I can't remember exactly, but wasn't Spidey 3 confrimed for 2007 before Spidey 2 was released?

If so, I wonder what the hold-up is for Spidey 4. I suspect that Spidey 3 has the worst budget/box-office ratio of the 3 films.

EDIT: Oops, can a mod change the title please to Spider-man 3?

lol did u jus say u expect spider-man 3 had the wors box office ratio ?
hahaha..

it MADE a world record, as most gorssed in its opening than any film in motion picture history.

Actually, Spider-Man 4 has already been confirmed by the studio. It's Raimi and company that are not yet confirmed for returning.

I mean, with as much money as SM3 has made, there is no possible way that Sony will not make another one.

That is correct, but the total box office might fall quite short of the first 2 films.

You're right, drmick:

SM1: $821 million
SM2: $783 million
SM3: $635 million (as of May 17, 2007)

Wizard Magazine says David Koepp is currently in talks with Columbia Pictures to pen the Spider-Man 4 script...

Well, it's a given that the domestic gross will fall short. The total WW gross could actually beat the other two films.

What's your point?

Spidey 4, 5, and 6 have already been confirmed....

Indeed, but by June 2004 Spidey 3 had a release date of May 2007, and already Raimi and co were charging full steam ahead with the plot (which at that time had Sandman and Vulture).

If a release date of 2010 is muted, what would be the latest they could appoint a creative team?

Well Spiderman 2 left with such a cliffhanger, per say, that SM3 was basically a given plus the cast was still obligated under contract. There's no 'there must be a SM4' vibe left over from the story in SM3, so it wouldn't matter whether they made another one or not, the story arc has been concluded.

I think with everything up in the air, as far as where to take the story, the cast and crew, etc, Sony has to take a step back and re-evalutae things before they publicly announce SM4.

Yeah and Raimi said he wanted to take a break.

But he's also said he wants to do SM4. Several times. And then some.

And he's linked with the Hobbit and the Shadow. If he were to do both and THEN Spidey 4, you're probably looking at a release date of 2013 at the earliest.

If you think that sounds ridicilous bear in mind Toy Story 3 (potentially the best ever 2nd sequel of all time) is down for 2010.

Going along with the finished story arch thing here. The three movies did infact finish an arch. Pete falls inlove with MJ but can't tell her, finally tells her how he feels after rescuing for yet a second (third if you count the mugging) time, finally gets her, loses her, and fights to get her back. And at the end of three they forgive eachother and their arch is finished. So now there's a whole new arch that needs to be thought up to span over the next three films.
