Urgent: Need help choosing internet have questions about speed

Okay I'm going to be getting my own apartment, and I'm getting cable and internet together bundled in a package. I'm trying to choose the right package. Under the packages on the site, it says 768 kbps, which I'm assuming means kilabytes per second. Some say 15mbps which I'm assuming means megabytes per second. Is this correct? Also how many kilabytes are in a megabyte. And would 768 kbps be unbearably slow? I'm not sure how to compare this. I've been using internet all the time for years, but I've never paid for it. I have no idea what speed internet I'm using right now.

kpbs is not Kilobytes per second, but kilobits per second.

Here's a quick conversion chart:

256 kbps = ~31 KB/s

384 kbps = ~46.9 KB/s

512 kbps = ~62.5 KB/s

768 kbps = ~93.8 KB/s

1 mbps = ~122.1 KB/s
