Val Kilmer and George Clooney were both great choices for Batman, unfortunetly they didn't get to realise more than 000000000000.1% of their potential.

clooney was just miscast, period, bad script or not. he doesn't have the capability to be truly threatening, with that gravel-filled voice. can you see clooney pulling off the whole "swear to me!" line in begins? i think not. clooney just doesn't have an inherent darker edge, which is so necessary.

of the bat-actors besides bale, val kilmer had the most potential to truly succeed, but was let down by joel schumacher as director (they didn't get along during batman forever due to schumacher's lack of guidance and other things). kilmer had the edge, the good looks, and the body mass for the role, but he just came across as wooden sometimes. given a decent director and script, i'm sure he would've done a great job.

I always thought Kilmer was a good Batman an a terrible Bruce Wayne an vice-versa with Clooney. My biggest thing is Kilmer had a pretty good Batman voice but it ended up being his Bruce Wayne voice to an Clooney used his Wayne voice for Batman.

Both of them were bad, but Kilmer less so, so I'll go with him.

Anybody think Clooney could play Gordon in a future Batman film?....Like TDKR?

Huh? I think we watched a different film, Val Kilmer used a different voice for both Batman and Bruce Wayne, it was similiar to Keaton's way to do it, in fact it seems he was just taking cues from Keaton's performance.

I take it you haven't seen Dusk till Dawn?

Clooney is the very personification of bad ass in that film.

Both him and Kilmer could of been great Batmans if given better material. I do not doubt this for a second.

But I give the edge to Kilmer as I thought Forever actually had some cool scenes with Bruce. The revaluation about his Father's diary and what not. And when Bruce and Dick were arguing.

Dick: I'm gonna kill Two Face and you can't stop me...(or something like that anyway)
Bruce: I CAN stop you.

That was bad ass. And I loved the scene when he was explaining to Dick about revenge and that it isn't all it cracked up to be.

Clooney was totally wrong for Bruce.

Its like Hugh Hefner being cast as Superman.

I think Kilmer did a much better job all around, and despite the interpretation of Two-Face, I still enjoy Batman Forever. ;)

Kilmer for me, but both where kinda bad if we are honest. Kilmer looked too much of a pretty boy in the suit & I thought Clooney looked worse in his..

I don't think either looked or acted like Batman, but Kilmer was the lesser of the 2 evils.

This is entirely subjective (I bet everyone must have their own ideas) but as much as I like both Keaton and Bale, Kilmer still is my favourite visual representation of Bruce Wayne / Batman, not necessarily the acting but to me thats how he would look like in real life.

Val Kilmer is still my favorite Batman after all these years. Beats George Clooney and all the rest of them. He just looks the most like Batman, and Bruce Wayne, to me. I guess like some people have said already he can come off a little stiff. But I think it works for the character. I think Batman is supposed to be that way.

With proper workout and director,Kilmer would've been the perfect Bruce Wayne/Batman.

Too bad shumacher didn't shall I say WB didn't listen.

Batman Year One would been perfect for Val Kilmer to play in.

George just didnt have the Batman presence. He was wrong for the role.

Its like casting Joey from Friends as Commissioner Gordon.
