WandaVision WandaVision General Discussion Thread

Well from a marketing standpoint they want to stretch this out since it's nine episodes total.

Week 1 (Episodes 1&2) Jan 15
Week 2 (Episode 3) Jan 22
Week 3 (Episode 4) Jan 29
Week 4 (Episode 5) Feb 5
Week 5 (Episode 6) Feb 12
Week 6 (Episode 7) Feb 19
Week 7 (Episode 8) Feb 26
Week 8 (Episode 9) March 5

And then the following week March 12th is the debut of Falcon and The Winter Soldier. They basically have adopted The Mandalorian style of one Week release that gets coverage and keeps the views coming back for more. Unlike Netflix who dropped it all in one shot. I like Disney+ strategy because it makes it fun to speculate and dig deep into what's going on, plus for eagle eye watchers and comic book fans we see so much Easter eggs in the Episodes that delight and tease wanting more...

Actually it’s the 19th of March, when Falcon premieres.

I also do like the weekly releases. It’s like normal TV and the millennials should get used to it. We used to get one episode a week. Take LOST for example. We mostly got 1 episode a week (except the finals) to craft theories for the next episodes. I love that. I never binge series and watch the Netflix series 1 episode a eve inning, to keep the hype

To be fair I'm 32 and I technically considered a millennial lol. But I agree, I much rather have weekly releases. When Netflix first introduced the concept of dropping a season all at once, I loved it initially. But after several years, I sorta got tired of that model. As stated, I like the week to week speculation and discussions a show can have and you loose that with dropping it all at once. Plus with the way 2021 is looking, you essentially have new Marvel content almost every week.

I agree. Certain shows are only worth binge watching if each episode is good and manages to keep your attention. Their are a few shows on Netflix that have that appeal. For me Ozark is good but it drags on and on. Narcos season 1 is a must binge watch because each episode left you gasping.

When I get off of work I may just watch these first two episodes again!

I binged watch LOST (1 to 4 in 2008) and still remains one of my favorite shows. And I didn't watch season 5/6 in a weekly basis as well. I watched them after their respective finale.

I really hope, that that’s not the majority of the audience. I like that they took a high risk here. I hope that they’re not making every series like an action show like the Falcon & the Winter Soldier.

Is reaaaally hard to judge WandaVision after a couple of episodes. It hasn't even scratched the surface of what might be going on. I don't know if week-by-week episodes is the right strategy though. There's really nothing substantial in the first two episodes.
It's cute, it feels like the producers/designers/marketing/actors are having fun by doing this, but not much for everyone else. So far.

God I missed sharing theories, finding clues and discussing in general about those kind of stuff with my friends. Plus after all that mess in the world and all the trauma Wanda suffered, its really nice to see her having a good time, even if its propably a fake.

The show definitely appears to be on bit of a slow burn.
Slow burn is fine but I would question is this the format to tell the story in.

I'm honestly not talking from a stamping my feet point of view, I just didn't get that first episode. Like I understood what they were doing but it just came across as a gimmick that did nothing to establish the story.

The second episode was better and I'd say that's why they released them back to back, as they knew having them a week apart didn't work.

What an incredibly fun, cool show! First time I've been really intrigued by an MCU project in ages! Glad they finally realized Bettany and Olson are two of their strongest leads.

They also absolutely should be releasing them weekly. It is a better model that keeps shows in public consciousness longer. There's a reason Netflix shows drop out of any cultural relevance instantly and it isn't just their mediocrity.

Kathryn Hahn needs more respect on her name anyway.....while Bettany and Olsen are clearly having a ball it's Hahn's moments that kept me interested.

So it’s basically just Pleasantville, and that’s totally cool with me! I like when Marvel takes influence from other movies. I have to say Bettany and Olsen are perfectly cast and have wonderful chemistry together. So glad Olsen ditched the “Sokovian” accent.

I’m thinking Debra Jo Rupp is revealed as Agatha Harkness.

The jokes landed for the most part. Really impressed by how much they committed to the concept.

This is going to be a fun ride. It’s really comforting and nice to have Marvel Studios back, I’ve really missed them. It makes things feel a little more normal.

I don't understand all of the love for the show.

I like the nostalgia of the feel of the episodes, but it often goes too overboard on 50's sit-com as opposed to a 2021 Marvel show. I get it, but if I want to watch a My Three Sons episode, I will watch a My Three Sons episode. Get on with the plot already.

Other than the expectations of something happening at some point because it is Wanda/Vision/MCU-ish... the first two episodes gave me nothing to make me want to watch episode 3.

Plus, seven and a half minutes of credits? Really?
Yeah I kind of wish they involved the main plot a bit more in the 1st two episodes. We did see a Hydra watch commercial, Sword on the toy plane, some bee dude, and the voices Wanda is hearing. Main reason for watching is that nothing else is really one and it is a short series. If it was 12-18 eps I would probably skip unless it has major implications on an MCU movie plot.

Well weekly depends fiercely on the quality. Mandolorian dipped up and down in terms of quality week to week yet it was forgiven because they established the hook of Baby Yoda.

Wandavision did not establish a similar hook in spite of the good efforts of Bettany, Olsen and Hahn. I'm sure Episode 3 will be the hook but in a weekly format you really shouldn't be waiting that long. If it was regular TV they wouldn't have been given the goodwill to get away with it.

I like the 1 episode a week and I trust that the show will get more engaging by episode 4 to make the week long wait really worth it. I love the week long wait for The Boys when Amazon does it.

I liked binge watching Cobra Kai because it fits that style so I think it depends on the show.

I mean, no, it's a serialized story. It being allowed to take its time is the whole point of doing a show instead of a movie. The Mandalorian is literally pure, undiluted fan service, its narrative propulsion is making sure the audience is constantly given something cool the creators know they want. Wandavision is clearly trying to slowly build an atmosphere. Of course a normal network TV show wouldn't be allowed to do this, Network TV is a pretty terrible format for dramatic storytelling.

Any hiccups caused by it being released weekly are sort of irrelevant anyway (although, again, weekly is way more fun and probably a better marketing strategy overall for a variety of reasons) because it is a weekly show for exactly eight weeks. For the rest of time those nine episodes are a unit you can consume in a day.

I don't think it's a serialised story given how we know the runtime is going to fluctuate as the episodes progress.

I don't think the you can wait and watch later argument flies either as they're clearly trying to get maximum numbers and new subs each week, as opposed to a burst of people watching once after all episodes are up.

I dunno, I just think they took more for granted here than they should of.

Well we've seen these kinds of stories before..... the unfolding the of the enemy is going to be the fun of it. Their main objective, for now, was just to be mysterious. To intrigue us enough that we want to see more. And for me, I'm adequately curious. It's new content, after all, and I like the characters.. I have nothing to complain about.

I will say this: I feel much better about it after Episode 2. Episode 1 was yeah... a fun proof of concept, or idea, or whatever.. but I'll probably never watch it again, honestly. They were going for something different. Kudos, but I admit I didn't love it very much while watching it. The 2nd episode added enough interesting story points though, to keep me invested for now.

A few people I know who are more casuals said they wish they could binge it all, which I get, it's definitely going to be a mystery, but I'm happy to wait week to week and read all the theories.

Had a smile on my face all the way through both episodes. Being an old I grew up watching reruns of all the old classic b&w sitcoms, and seeing what were more or less “new episodes” of The Dick Van Dyke Show and Bewitched was just a blast. Everything was pitch perfect. I have no idea how it will play to those who don’t have those references or that particular nostalgia bone, but hey, it worked for me. Olsen and Bettany have great chemistry and the whole cast is obviously all-in. As for where it’s all going, I’m content to let it get there. Looking forward to next week!

The discussions are the best thing about shows like this being weekly IMO just like The Mandalorian Seasons 1 and 2 and The Boys: Season 2 and even something like Doom Patrol to a degree.

When there's alot to discuss and dissect I'm more than glad to wait for an episode a week, but with shows like Cobra Kai or Stranger Things I think those work alot better as binge watches, but maybe that's just me.
