Very absurd. Completely nuts. Very damaging.

I mean seriously. This has no place in the discussion over climate change. You can't take a book written 2000 years ago and say "I interpret this HIGHLY interpretable book to say there cannot be climate change, therefore there is not climate change".

Any discussion about whether there is or isn't has to be around the evidence

It's amazing to me that these people can not only be elected, but can get positions of authority in which they quote the bible as 'evidence'.

Our problems are scientific and technological. We need the proper experts to inform the public on these issues.

(Putting on white robe and Fakespearean accent)"Jor-el... What you speak of is madness!! Krypton is not about to explode... How absurd!"

Climate change is quite real. I just don't see any point trying to fight it.

The best things in the world can and often are still be abused/misused.

Climate change isn't real folks...just like gravity.

Ugh, these people again..they make being a Christian dude very hard

Who else thinks religion and politics should be separated? Oh wait. It's separation of church and state. Who thinks this should be a little bit more enforced?

They are at the same level of those that would once condemn any notion or discussion of the Earth not being the center of the universe, and it actually revolving around the sun, just because it didn't jibe with their bible .

I remember reading about another American (of course) politician who is convinced Earth was created 2000 years ago. Honestly, I fear the day any of these idiots become president more than I fear any dictator in North Korea or wherever

How in the world do these people get into positions that require scientific expertise?

Because they tend to be suck up yes men who blindly follow whoever promises them shiny things.

And unfortunately, they vote.

The whole "flat earth" belief was nonsense to begin with, since the Bible actually teaches the planet is round.

"He sits enthroned above the circle of the earth, and its people are like grasshoppers. He stretches out the heavens like a canopy, and spreads them out like a tent to live in." ~Isaiah 40:22~

The original Hebrew word for "circle" in this verse can also be translated as "round" or "sphere".

...or whatever other term conveniently would make it right.

Good for you! Nobody mentioned a flat earth except you,:whatever: but thanks for helping point out why we don't take creation mythology verse and metaphor that don't distinguish between circles and a spheres, and use them to interpret modern science and phenomenon.
Which is what these guys in the vid. are ridiculously doing.

You know how we're required to pass an exam or a test before we graduate from a class? Or high school? College? How we must prove we are experienced and knowledgable in our profession before we're hired (or at the very least, trained)?

That needs to apply to politics. If you can't show a degree in science, especially one related to a position you're applying for, you can't take that position.

Everyone here is assuming that politicians really believe this nonsense, and aren't just pandering to the idiots in their base.

I agree. There should be some sort of prerequisite so that idiots like this can't even make it to the primaries. Because some idiot will always vote for them.

This is one of the many reasons we want Harper out of office. He refuses to do anything or support people on climate change issues.

By those idiots' "logic", we will never have a nuclear war, because it would contradict the Bible. So, good to know that'll never happen.

Unless they become scientologists. They can use the bombs all they want then because THE GREAT AND POWERFUL LORD XENU HAS DONE AS WELL!!!

You know the Republicans are just trolling Democrats (and every sane person) by putting Inhofe on the Environment Committee.

LMAO, Santorum at the end. I wonder if he uses that logic with his house? "The house is my dominion and all in it is for my benefit not its benefit. Oh, the house needs a new coat of paint. How's that gonna help me right now at this very moment? Hah it won't! **** this house and its needs! I need a new jetski and a new suburban to lug it around! Wooooo!!!"

What I wanna see is a brave politician pull verses from the koran and various other religious texts and pull them out when one of these people pull out their bible verses. Then just watch the bible thumpers **** bricks when they realize this country is in fact a country of many religions and if they can pull out their religious boohaki another person of another religion can too.

I think you're misunderstanding that particular phrase. The Constitution is pretty clear:

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof."

What you are proposing is not a separation of church and state (a phrase which is never mentioned in the Constitution, btw), but an idea that goes against the very Amendment you're citing, because there is NO way to separate every politicians personal beliefs (religious or otherwise) from their actions. To tell someone that they must ignore/denounce their personal views - or outright keep religious people from holding office - is in fact a prohibition of the free exercise of religion and discrimination at it's finest. What other beliefs would you like to see keep people from holding office? Where would this type of censorship and control end? Will we eventually outlaw people with basic political opinions that you disagree with? "What's that? You think the federal government is too big and spends too much money? Well, anyone who agrees with you can no longer use that belief to influence your decisions - scratch that, you are just prohibited from being a politician!" How the hell would you even enforce this proposed control over people's beliefs? Should we call the Thought Police?

Look, I agree with anyone who says that denying the importance of more responsible care for the environment is stupid. And I agree that it's even more stupid for people to use the Bible or other religious concepts as a reason for said denial than simple ignorance of fact. I personally can't fathom how people would say we don't need to take better care of this place, especially when the very bible some of these loons use to defend their stance actually DEMANDS that people protect the Earth and chews people out for ruining it. Thankfully the majority of religious people understand this - its always the crazy minority that is loudest (and usually for personal gain).

Yes, their claims are stupid, but the idea of fundamentally changing the government's control over who can think what is far more harmful than a handful of crazy politicians and their followers denying a fact everyone else knows to be true. Either ignore them and continue working to protect this planet, vote them out of office, or enlighten them. Censorship NEVER fixes anything and only gives those you censor a greater sense of "right" which leads victim-mongers to scream even louder.
