Video lighting?

Can anyone tell me how to lighten this gif(or well the rest of that scene in general)? I was thinking about downloading Adobe's After Effects and using the free trial in order to do it. Anyone know other programs I can use for free maybe?

After effects CS5 cant export GIFs anymore, you would have to colour correct it in after effects then export it as JPG to photoshop and make a GIF there.

If you wanted to do it the adobe way that is

I'd rather try and keep it as a gif or in mp4 format while working on it if possible.
