Venom-Topher

Well, you could have someone fitting the physical criteria, but what if he can't act to save his life?

From the Comicon stuff, Topher doesn't look to disappoint.

Personally I think Topher would have been the perfect Peter Parker. It looks like they are going for the anti-Peter or the "evil mirror image" angle with this.

I agree. I think a lot of people are going to be surprised and impressed with Topher's portrayal as Eddie. I wasn't disappointed with the cast for the first and second movie, and I don't expect this time to be any different. I think we'll see a whole new side of Topher come SM3.

Topher Grace is too young to start with. Eddie Brock should be in his mid-thirties. You can find ****loads of good actors in that age range, dye their hair reddish blond and get rolling. Then all you have to do next is put any buffed bodybuilder in a nicely designed Venom suit and apply some nice CGI Fx all over it! The reason I insist on the bodybuilder part is because, in my opinion, Venom can't be scary and threatening if he's not huge! The teeth and the drooling oversized tongue is not enough. You need some body structure contrast between Spidey and Venom to make it work. The Venom we all seen in the trailer looks puny...

But I still think SM3 will kick some serious butt though.

Topher Grace is the worst cast ever. According to the Marvel Universe, Venom/Eddie's stats are:
Height: 6'3"
Weight: 260lbs
Hair: Reddish Blond
Eyes: Blue

Why does Hollywood screw everything up. The guy is built like a bodybuilder! Topher is a rail. WTF

You people are just paranoid that Venom will be skinny. Topher was a great cast and you will find out May 4th.

I've been saying all along that since Venom is completely costumed, it really doesn't matter how big he is, because once he's in the suit, they can beef him up to however much they need to. Plus, Topher can act, and I really think he can pull off the serious-ness, even though he is mostly a comedic performer in his past.

Welcome to last year.

You are saying VENOM and not Eddie Brock. Ever hear of CGI? They can make him as huge as they want. Not everything has to be exactly like the comics. Minor changes happen here and there. Like vegeta21 said, Raimi is most likely going the anti-Parker route instead of Brock being a huge ass bodybuilder.

You don't have to be huge to be intimidating. You see short people, skinny people, etc..., in reality where other people are intimidated by them by their words or actions. Size can play a factor of fearness but its not the only one.

topher does not have to have very big muscle. he is buffed a bit. venom will be cgi in some scenes and topher will be in costume in some scenes, they have rubber to make muscles for the suit. topher is and looks the best to play eddie brock.

Of course they can make a CGI character as big as they want. I've seen the Hulk. Now, there's my point. I don't believe that a complete CGI character is good enough for this movie. This is not Gollum we're talking about here, it's Venom. Venom is a physical character AND a scary one. It's always better in my opinion to have a real flesh and blood person in a suit for this type of part than a total CGI load of animated pixels. You all saw what it does when Spidey is animated. It's off. Now, I'm ready to go for anything that Raimi will come up with but still, I have many reasons to think that it won't work. I really want to be wrong and love the movie. But even if my impressions are proved right, I might still enjoy it. Trust me, i'm not b itch ing here. :cwink:

I actually, um, I was kind of creeped out by Gollum. And even if he's in a suit, we're not going to see any of his body, so they can still beef him up if he's not CGI, like I said before, using pads or plates or whatever. So if they have control over that part, all we really have to worry about is this: Can Topher create a convincing Brock? I think yes, partly because of faith in Raimi, and then, well, because of faith in Topher. Like I said before, he's mainly a comedic performer, but Sony went to him for the role, so its obvious that they saw something they liked. Plus, he is apparently a fan of the comics and the characters, so he will most likely give it his all. I'm really not worried.

I'm sorry, I think I came off sounding like a jerk in my response to you.

Well, I can agree about the whole CGI thing because in some parts it can just come up looking too unrealistic. Well, Topher doesn't exactly need to be in the suit (But what was said at comic-con contridicts this but whatever), some bigger stuntman could be in the suit and Topher can be in the suit just for the parts where Venom retracts his mask or something.

The thing is, why would they bulk Eddie up when he is in the symbiote, when Parker was normal sized in it?

now, that's actually a good question. The only reason (in the comics) why Venom was big was because Eddie Brock used to pump up big time thinking about a way to revenge from Spider-Man. But since the Topher Grace version of Brock isn't a buffed dude, there's no point for Venom being huge now... So maybe Raimi is right about this.

If I were making the film, and I wanted Venom to be larger than Spider-Man, I would just go with the explanation that Brock's hatred fuels the symbiote, and since Peter is really not a hateful person at heart, it cannot take its true form on him.

Matt Dillon would be my choice but lets see how Topher does it. When I read comics I always heard William Dafoe's voice when I read GG comics. It didnt happen with Tobey until I saw the 2nd flick. hopefully Toper will surprise us all

look at these two photos. topher looks exactly like eddie brock and from what we have seen in the trailer he acts just like eddie brock which is a good thing.

HAH.

Topher: So anyway, it's really a case study of how two people who have the same taste in wom--hang on.....uhhnnhhh. Sorry, I've been holding that all morning, what were we talking about?

But no, yeah, he resembles Eddie, good point.
