Aden Young (Rectify) and Logan Marshall-Green (Prometheus) are cast as leads in USA Network’s drama pilot Damnation. The Path‘s Sarah Jones, Chasten Harmon (BrainDead), Hell on Wheels alum Christopher Heyerdahl, and Melinda Page Hamilton (Devious Maids) round out the series regular cast.

Written and created by Tony Tost (Longmire), Damnation is described as an epic saga of the secret history of the 1930s American heartland, chronicling the mythic conflict and bloody struggle between big money and the downtrodden, God and greed, charlatans and prophets. The pilot centers on Seth Davenport (Young), a man masquerading as a small town Iowa preacher in the hopes of starting a full-blown insurrection against the status quo. Focused on his mission, he is unaware that an industrialist tycoon has hired a professional strikebreaker named Creeley Turner to stop the uprising by any means necessary. But unbeknownst to those around them, these two men already share a secret bloody past.

Jones will play Amelia Davenport, who puts on a modest front as a preacher’s wife in order to disguise her fierce political ambitions. She most recently was seen as the mysterious Alison on The Path. Her other TV credits include Texas Rising and Vegas. Jones is repped by UTA and Management 360.

Harmon will portray Bessie Louvin, a recent arrival to the local house of ill repute who is literate and cunning with Machiavellian plans to achieve a life of independence. Harmon can be seen in Paterson, which made its debut at Cannes Film Festival and screened at TIFF. She most recently came off a guest spot in BrainDead, and will be seen in the upcoming series Pure Genius and on Elementary. Harmon is repped by Generate and Don Buchwald & Associates.

Canadian actor Heyerdahl will play Don Berryman, the charming local sheriff who in fact ruthlessly controls the county’s moonshining, bootlegging and prostitution rackets. Heyerdahl recently worked with Neil LaBute on Syfy’s Van Helsing and is filming Rowan Joffe’s Tin Star opposite Tim Roth and Christina Hendricks. He is repped by Greene & Associates Talent Agency.

Hamilton is Connie Nunn, a brutally efficient professional strikebreaker who will arrive in Iowa seeking revenge for her husband’s murder. Hamilton was a series regular on Devious Maids and recurred on Mad Men and Big Love. She also starred in Bobcat Goldthwait’s comedy feature, Sleeping Dogs Lie. She is repped by SDB Partners and Sager Entertainment.

Young recently wrapped the third season as the lead in Sundance TV’s Rectify, which will wrap after Season 4. His credits include features Black Robe and Sniper. He’s repped by CAA, Shanahan Management and the Artist Representation Company. Marshall-Green, who played Charlie Holloway in Prometheus, plays the titular lead in Cinemax’s Quarry. Repped by CAA, 3 Arts and Stone Genow, he most recently appeared in Karyn Kusama’s The Invitation and Oliver Stone’s Snowden.

David Mackenzie (Hell or High Water) is set to direct the pilot from executive producers Tost, James Mangold, and Guymon Casady and Daniel Rappaport on behalf of Entertainment 360. The pilot will be produced by Universal Cable Productions.

Yup, looks good with an interesting story. It seems that Aden Young dropped out and got replaced with Killian Scott. I like Logan Marshall-Green and have been planning to check out his show Quarry.

Looks interesting, more like an AMC show than one you'd fine on USA.

TV Review: ‘Damnation’ on USA

The trouble with “Damnation,” if it can be summed up into one problem, is that the show is a clear homage to HBO’s golden-age drama “Deadwood,” which brought context and color to the Western in a way that still feels indelibly brilliant. “Damnation” leans on many of the older show’s devices — twinkly, ethereal banjo; a brothel populated with a couple of tough, no-nonsense ladies; the expletive “********er”; even a protagonist named Seth, torn between violence and goodness But ultimately it is quite a different show. “Damnation” is set 60-odd years later — outside of the context of American expansion, the Civil War, and the gold rush — and in a very different part of the country. Iowa isn’t exactly the Wild West, no matter how many cowboy hats the characters wear.

I liked Killian Scott a lot in Ripper Street. I may check this out.

My problem with this show is the protagonist looks really boring. It should have been the other way around. Green is the protagonist and from his point of view, the good guy but still the bad guy and the priest is considered the antagonist but is actually the better guy.

Plus I'm getting sick of the double life anti hero idea on tv.

Just watched the premiere; great characters, intriguing premise. My only complaint so far is that The Swede isn’t speaking with his Hell on Wheels accent, lol. Also, I loved that there was a scene set in Harlan County. Made me nostalgic for Justified.

Damnation gets damned.

USA Network has canceled drama “Damnation” after one season.

In its lone season, “Damnation” attracted few viewers. Co-produced by Universal Cable Production and Netflix, which had streaming rights to the series, the show starred Logan Marshall-Green, Killian Scott, Chasten Harmon, Sarah Jones, Melinda Page Hamilton, and Joe Adler in a drama set in 1930s middle America. The show was executive produced by Tony Tost, James Mangold, Guymon Casady, and Daniel Rappaport.

Season one averaged a 0.18 rating in the 18-49 demo according to Nielsen live-plus-same day numbers and 682,000 total viewers.

The cliffhanger is the only thing keeping the season finale from being a great series finale.
