Though I would be interested in seeing a Cristo story that actually keeps the more somber ending.

I've seen a half dozen adaptions of the story....I won't be in any hurry to see a new "modern" one. Maybe they'll make him a high school kid who sparkles when he is imprisoned.....and somehow manages to stay a teenager to the end......

I would agree. If you're not going to keep it set in the time of the novel, why bother?

Just simply make your own revenge story that is original.
No need to use the Count name at all.

Ugh, with adaptions like this Id rather they keep it in the appropriate period or set it in the future in a scifi setting. Setting it in modern day is just boring and it will be just another revenge tale.

They should set it in the corporate business world like Hamlet with Ethan Hawk. Since that was such a great idea.

Call it The CEO of Monte Cristo, Inc.
