."
Peter: "Are we talking Marianna's Trench deep or Dante's 9th circle deep?"

Mysterio: "Mysterio is a master of the arcane arts!"
Spider-Man: "It seems to me that Mysteeeeerio is a master of talking about himself in the third-person."

and

Ultimate instances of humor (so far):
Spider-Man: "Doctor Doom I presume... heh rhyme."

Spider-Man: "WOO HOO! HOW AWESOME ARE WE?!"
*bad guy gets up* (or ground shakes or something... can't remember the details in the animatic)
*Spider-Man looks directly into the camera*
"That's not awesome..."

But to each his own.

It's more of a personal preference for me. It's not something I would PREFER in a Spidey show, but I don't count it as an actual fault. There are other things that worry me more about this show than just team-ups.

Yeah, I'm not digging those lines either so I can understand if they put anyone else off of the show. I think I have a higher cheese/goofiness tolerance than most people so while it's not the case for me, it wouldn't be surprising if it's a dealbreaker for some. As far as comparing the lines to TSSM though, those lines aren't in the same game as some of the show's best but that's not to say that TSSM didn't have it's extremely goofy moments as well. Personally, there are lots of little moments or quirks that got me to cringe the first time around just like these did but when everything else was coming together so great, I softened on a lot of that stuff. Heck, I think most of the comic shows I love have raging bits of goofiness in them that get drowned out by the good stuff.

I don't expect this show to come near TSSM (which is like my absolute favorite comic based show) but I'm optimistically expecting it to offset the goofiness with good as well. Just stepping up the animation quality and getting guys like Bendis and Dini involved have already been insanely huge pluses for me.

Those lines aren't any cheesier than what we heard in the new TASM trailer. Then again that movie is heavily inspired by the Ultimate series so there's that.

TSSM's Spidey Humor is some of the best we've gotten so far outside of the comics.

First piece of merchandise we've seen for this show, at Toy Fair.

Can't tell, but are those villain pictures based on their actual models in the show or just taken from the comics. Kinda think they look like they're from the comics.

Who are we looking at ? Venom, Goblin and Ock ?

Ock is the only one I can make out but he doesn't really resemble what we saw on the storyboards/animatics though, of course, those weren't really official character designs or anything. For all I know, they might look different on the model sheets and final product.

Yeah, it's the same stuff Quesada released last year.

Stop being stingy with the promotional material, Marvel. The debut is right around the corner and there's still really nothing new.

I remember when TSSM was this close to its premiere how stoked I was. Could not wait! Here, not so much...

I wasn't excited for Spectacular at all until I decided to give those first two episodes a chance on the morning it debuted. The Lizard episode that came the following week had me completely sold.

Still, there was a lot more promotional stuff for that show at this point than there is for this show.

Agreed. I was really excited for TSSM when it was about to premiere. It had been years since we had a Spidey series and that one looked, for lack of a better word, spectacular and it was.

This one, it just doesn't look that good to me. It feels like its only being made to have a new cartoon premiere alongside the new film rather than having to have TSSM, which would have been going into its 3rd or 4th seson, premiere alongside it.

Exactly. For a show premiering in a little less than 2 months, not much promotion is going into it.

Love the US costume. Always liked the red spider/tick on his back over the stylized crap we've gotten in the live action films.

If the villans look as faithful as spidey does and the stories are solid, this could be the best incarnation of Spidey since the 90's series....

Some people aren't willing to give this a chance because it isn't Spec' Spidey.
I too was upset over Spec' Spidey's cancellation, but there's nothing I, or we as fans, can or could do about it.
I'm gonna give this a chance because it's Spidey!
Also I'm pretty sure it was confirmed that Season 2 is already under production, so either

1) they know what they're doing with this show, or
2) Disney is backing this show because it's confident

Personally, I hope it's a combination of the 2

Yeah. I would've preferred more of Spec Spidey, but I'm going to give this show a chance. Although I won't be able to see it when it premieres since I'll be on vacation then, and the tv at my family's timeshare doesn't get Disney XD, but I'm gonna record it and watch it when I get home.

I'm excited for this. The animation looks fantastic. Paul Dini is also a plus.

I think more people were excited for Spec Spidey because it was coming after the short lived MTV series...which...wasn't too good...and heck before that it was Spider-Man unlimited...which was horrid. So pretty much anything looked pretty good.

The problem with this show when it comes to hype is the fact that the previous show set the bar extremely high. Add that to the fact that the show that set the bar was cancelled prematurely. So I think this show is going to be getting a lot of "The Batman" syndrome. Also, the lack of promotion and information doesn't help with getting people excited for the show as well...
