No, no double standard at all. My contention all along is that SR showed Superman out of character. If it were a completely new and different character in the film then it could have been interesing. It doesn't mean that I wouldn't have problems with it, but my contention is that the story was wrong for Superman. THe problems given to Superman in SR are not problems that fit with the Superman character. C'mon, Superman not saying good bye to the woman he loves (and with whom he's sexually involved) before leaving on an extended space journey? He knows it's wrong in the movie and he STILL does it. That's just not a problem Superman would have. It may be a difficult thing to do, but he would do it. His problem would be how he overcame his fear and difficulty in telling her goodbye, but he would tell her goodbye his problem would not be the fact that he DIDN"T say goodbye. The problems SUperman is shown havng in SR are not the problems Superman should have b/c he would not act in such a manner to get himself into that position. COnversely, I can see how a character would act like that and get into those type of problems. However, that is the thing, it is a different character, NOT Superman.
So a new character that had that type of story could be interesting. But SUperman is NOT that character. SR portrays a Superman-like character but NOT Superman.
