WandaVision WandaVision General Discussion Thread

I also have to say, I was tired of hearing some people saying that only under FOX there would be more risk taking in Marvel projects.

I'm so happy with all the love and reception WandaVision is getting. I hope it only encourages them more and more.

Yeah, that is a lot of risk to be taking in your opening show. I’m really glad.

I will be surprised if we don't see Monica get her powers on this show when the 9 episode run ends.
That would be an awesome bonus to this show. Really hoping there is a chance of that.

I like the week by week release instead of all at once. More suspense.

I’m loving the show so far. A+ for both episodes. I grew up watching I Love Lucy, Bewitched, I Dream of Jeannie, The Brady Bunch, etc. so all the homages/references are right up my ally.
Yeah, some great nostalgia being invoked here. They’ve really executed it well too. The silly humour is really working for me. :hehe:

So far there’s been virtually no break from the format, it’s been seamless haha. These could pretty much be genuine sitcom episodes.
Except all the commercials feature the same random people we don't know. Which is interesting. I'm sure they'll turn out to be significant players in "the real world."

They also absolutely should be releasing them weekly. It is a better model that keeps shows in public consciousness longer. There's a reason Netflix shows drop out of any cultural relevance instantly and it isn't just their mediocrity.
I agree. The Netflix binge watch model takes all the fun and suspense out of new episodes. Also becomes a competition to see who can watch it all the fastest, lol.

People binge a TV show and forget about it two days later (Strangers Things S3, Umbrella Academy S2, etc.). Weekly episodes create hype, speculation, etc.

Slow burn is fine but I would question is this the format to tell the story in.

I'm honestly not talking from a stamping my feet point of view, I just didn't get that first episode. Like I understood what they were doing but it just came across as a gimmick that did nothing to establish the story.

The second episode was better and I'd say that's why they released them back to back, as they knew having them a week apart didn't work.

I think if it pays off in a knockdown drag out Marvel Comics spectacle, I think it will make all this buildup worth it. If it falters like Defenders, Punisher, or Iron Fist, Season 2 of Jessica Jones, it will be disappointing.

Yeah there is a bit of a gimmick at work here, but there's also a sense of progression with Wanda. I just get this terrible feeling that something awful has happened or is happening.

If every episode is a period, than they reached the 21th century (Modern Family, The Office mockumentary style) after 02/05/21. I doubt they had sitcom references for the years 2011-2020.
From there on, it’ll be the mentioned full MCU epic and maybe the episodes 7;8 & 9 will be longer.

Absolutely superb, from the moment I first head the music I felt like I was finally getting my marvel fix. The marvel era of television has truly begun and I’m having a wonderful time. More of this sort of thing

WandaVision is setting the bar high. I'm more curious for the next projects now.

Ms Marvel, especially. I'm hoping it's going to be a delightful, loving show.
Yeah, I’m desperate for that one to do well. It seems like we’re going to be getting serious variety with the shows, even more so than with the films. They could really strengthen the MCU and allow it to do many things that were never possible before and allow much more fleshing out of concepts and characters that don’t have enough time in the films.

Also excited to see how the Scarlet Witch is finally given the moniker the Scarlet Witch. One of the coolest names in comics but so far has been missing from all her film appearances.
I would like if they came up with a good story moment for that. Something better than the origin of Fury’s eyepatch lol.

Watched the first two episodes. Was great and there were some genuine laughs. It was a little unsettling and eerie having the odd moments when things became serious and it began to almost feel like a psychological horror when mixing the incongruity of that tone with the comedy.

I wouldn't have minded having a whole season that was completely a sitcom and being a really slow burn that only gets to what is actually happening a season or two later. Like if you took a show like I Love Lucy or Bewitched and let them play out as they were for their first two seasons and then later on down the line it emerged that there was something more sinister going on. But of course, those shows might've become so established by then that a change in tone would feel like it's up-ending it and could be disastrous for ratings.

I'm guessing there probably won't be a second season of WandaVision, or at least not in the same sitcom vein as the first season. It seems as if this is a one-and-done series as it will lead into Spider-Man 3 and the Multiverse of Madness.

Also put me down as another fan of the weekly format. I generally watch shows in this way anyway, even if they're on Netflix and like the time in between to discuss and speculate. I prefer not to binge, although I did watch Cobra Kai season 3 within the space of a week.

I'm really loving this. I was worried the sit-com format would end up being really unfunny and grating but it's working perfectly IMO. I'm actually invested in whatever fantasy world Wanda is creating or being created for her.

Lizzie Olsen looks stunning in whatever period they use, as does Katherine Hahn and Toneyah Parris by the looks of it. All the cast are on fire and seem really committed to the world.

I love how committed they are to the sitcom rules.

Me too, they aren't just parodying them, they're using them to tell a proper story. I also love how everything is just a little off kilter sometimes. Not just with the big moments like the colour splashes and glitching/rewinding but the ways you can tell everything is just a little too artificial and/or creepy double meanings and Wanda looks like she's going to break character but forces herself not to.

I'm also one that prefers the weekly format, even though I'm insanely curious about what's up. It builds my interest in the show and it's better for discussing and speculating with people on individual episodes if you don't have to pretend you didn't see episode 9 already.

I actually think Anges is Agatha Harkness AND Mephisto. I think they'll merge the two characters together like they did with The Mandarin and Aldrich Killen in IM3.

To be completely honest after thinking about it, I would've liked those first two episodes a lot more if they had been actually funny. I chuckled a couple of times, but I was mostly stone-faced. Admiring the effort but waiting for something to kick into gear.
