WandaVision WandaVision General Discussion Thread

To be completely honest after thinking about it, I would've liked those first two episodes a lot more if they had been actually funny. I chuckled a couple of times, but I was mostly stone-faced. Admiring the effort but waiting for something to kick into gear.

But do you not find them funny because you have humour from a more modern era compared to the type of humour that was typical of these types of shows back then? They seemed pretty much the same kind of humour you'd find in shows like Bewitched, which is different even from something like Friends in the 90s or other sitcoms from the 21st century.

I do like sitcoms, and I'm aware of the rhythm and style of the humour. Is not that it wasn't funny, it was charming and cute, but I didn't actually laugh at any point. Maybe that's enough? I'm curious as to where this is going.

I am impressed by how straight they're playing the old school sitcom plots. There's obviously a layer of knowing irony but there's a lack of the snarky, self-aware "Isn't this dumb??" shtick I would've expected from the MCU.
Agreed, it’s quite refreshing in that respect. I’m really enjoying the format and looking forward to seeing the transition to the next decade.

I don't really laugh at shows like Happy Days or some of these older shows now. Maybe I might've when I was younger. There are the odd few laughs here and there but I think everyone has progressed from those old shows now.

I'd still laugh at shows like Frasier though.

I feel that the closing credits could've been shorter with a theme as long as was typical for old sitcoms. These credits are at least 7 minutes long which could've allowed for more episode time instead.

I don't think the credits being shorter would make the episodes have more content. D+ shows clearly aren't going to have terribly significant run times in general. If anything the credits are to pad the run time a bit.

Yeah, is not like all shows must be 30 minutes and the credits are "robbing" us screentime from the episodes.

I actually think Anges is Agatha Harkness AND Mephisto. I think they'll merge the two characters together like they did with The Mandarin and Aldrich Killen in IM3.

I wonder if she's too obvious for Agatha? And it's going to be someone like Debra Jo Rupp?

I know what you mean. I don't find a lot of the 60s sitcoms as funny as they would have been at the time, even though I can see that they're well done and still watch them on repeats/streaming. I didn't laugh at the jokes but I appreciated that they were extremely appropriate to the era and style of the show(s). Pretty sure the boss comes to dinner and magic shenanigans ensue is the plot of several episodes of Bewitched for example.

Brilliant acting from everyone involved - ✔️
50s/60 sitcom atmosphere - ✔️
Mystery undertones - ✔️
Great chemistry between the two leads - ✔️

Personally, I thought the first 2 episodes were great. Even the first one, which some seem to find boring and/or inconsequential, when watched carefully, I think there are plenty of subtle hints to be found which point to what could be really happening.
It certainly got me hooked, and I can't wait to see how the rest of the series will play out (not to mention that it's the first MCU property we've gotten in 18 months which only adds up to the excitement :D).

Bewitched and I Dream of Jeannie. Also the theme music for episode 2 was a bit reminiscent of IDOJ.

I'm wondering for audiences who've never watched any of these old classic sitcoms how much they'd appreciate the show and each episode. They would just look at it as "in the style of some old sitcom" but not be able to point out homages to any in particular. Would these people find the episodes more boring?

Loved the first 2 episodes, this is really different from Marvel which I have wanted them to do for years, great acting and setting, loving all the characters and the central Mystery has me hooked already.

And Lizzie Olsen in that magician assistants outfit didn’t hurt either.

I've always had the hots for Hahn, but a 1960's Kathryn Hahn is my new kink.

When they eventually reach the 80s/90s era of sitcom I would love to see them do an homage to Married to With Children. Just imagining Vision as a bitter women’s shoe salesman and Wanda as a lazy housewife is hilarious

Wanda - “Hi Vision, did you miss me?”
Visión - “With every bullet so far”

Well that was certainly different...

I can't help but think that Vision won't make it out of this alive either. Wanda will be in Doctor Strange 2, Vision won't be.

In fact, unless I'm mistaken, Paul Bettany isn't scheduled to reprise his role in anything moving forward at the moment, so once reality kicks in I think Wanda will have a meltdown which will result in the multiverse of madness.

They HAVE TO make a Full House joke considering the Olsen of it all.

I loved how creepy the dinner table scene was. For as light hearted as everything else was, it felt really sinister.
That's when I felt everybody there was trapped in Wanda's reality. IIRC, the boss gets angry after asking "why are you here?", which I felt he was of blaming her. Then Wanda is triggered and he starts to choke. Then the wife's "Stop it" starts to sound like it is directed to Wanda. It felt they were hostages there. It was creepy.

That was my interpretation at least.

Imho He was asking Wanda thing, that could destroy her harmonic reality. So she made him choke and his wife was begging her to stop it.
