Sony has planed to release the first pictures of Underworld: Rise of the Lycans during the San Diego's Comic Con, between 24 and 27 July !!

For the moment, we don't know if we will be able to see a Teaser trailer or a teaser poster of the film, but we will have for sure pictures of the movie.

Awesome news.

Rhona Mitra’s nephew thinks she is “the greatest thing ever” since she landed the role of a vampire.

The 31-year-old ‘Doomsday’ actress has landed the lead female role of Sonja in 'Underworld 3: The Rise of the Lycans'.

Rhona revealed at least one member of her family was thrilled that she is set to star in the movie.

The British star said: “I have a four-year-old nephew who is probably going to think I’m the greatest thing ever now. I’m getting to wear armour and have fangs.”

Kate Beckinsale played blood-sucking warrior Selene in the first two movies, but quit the franchise to take on more challenging parts.

Kate’s husband, Len Wiseman, who directed the first two instalments, is producing the latest movie – a prequel to the original 2003 movie.

Both Bill Nighy and Michael Sheen are to reprise their roles as king of the vampires Victor and lycanthrope Lucian respectively.

Kate, who has a daughter Lily with ex-boyfriend Michael, met Len on the set of the first movie.

Rhona plays Sonja, daughter of Bill’s character Viktor and secret lover of Lucian, played by Michael.

Underworld 3, Possession Release Dates

A pair of release date updates for ya...

Screen Gems marked January 23, 2009 as a good time to unleash it's Underworld prequel, Underworld 3: Rise of the Lycans, on the big screen. Len Wiseman steps down from directing this time making room for FX vet Patrick Tatopolous. Michael Sheen, Bill Nighy and Rhona Mitra star.

Hey, remember when that Sarah Michelle Gellar-starring flick Possession was supposed to open last month? We wondered where it scampered off to when the PR folks behind this one stopped talking to us. Yari Film Group now locked in an October 3rd bow.

LOL I thought that was Selene at first. I'm glad that there is a female character in this. Judging by those stills this movie looks to kick ass. Victor looks awesome as always. I hope this is good and dark.

Remember Selene reminded Victor so much of Sonja thats why he let her survive.

SDCC 08: More Underworld 3 Details
Our man Tristan checked in a bit ago after sitting down with Underworld: Rise of the Lycans star Rhona Mitra with some more details on the sequel, due out on January 23rd, 2009.

Rhona plays Sonja, the daughter of Viktor (Bill Nighy again, thank God). She’s a vampire who falls in love with a Lycan, a romance strictly forbidden by the laws of the bloodsuckers as the Lycans are their slaves. Of course turmoil ensues and pretty soon there is all-out war, which is where we find them in the first film. She did say overall this film has more romance than the previous entries, but hopefully they won’t be spending too much time on that aspect. We just want to see monsters fighting!

Tristan questioned what the weapon of choice would be this time, since the film is a prequel and takes place before guns were around, and she said the vamps mainly work with blades, so expect lots of sword fights, while the Lycans stick to tooth & claw, which should be great to witness.

Bill Nighy Talks Underworld 3 At Comic Con
Once again at Comic Con we sat down with one of the coolest old guys I've ever known, Bill Nighy. While we chatted him up he was cracking jokes the whole time and I don't think he quite answered any of the questions without slipping in a little joke here and there which is always good when you have to talk to 20 different actors.

Nighy is an extremely humble actor and in is always doing things to be sure the director gets what he needs. Afterwards he sees the film do well and is pleased that a young director like Len Wiseman had made a name for himself. Nighy is already a well known actor who had friends all over in cinema and has worked on several big pictures including Pirates of the Caribbean.

When it came to Underworld he has always been more than happy to come back and reprise his role. To him it creates another unique opportunity to try and recapture that particular character. While he absolutely hates the make up and the action sequences, he does love the clothes and all the hot women who show them their bare necks.

He also had some funny comments about vampire lore, "I love it when they get technical. Like in the first one they had bullets that were made of glass which contained harnessed daylight. (Pause) You know what I mean? It's sooo stupid and yet so perfect, ya know? (laughs) In terms of vampire lore its righteous and if you fire one of those into a vampire it implodes and the daylight floods his system and he ceases to exist. It's perfect, ya know what I mean. It's perfect nonsense and it has style."

To end the conversation he was asked if he would come back and be a part of Edgar Wrights "Blood & Ice Cream Trilogy". To which he answered, "I would love to be! He once said to me, when he wanted me to be in Hot Fuzz, he wanted me to be in every movie he ever made. Lets see if you meant it Edgar!"

The Director of Underworld 3 Speaks!

We had a chance at Comic Con to talk to the director of Underworld 3 Patrick Tatopoulos.. try and say that 5 times fast. Its a mouthful. This is the french directors first foray into the directors seat but he is hardly a newbie in Hollywood. He is primarily a creature designer who has learned the craft of directing by hard work and dedication to the art. He did the creature design on Silent Hill, Trick R Treat and Underworld Evolution. So he definitely has some skills and is a visual person who has the potential to deliver a truly stunning piece of film. Patrick is quite open about the fact that Hollywood is fickle and tells us that he knows that this film could make or break any future career he has in the directors chair. At least in his case he has something to fall back on since he has done the Creature Design or FX or Art Direction on some of the best horror films of the last 5 years. The guy wears alot of hats well.

In shooting Underworld Rise of the Lycans he was fully aware that fans were looking for a sequel and might have a luke warm reaction to the fact that its a prequel. One of the things that drew Patrick to the film was the fact it was a prequel. Although he will be staying true to the film franchise the prequel gives him a chance to introduce new environments, new characters and an exciting new experience for fans who enjoyed the first two films.

This take on the Underworld tale is a prequel that is based in medieval times and unlike the past films it will be told from the eyes of the Werewolves. Patrick compares it to Gangs of New York, and Romeo and Juliet... oh and Underworld. He says the scale of the battles is not War of the Worlds with millions of vampires fighting werewolves but more of the scale of Gangs of New York. The story is told through the eyes of the werewolves and is about their breaking free from their masters the vampires. It is a love story compared to Romeo and Juliet because it tells the story of Sonja and Lucian. Obviously some might wonder how action packed it will or will not be but Patrick makes the comparison to Underworld for a reason. It is going to be action packed but its much more then just a Vampire vs Werewolf tale. It has characters with depth and a story to tell as well as being action packed!

Underworld 3 is now completely shot and is going into its final FX phase where they put the spit and polish on the film, edit it and make it look the way it should. Dark.. brooding and just plain awesome. Here is hoping Underworld 3 delivers a knockout punch and gives us fans what we want! More from Patrick later this week!
