Is it possible that the villains in the movie will be too sympathetic?

Specifically: Brock becomes venom by accidentally getting slimed by the Symbiote.. thus, Spidey may feel “responsible” for his creation..
Harry Osborn decides to become the Goblin 2.0, driven by the idea that Spidey/Pete murdered his father. Of course we know that’s not the case, but Pete may still feel “guilty” about Harry’s grief..
Flint Marko’s on the run from police when he gets his powers by accident.. He’s alleged to be an accomplice in Uncle Ben’s death, which sends Spidey overboard, but there’s likely more to this.. certainly since there’s supposed to be a wife & child in the film..

I bring this up not to downgrade the film but I’m wondering if the filmmakers were “trying too hard” in coming up with backstories & motivations.. I want Spidey to be able to battle villains without constantly wondering “gosh.. they’re not really that bad.. he does have a sick mother in the hospital..”

Um...you just described Venom and GGII as they appear in the comic....Sandman is the only one that they changed...

That's beside the fact that this IS Spider-Man....typical 'Parker luck', Spider-Man always ends up creating more and more problems...

Your disgruntled description of the film's villains, just makes me want to see it even more. Sony should put you guys on their promotion team.

Harry becoming the goblin is actually Norman's fault. He brought the juice home. He should have kept it out of reach of children...and he souldn't have taken any, either.

Keep it out of reach? Norman hid the damn stuff in a freakin secretly hidden cave or lair or what ever you wanna call it.

It's always sad to see a fellow long-time poster make a completely useless thread in not knowing wtf they're talking about.:o

Wasn't there this exact same thread last summer?

Eddie Brock Jr is right. Sandman is the only one they changed. Also, Eddie asks God to kill Peter Parker. not many people are going to sympathize a guy who just asked God to kill somebody. The symbiote gives him the power to that himself, so Venom's defiantly not sympathetic.

And also...the last part of the first Spider-Man...Peter clearly says the more he does, the more his loved ones get hurt...so, of course Peter's bad luck will be spawned to Harry...and of couse Sandman with this new canon with him...and, even though Eddie's not a loved one, he will feel bad for what "he" did that created this Venom character...it's tragic, but Spider-Man's story will always be tragic.

I don't feel much sympathy for Brock in the comics. He brought on all his misfortunes himself and only blamed Spider-Man becasue he could not own up to the fact that his faulty jounalism caused all his problems.

True...but it still doesn't change the fact that SM3 isn't changing his portrayal that much...

Well aside from the fact that he's a photographer, around Peter's age and has a grudge against Peter....things do seem relatively close to the comics. I just hope he's not portrayed as too sympathetic in the movie. Though asking God to kill someone, as mentioned before, doesn't gather much sympathy.

I ask Satan to kill God, than we have a real fight on our hands

Green Goblin- turned insane by the green serum
Doc Ock- turned insane by some freak accident
Sandman- turn to crime to help his daughter
New Goblin- turn villian to have revenge on his dad (or so he thought)
Venom- everything ruined, no friends care about him, and accidentally has black slime drop on him

Well...all villians are kinda sympathetic

That fight already took place. Guess who won? Well lets just say, angel lucifer don't look so pretty any more :word:

I don't think the villians are too sympathetic. Their actions are not justified by their motivations. The villians may think they are, but they're wrong. That's why they're villians.

How is Venom sympathetic. Nobody cares about him because he is an *******.

I don't think Ock should have been a sympathetic character.
He should have been a heartless bastard.
