Warrior

One top critic wrote that Warrior is on par with Rocky, and that it should make grown men secretly weep as much as Marley & Me did.

Not a weeper, but Marley & Me was indeed moving. I'm incredibly pumped as well. I want to see the entire film.

I can't wait to see this. Glad reviews are positive.

so because every sports movie is 100% cliche we have to accept it? they can not do anything original ? i guess this is because Hardy is in a Nolan batman movie ?

I think you're a little full of it.

Hardy was one of the reasons why I wanted to see this film at first but I honestly thought this film was going to get panned by the critics (since MMA is a controversial sport and Never Back Down made a mockery of the sport).

Well if that's how you feel about sports films then don't watch them. Brad Pitt's Moneyball is getting rave reviews by critics too. Will you call that film a cliche? Yes. So why bother?

Definitely full of it. This has nothing to do with Batman. Tom Hardy is a phenomenal actor whether he's in Batman or not. Uncle Owen from the Star Wars prequels looks like he is going to give a great performance and I hope he hits it big soon. We love the underdog story, we love seeing characters overcome adversity and be a champion. That's why Rocky is so beloved, thats why The Fighter was great. Thats why this will be great.

this has everything to do with Batman and Nolan. noone on SHH talked about Hardy before he was cast in Inception. only after he was in a Nolan movie

Sure, Nolan helped put Hardy on most of our radars with Inception. That doesn't change the fact that he is an excellent up-and-coming actor, and people are excited to see more from him.

Not quite sure what you're getting at.

That's the idea.

I don't really get at what Dark B is trying to argue here. First, it had to do with the film being generic and predictable. Now, he's shifting to Tom Hardy's involvement with Nolan films, and stating the only reason why people want to see this film is because of TDKR. The guy is clearly talking out of his a**. :whatever:

Anyways, make sure to write a mini-review when you get from seeing it. I won't be able to catch the entire film until next week.

This.

Strangely enough, it was Star Trek Nemesis that alerted me of Tom Hardy. It was 2am, and I just happened to catch the movie. Perhaps fate. :awesome:

Bronson was what got my attention. I don't give a **** about Nolans Bat movies, personally i think TDK was crap apart from Joker.

I remember him from Minotaur...yes, the 2006 SyFy tv movie of the week. Granted it wasn't made for them...they just aired it ahead of it's Direct to DVD release. I only remember a cool explosion bit. The budget was 7 million.

first time I saw Hardy was Inception and then I saw Bronson was on instant queue on Netflix and that is where he completely won me over. I'm jacked for his Bane and he looks like he'll be amazing in this movie. Only 2 hours til I get to see it.

Saw this earlier tonight. Its fantastic, best movie of the year. Hardy is phenomenal and i wouldnt be surprised if hes nominated for an academy. I dont think enough is being said about Joel Edgerton. He was fantastic and i hope to see more of him in the future. Its nice to Nolte rockin it again and it has some great fight scenes. Definitely a must see. 9/10

As long as this doesn't get buried by the buzz of other films released later in the year, I can see Nolte getting a BSA nod. A lot of reviews seem to say that he's their best shot for an acting award.

Wholeheartedly agree.

Edgerton was equally as fantastic as Hardy and Nolte were. I think this film will finally push his career further. It's disappointing, however, that this film isn't getting enough attention, and that alot of people are writting it off as a ripoff to The Fighter. Ironically, Warrior was well into production way before The Fighter... so yeah. Bulls**t.

I've only seen 30 minutes from what I remember but the film is easily one of the year's best just based on what I witnessed.

Just as much as you guys seem to have been watching Hardy for a while (I didn't notice him 'til Bronson), I've been watching Joel Edgerton for what feels like ages now. When I finally got to see him live on stage last year in Streetcar Named Desire (in the role Marlon Brando made famous), I was just left thinking, "Good God, why hasn't this guy broken through in Hollywood yet?!" It's nice to see that it might finally be happening for him. As excited as I am to see Hardy in this, I think I'm even more excited for Edgerton, tbh, because honestly, it's about f*****g time.

To be fair, The Fighter has been in the works for like 5 years but it just never got off the ground because of the change in the financing, actors and directors but I do agree that the comparisons are really stupid. The only similarities are the exploration of the dynamic between brothers but other than that everything is different.

I think Edgerton is on his way there. He's equally fantastic. With Gatsby and that Kathryn Bigelow movie, I have a feeling that he'll be a force to be reckoned with in Hollywood.

I know they changed the lead about three times. I think Matt Damon was at one time involved but other than that I wasn't aware of it's troubles.

Agreed. I loved the film, but it pisses me off that people view Warrior as a clone to The Fighter. Oh well, I'm happy with a film representing the sport of MMA the right way (finally -- although Redbelt wasn't bad) and Tom Hardy shining.

Edgerton deserves alot of credit as well. The guy has paid his dues for awhile. Hopefully this film leads to bigger projects for Joel.

I liked the movie a lot. I'm a huge MMA fan and I was happy to see a movie featuring MMA that wasn't complete ****.

I hope it does because I loved him in this. I know both Hardy and Nolte are the big ones being talked for awards but Joel deserves just as much

I loved this film. I'll put my short review in spoiler tags

I loved the character development for both brothers. Before their fight I found it hard to choose one to root for. Both of them were really easy to relate to. Nolte really blew me away; he and Hardy had great chemistry. The scene where Nolte broke his sobriety hit a hard note with me, made me tear up because it felt real. Edgerton was a great underdog. His best fight was with Koba. I have to give this film to Hardy though, the last fight where he just wouldn't give up.... He gave Tommy that Marine Corps spirit that he needed. The ending got me good. Hardy wouldn't give up and both brothers were fighting for more than just money. You could feel their emotions in each punch. When brendon helped tommy out of the octagon..... That got me. 9.5/10

The reason people keep saying this is a ripoff of The Fighter is because of the trailer. Its being sold as an underdog movie, with the same uplifting music playing throughout. I know its more than that but that's just what the GA sees. Coming less than a year after The Fighter, its hard not to see the similarities. People seeing this will think either it looks like The Fighter, that was a good movie so this will be a good movie. Or this is such a rip off why would I see the same movie again.

I really want to see this movie, largely because both Edgerton and Hardy are in it. But alas, the movie does not have a release date here in Sweden yet. :csad:
