Villain Ideas Based on previous SM Video Games

In the movie-based Spider-man and Spider-man 2 video games that came out for Xbox, PS2, PC and Gamecube there were many villains put in as bosses other than Green Goblin and Doc Ock. Such villains included Vulture, Scorpion, Shocker, Rhino, Mysterio and Black Cat (not really a villain). There were others, but I can't remember them all just now.

It has been my thinking that they have left out certain villains on purpose so that when a video game for SM3 or SM4 comes out, we don't see the main bad guy for that game (based on the movie villain) be some mini-boss that we beat in a previous game.

Omissions from these games include Sandman, Lizard, Venom/Carnage, Kraven, and GG2/Hobgoblin (though the arc of SM2 includes harry, so it fits with whatever the movies end up doing). They never had that doppelganger character either, I don't think.

Based on who they have left out of the games, we may be able to figure out who they plan to actually put into a future movie. Has Electro been in the games? Who else has been missing? Does this make sense as a villain theory? Close this thread if there is one like it already, but I couldn't find one.

well they have to get permission from marvel for each character they use, which leads me to suggest they were asked not to use certain characters just to be on the safe side in case they want to use them later. Marvel makes money off of the games, but Sony doesn't.

Now however the appearance of Black Cat leads me to suggest that isn't the case, because chances are she was seriously considered for part 3 because she was almost in part 2.

well maybe they had the rights already to use her for part 2 so put her in the game but ended up having no intention to actually introduce her in SM3 or beyond...i guess we'll never know - at least not until a dvd-boxed set comes out with all the spiderman movies once they are over and done with and we have some quality retroscopic commentary

In #2's commentary they said she originally was going to be in part 2, and that hopefully she would find her place in part 3.

i see - i don't own the SM DVDs for some odd reason, so i haven't heard the commentaries...i wonder if they are in anyway going to mess things around by giving gwen the black cat suit? i would prefer that they don't find a place for BC in SM3 if that was even an option.

but anyway i think that having no lizard in the movie-based video games means there is definitely potential to have him on-screen sometime (soon?) as well as venom, sandman, and others

Well, in the first Sider-man Movie Game, you get to play as Harry Osborn as the Green Goblin in a full and complete outfit. Plus he is a good guy when you play as him. The only thing that bothered me was when you fight the Green Goblin at the end, they don't tell you who he was.

oh yeah i forgot about that - well maybe that's a way of saying harry could be GG2 but as a mostly good guy but since he didn't find out about his dad in SM1, they couldn't let him know it in the game - i'm thinking that they want the continuity of the games to match each other and at the same time not clash with the movies.

Ever since I played as Harry/GG2 in the game, I've been saying that he is going to be a good guy.
Now after seeing and hearing how all the characters have been changed so damatically from their *respective* comic counter-parts, I truly believe it will be a good GG2 after all.

oh yeah i forgot about that - well maybe that's a way of saying harry could be GG2 but as a mostly good guy but since he didn't find out about his dad in SM1, they couldn't let him know it in the game - i'm thinking that they want the continuity of the games to match each other and at the same time not clash with the movies.

they had no idea what would happen in part 3 when the first game was released. not to mention the people that make the game are not the same people that make the movies. the producers of the second game didn't know anything about the movie untill a couple months before it's release.

well i figure that raimi had at least a few ideas of where he wanted to take the spider-man franchise...and i assume that he somehow had input on the content of both games - which isn't far fetched since you had the actors voicing their lines for each game. the makers of the second game knew nothing about the second movie until a couple months before its release? so they just came up with sotrylines and characters that happened to match the second movie perfectly? and all in a couple of months? i think you might be wrong.

they worked closely with each other for both games.
that is how they knew set, costumes, story, Villians, and everything else.

cool, that's what i figured
hence this is why i think that they have left out key villains with the plans to use them in future movies and their tie-in games

it's true. I read a long article in a gaming magazine about how this made things so difficult for them. they spent a long time making new york and figuring out how to make spider-man move. they knew who the villain would be. then at the last minute they added in Harry's obsession. the conflict of bein in the right place at the right time with MJ, the pizza place, and Ock's fusion reactor.

they did it this way to prevent leaks.

it was in the X-box version.
I had the Gamecube Version.
I had a PS2. but i used it mainly for a dvd player since most of the games IMO suked. I always bought games for the GCN and if they didn't come out for that system and i really wanted it (evil dead games/.Hack//Games) i would buy them for the ps2 only then.

Good thinking I thought this too. Then when you see they've used Venom as the second playable character in Ultimate Spider-Man it leads me to believe he's one the favourites to be in the movie. Let's face it the games have used Venom as a key character on more than one occasion so I do believe this is all leading to him having a BIG influenece in the films

Good point. I doubt he'll look like ol' purple-chops though.

I'd love to see Beetle, Shocker, Mysterio, Rhino, Electro, heck Spider Slayers would all be more beleivable than Venom in the movie.

Im with him until the part about venom, venom has to be in a spiderman film. But i'd most likely like to see the sinister 6, altogether, with captain america and the red skulland electro, Now that would be a block buster film.
