The Avengers Unresolved Storyline Thread

IRON MAN

1) Pepper appears in The Avengers (as seen in the latest Japanese trailer). I doubt there's been any change in a relationship between her and Tony.

2) I think you're assuming that the military has some control over The Avengers Initiative. The military wanted Blonsky on The Avengers, but SHIELD/Fury opposed this. Anyway, it's a SHIELD run project with Fury presumably handling the roster. I'm sure he has his reasons for choosing Stark over Rhodes - and some seem a bit obvious (Stark's intellect and innovative skills seem to be highly valuable).

3) Considering the heightened threat level of the situation, it seems logical to bring in Stark as an actual member rather than merely a 'consultant'.

HULK

1) I doubt that the movie will address this relationship, primarily because of the fact that it'd be best suited for a future Hulk movie. If anything, she might be brought up when SHIELD is trying to convince Banner to join the roster.

THOR

1) I think it's a certainty that this will be explained.

2) Just like the Hulk point, I doubt The Avengers will explain what happened. Besides, Thor comes to Earth in search of Loki, and when his brother gets his hands on the Cube and brings in an alien army - there's little time for any talk about Jane. And if there was, it's not exactly Thor's/other people's greatest priority. Leave it to Thor 2. And your comment about them 'forgetting each other' is a mighty exaggeration.

CAPTAIN AMERICA

1) I'd assume this will be addressed in the whole 'sub-story' of Steve being brought back into the world. I don't think they'd have Peggy dead - but old, instead. It'd be reasonable to guess that some of the Commandos might be still alive, but their fate might or might not be explained.

Can someone explain to me the Cosmic Cube's timeline? How does it end up behind that wall in Norway? Schmidt mentioned it was "the jewel of Odin's treasure room". Are we to assume the events of Thor, specifically the scenes on Asgard, did not take place at the same time as the events of 21st century Earth, and they were actually hundreds of years in the past...Earth time?

I remember reading somewhere back during all the interviews for Thor or Captain America that Odin had multiple 'treasure rooms' - one being in Norway. Presumably, Odin had the Cosmic Cube stored there a long time ago (after the Frost Giants invasion, perhaps), along with other valuable treasures - and the Cube was the 'greatest' and the jewel of that room back then. After that, the room may have been lost to legend and forgotten - left to gather dust and cobwebs. Thor's scenes on Asgard (except the ones where Thor and Loki are children, probably) definitely take place in the 21st century, though - there's no indication of otherwise.

Actually, SHIELD reports to the World Council, and he was ordered by them to approach Ross to get Blonsky on the team. And as it was just recently revealed in the latest prequel comic book (Avengers Prelude), they're the ones that gave Ross the access codes to go into the SHIELD Database to look for Banner.

I think things will make more sense if we find out as to when Thor exactly found out on how to transport between realms on his own will.

If we learn that he was able to do it for some time before the events of the Avengers and still chose not to see Jane without a valid reason, then that somewhat negates the intentions behind the drama created at the end of "Thor" where Thor was left wanting to see Jane again.

If his ability to travel was something just recent and that when he had learned it was when he had found out that Loki was alive, then it would make sense for me at least as to why he didn't go after Jane right away when he learned the technique to travel.

As shown in Thor, the Asgardians are long-lived (Odin makes an appearance on Earth before/during the age of the Vikings). Thor himself was also hinted to have visited Earth some time in the past when one of the Warriors Three mentioned him "impressing mortals with thunder and lightning."

However, you're right about Thor's Asgard scenes mostly taking place in the 21st Century. Unless Asgard and Earth have a weird timeline relation to each other (the theory of relativity can work in funny ways).

I personally hope Jane Foster at least has a small cameo in the film. It wouldn't make sense to me to not have her since that was a BIG cliffhanger - her trying to bring him back, and him trying to get back to her. Otherwise I basically just see Thor showing up out of thin air lol. How did he get back? I'm really hoping she was a part of it to keep some continuity up and that he just isn't magically suddenly there.

If he's just there - it'll be a big plot hole. Last we heard of him there's no way back without A LOT of work - now suddenly he's back. Just too big of a leap. I don't really think Betty/Banner/Hulk relates here - it's all military basically and there is no dimensional travel machine that broke down - since it's all real world grounded and from what we've seen they probably find him the same way they always do - he shows up on the grid.

everyone's talking of Thor and Jane.. what about Cap and Sharon? Is it still thought that Amanda Righetti is playing Sharon? She is not listed as a Shield Agent on IMDB as she was in TFA. But the website that shall not be named said she does indeed play sharon and is Cap's way of connecting and dealing with the Peggy situation through out avengers.

Fandral,

"This isnt like Earth were you summon a little thunder and the natives worship you as a god!"

How is this a plot hole? We haven't seen how he shows up in The Avengers. He's not just going to magically show up without explanation. But expecting Jane to bring him back is kind of silly. Neither she nor anyone from Earth had anything to do with him being brought to Earth or returning to Asgard in Thor. Unlike Pepper, who is integral to Tony's day to day life, Jane is unnecessary. Would be nice to see her, but a simple mention would suffice.

I agree Jane in this is unnecessary and not relevent to the overall story of the Avengers. Personally, I feel Betty is someone who should've been included and would be necessary to the story, moreso than Jane or Pepper, since she has been the only person who could calm the Hulk down.

Unfortunately I don't think Liv wanted to come back for this movie without Norton. Recasting the part without a solo film introduction would be a no-no IMO. But, if Betty is in the movie, then I really hope not to find out till I see it next month.

Yeah, it's kind of a bind because I feel Betty should be in the Avengers but I feel the role would have to be recast, since Tyler and Norton had such chemistry, one without the other wouldn't feel right and recasting her should be kept for a future Hulk film, I guess leaving her out was the only option.

Personally, I liked Jennifer Connelly better. They could bring her back if they really wanted a betty ross appearance, or just paid Tyler a ridiculous amount of money to do it. Money talks in the end(especially now with Disney at the top)

I would have liked for them to have kept Jane a paramedic..It would have made more sense as far as a cameo goes in avengers, I think. Seeing her attending to civilians as the attack happens or being in route to an accident, something along those lines. oh well.

Maybe we'll see or hear something in regards to T-bolt or abomination for a Hulk nod in the movie

Well, Jane as an astrophysicist could still be one of the first alerted to Loki's invasion. Plus, doesn't her colleague Selvig have some sort of minor role in Avengers?

Not so. Disney doesn't finance Marvel Studios films, they only put money towards marketing and distribution. That's how they are with all their subsidiary studios. In this case, the final word regarding Norton's departure was money. They wouldn't meet his requested quota.

That too. With the tag ending, it would be odd for that to not be seen at all in 'The Avengers.'

As to Jane bringing him back - that wasn't really a plot point I came up with, that was how 'Thor' ended. With both of them on both sides working to find a way to travel back and forth again. Just feel like the conclusion of that movie needs a better resolution it felt just as much open-ended as Captain America did to me (ending abruptly almost to lead straight into 'The Avengers'). It would just seem very off to ignore the way that film ended.
