Animation Voltron: Legendary Defender

That's kind of the whole show to me. A bit too much comedy and banter for my tastes.

I've really enjoyed Season 1 and 2. I think they could toned down the banter a bit and spread out the Character development a tad more. But overall 1 and 2 were great IMO.

3 is solid/good...but it's just feels like its incomplete. ANd I think that's a product of them splitting it up.

Example

Episode 5 should not have been about Shiro/Cloniro. We should have gotten more focus on Lance with Red, Allura with Blue and Keith with Black. Because switching lions is a big deal...and they kinda just barely acknowledged it.

I am curious why they seem to have broken up Season 3 into a 7 and 6 episode "season" block. Guess they wanted some out before Oct. Though, I think Netflix is experimenting with breaking up animated shows into different blocks so that they can get stuff out quicker. See: Castlevania. It did seem like an odd narrative break.

Did enjoy the backstory. Answered the question of why Zarkon has lived so long. Though I don't think Lotor's motives are necessarily what Voltron team is thinking. Lotor is clearly Zarkon's and Haggar's son, so his age may be a bit hard to determine. And it would explain why he has other half breeds as his generals. Looking forward to them getting their dark Voltron, as the ship they made clearly looks like it becomes arms.

I can understand why people would want more time with them getting used to the different lions. I felt they gave it the proper weight it deserved, and enough time to give it the proper weight. It took me a minute to recognize why Lance's gun was red now, as we didn't see a proper handing off of the bayards. Do love Allura's is a whip. Her action scenes were great.

Shiro is clearly a trap though.

I do hope we get a new Robeast in Oct. I love that they are being sparing with them, but come on, I need a new monster.

They kind of did that with seven deadly sins as well. Called those middle filler episodes a second season when it was only 4 episodes.

The rest of season 3 might might be ready yet hence why they split them up. Animated shows like this usually have a long turnaround time. And Netflix doesn't really have a traditional broadcasting schedule either.

Just for example we got this Castlevania series, but season 1 was barely even a season. It was basically one prequel movie split up into four parts or "episodes."

[angerly waits for Little Witch Academia season 2]

Anyway, we know that they have a 78 episode order, witch is 6 traditional 13 episode seasons. If they want to split those up, go for it. I am enjoying it so far.

wow that was a quick binge session. i think this is the start of a new good thing-- not too much that it wipes out a weekend, not too short that its frustrating. and it gives us something new to look forward to during the year. could be the new format of how series would be dropping on streaming platforms.

but yes that was an AMAZING season 3. all great eps, but gotta say the history of the paladins gotta be my fave.

I'd really like this team and netflix to bring back Thundercats.

The finale was damn good! I love origin story episodes and this one did not disappoint.

Oh man, a Thundercats/Silverhawks and HeMan remakes by this team would be amazing.

Well this series is DreamWorks, and Warner Bros. still owns Thundercats. It would have to be through Warner Bros. Animation.

Now people like Joaquim dos Santos and Lauren Montgomery have done a lot of work at WB Animation and DC shows as well. But I think it's a bit premature to hope for new He-Man or Thundercats shows right now.

Mattel doesn't seem very keen on doing anything with He-Man right now other than the movie that's languished in development hell for 10 years. And I guess some of the comics as well by DC, which were decent. But I mean, they even gave the rights to the toyline to Super7 and shut down Matty Collector. Meaning Mattel doesn't even want to make the Masters of the Universe Classics anymore. They are content with Super7 doing it instead.

I really liked the origin story. It makes me wonder about how good the lions are at choosing a worthy pilot or why they can't deny the pilot if he or she has changed for the worse later on. Specifically why the Black Lion didn't deny Zarkon access when he clearly had ill intentions for using Voltron.

I really hope they bring Sven back but it might be strange with Shiro being back.

THIS WAS GREAT. I didn't know how I was gonna feel about the shorter season, but going in knowing it was half a season that I'd get to finish in two months and that I was able to do it all in one sitting was a really great experience for me.

I do still agree that it was rushed a bit. They really should have let Shiro dead for a while, bringing him back because he's popular really shorted the character development that naturally comes from lion changes and even having Keith all protective of a leader role that he's only had for two missions was silly, as was the whole trying to make his long journey seem incredibly long when not enough time passed for anyone to a length experience in anything. They didn't give themselves time to earn that and I HATE it when shows make their storylines nonsensical in order to serve characters because of popular outcry. Shiro hasn't even been gone long enough for any kind of decent clone conspiracy to form. It's just sloppy and rushed and it brought down the episode count of the adventures of Voltron from 6/7 to 5/7 in a set of episodes that already feel rushed if you look at them as a real season, which they were advertised as. Dumb, dumb, dumb move, and it's that kind of by committee knee jerk fanservice storytelling that prevents this from reaching Avatar/Young Justice levels of storytelling quality.

I did call it on the lion changes, and on how those changes push a greater character development than would have happened if people had stayed in their original positions. It's nice to be proven right on that, and unfortunately, on how not letting Shiro rest was a bad idea, not a part of anything that is well planned out, even further driven home by the shock of his return sort of stunted by the very cool Sven shoutout.

So cool. So close.

Lotor is that dude though, he was so awesome, and his general squad so much of a problem, and a great way to help fill him out and give the whole team a problem to deal with. I really enjoyed the way he's been set up, and his piloting skills and cavalier attitude just really makes him one of the great animated villains.

The flashback to the original pilots was a lot of fun too, interesting on the origin of Voltron and how they keep talking about alternate realities. I wonder if the series will go further in that direction. Could make for some very interesting adventures.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned that it seemed like Shiro was allowed to escape.

There's something going on with him that will pay off.

Yeah, [blackout] I don't think that's Shiro[/blackout]

The Black Lion pilot is cursed.

[BLACKOUT]I think Shiro is now connected to Zarkon. He's basically a Winter Soldier for the Empire. [/BLACKOUT]

Reminds me of Gundam Wing with Wing Zero and Epyon.

Oh, yeah, [blackout] Shiro is clearly teh evil clone/brainwashed/etc with 'Project Kuron'[/blackout], which would have been great as a one off or two-off, but it is highly unlikely that this subplot will be one that contributes to the continued growth of the series and characters in it. It is highly unlikely that it will be helpful/cool how *fast* Project Kuron was activated and apparently executed.

Well, let's see how the rest of the season goes.

Had totally forgotten about the premiere and just finished it this week. All in all I agree that it felt like what it was... The first half of a season that was split up. Good stuff though. Lotor shows lots of promise, and having one of his team be the same pilot that Keith had helped in a previous episode made it clear the creators have had a road map of where they want to go for some time. I think the "origin" of Voltron should have been a flash back story that was at least two episodes long but they filled in the back story well enough. Can't wait a few weeks to get more.

See, this is the characterization we should see more of in the proper show.

They've been releasing vlogs every Thursday it seems about every character.

Curious to see if Lance's will purely be comedy driven, given the subtext the show's giving about him being insecure/not being worthy enough to be a paladin.

3 episodes into the new season so far, loving it,was not ready for episode 2,just so many feels.

Finished the new eps. Shocked the Shiro's return didn't end up being something sinister.

I think this formation of Voltron paladins is best. Keith wasn't a good leader.

Lotor is gonna mess up everything to get through that gate.
