Watchmen - DC Animated Movie

Big groan regarding these two things. They have already done so much with Watchmen and various Multiverse things. Only reason to check these things out would be if they actually spend money on them, instead of making them these saturday morning cartoons mixed with motion comics and swearing like they have been doing the last few years.

Just found this tweet from the scooper who revealed Crisis was coming as an animated trilogy two years ago. Supposedly this is to be two films.

Fingers crossed this is true. Can’t see them cramming 12 issues of stuff into just one movie.

6 issues into 70-80 minutes still feels pretty waste of time.

Edit: Although while I loved the '09 film one of its big issues was having so many flashbacks back to back early on, cutting some or at least some (probably more chronological) rearranging would probably be necessary for any further adaptation.

I have a feeling the animation might be in the same style as the recent Batman/Superman: Battle of the Super Sons and Babylon 5: The Road Home.

Not to double post, but did this get canceled or what? I haven't seen anything since the announcement.

It's probably due out Fall of this year. The marketing for the DTV's is anemic these days... you won't hear anything until they drop a ''teaser'' for the trailer on their own instagram.

They don't even seem to be doing the usual con premieres anymore.

I’m getting the feeling with each Crisis movie being released three months apart, we should see the film out by October.

Wouldn’t be surprised if we got more info by July/August.

Take it with some salt, as I have no idea how reliable this site is, but I just stumbled upon Blu-Ray.com, and they have the film listed as Watchmen Chapter 1 with a tentative release date of August 13.

Then again, WB Animation doesn’t really put much marketing into their films anymore.

Yeah, usually we only hear about the next movie by the time the current one is premiering.

I miss the old days of buying the movie on dvd/blu ray and getting a sneak peak of the next feature film. I know, I'm old... but it is what it is lol.

If that release date is correct, I can see a trailer/reveal of the voice cast by mid-June.

The trailers for each Crisis film weren’t released until two months before release.

I just hope they put effort into this. Tomorrowverse has felt very bare minimum effort with it's designs, animation, scores, etc. Just watched Crisis Part 2, it just felt so lifeless to me.

CGI, huh? Was hoping for 2D and match Gibbons’ art, but I will still wait to see how it looks. Still bums me out, though. :csad:

I know we should wait for footage, but hearing about the animation has me nervous.

Yeah, that description sounds like my worst case scenario for the animation style. Man, what a bummer. Hoping it looks better than how it's being described...

I was really hoping they put some effort into this, trying to mimic Dave Gibbons art style. Maybe they did, idk. We will see.

I would have gone the X-Men 97 route if they wanted to utilize CG and 2D animation. That would have been a good option.

I’ll wait til a trailer comes out.

Yeah, not digging that animation style. I'll still try and watch it.

Damn, I really feel like I'm seeing Snyder's film again ! :whoops:
Of course it's expected, as both project are aiming for a relatively faithful adaptation, at least when it comes to the look... But I don't know.
Even if I'm not a big fan of it, I recognize this CGI rendering isn't bad in itself. But damn, it would have been so much cooler to see something truly in the "retro" spirit of the original comic.
Ironically, the controversial "Archer"-style visuals of recent DC Animation productions would have made sense here (but it still would have had to be transformed into something sexier imo, perhaps by incorporating the comics' gorgeous color palette?).

Anyway, not too thrilled by this new adaptation, I was expecting something else but it looks honestly done so I'll watch it.
