I didn't watch the VMAs, but hearing other people talk about it and Miley Cyrus makes me wish Lady Gaga would make a huge comeback. It's like she's the Madonna classic and Miley is Madonna now.

Lady Gaga wasn't even that bad, her actions had artistic stuff behind it, Miley's just being an attention seeker

Gaga is talented. vocally and instrumentally. i wouldn't mind a new album from her in the next year one bit

Sorry, C. Lee. that was in poor taste and wasn't meant to be offensive. Just our worlds twisted terminology.

That being said, the hashtag is

and I hate to say it because I hate her... Lady Gaga is extremely talented... just weird as **** and Miley Cyrus is trying to one up her.

But does this mean this thread will open 13th place on opening weekend. :funny:

The fact that movie bombed so hard makes myself and all of my friends in the underground dance scene so filled with joy

i don't think miley's trying to be anything in regards to Gaga, just trying to be a mess of her own making lol
i feel like she's doing all this stuff to make sure everyone knows she's "grown up" and not the little disney girl anymore. and honestly i think most of us don't care. if you're going to act, be in movies, sing, put an album out, just stop doing all this junk for attention.

as for Gaga, i know the theatrics are part of what jettisoned her to stardom, which sucks, because she's a better musician than most out there, but i prefer to listen to her over watching her if that makes sense.

for instance, Speechless is a great song. i can't figure out why it wasn't a bigger hit. it'd be a top 10 for sure probably if someone else did it

As one of my hero's (Dave Grohl) say's, music isn't a competition.
http://loudwire.com/dave-grohl-blasts-tv-singing-competitions/

i love watching the voice. there's so many people with talent out there and i love to see them all show and work on their craft.
the thing i hated about american idol was how they'd show all the fake auditions people did to be on tv. all i could ever think was what talents we weren't able to see because of them showing the idiots.

now i don't really like the competition part and like grohl said, telling people they're not good enough. but those shows have paved the way for a lot of people to break through so while there is bad, there is also good.

I was just talking about the ridiculous theatrics where they beg for attention. Kanye does the same thing.

God I wish it was like to good ol days. It's pretty easy to gain a bit of fame by auditioning on the voice compared to how musicians used to gain fame. Back in the day, musicians used to travel around in vans, living off loose change, travelling around the country playing gigs, it was tough but it was worth it because in the end, if they tried hard enough they would succeed.

I'm still trying to grasp how a television station that calls itself 'Music Television' puts on award shows for movies and music, when they don't show movies or music.

some people still do that. but with the internet and social media, some people are able to get famous quicker

ie: colbie caillat was like the #1 myspace musician way back when, and that's pretty much what springboarded Taylor Swift's career too

mtv still produces movies

Sounds like somebody isn't awake from 2-5am. Which as we all know is prime music video time

Has anyone gained any actual fame by auditioning for The Voice? :oldrazz:

I mean, I don't watch any of those shows, but while I could probably name at least 5 former American Idol contestants off the top of my head, I can't name a single person who was on the Voice other than the judges, lol.

ive actually worked for a few while they were on tour with other artists, like Pope (twice), Gwen Sebastian. the country artists seem to have more success or at least show up on the radio more

So you guys hate EDM?

I was raised on Techno aka electronic dance music. The term now describes this big room, generic pop sounding house music. They hijacked the acronym and now it has a negative connotation with most DJ's in the thick of it. Real dance music is born in the underground with the DJ's that are supporting the local scene. Most of these big time DJ's that get paid millions of dollars a year actually get their tracks ghost produced for them by guys in the underground looking to make a quick buck. Very few of us live exclusively on what we love much like every other musician in the world and we spend countless hours as well as our own money making sure we have the newest + hottest tracks to drop.

So to answer your question: No, I love dance music of almost every genre

Are you familiar with this video CC?

And for the record I freaking hate country music with a passion. It is literally the only music I will tell someone to turn off if I am around it. It's garbage

yes i'm aware of the video

you may think it's garbage but i know many who disagree. as a dj i'm quite surprised you've turned your back on a complete genre of music.

lyrically, country music has some of the best songs out there.
edit: not to mention some of the best vocalists in the biz.

On the subject of social media/ technology, I hate how before I was born, in the rock crowds, no one had there phones in the air recording and the barriers were closer to the stage, some fans even went on stage sometimes.
Each year the barrier between the stage and fans is extended
and each year more and more phones in the air flood the audience, almost ruining the experience.
