after batman got his arkham asylum,spider-man got web of shadows and shattered dimensions which i enjoyed thoroughly,
surely its about time for a good superman game.
not some cheap shot where he is depowerd for whatever reason...but maybe place him against all his villains and darkseid being the main bad guy and be a true slug fest with all supermans powers involved.
surely doing this cannot be too great a task.
the man deserves the game to match the hero!

Ps superman is my favourite superhero if he were a marvel character i probably would ever bother with DC at all..

Yeah it's about time for another Superman game, but for some reason they can never get it right. I will say this, Batman had a somewhat better run with videogames as opposed to Superman. I played a little bit of Superman Returns and grew bored with it almost immediately.

I imagine it's hard to build a game around Superman since he's such a cheap character. For all intents and purposes he's essentially invincible.

This.

I felt the terrible Superman Returns had a good idea with the city having a life bar instead of Supes, but defending the city got annoying.

I agree with the OP tho, we deff need a great Superman title.

Factor 5's Superman showed promise, although I have a feeling that the action was going to be heavily scripted and QTE-driven, rather than being truly interactive.

If nothing else, it looked very visually cool!

Factor 5's Superman game being canceled was the worst thing to happen video games.

Factor 5's Superman game had alot of potential, I wish another studio could have picked up where they left off and completed the game. Superman Returns got extremely tedious, I liked the city having a lifebar and all, but there was just so much other stuff that was wrong with the game

a new great Superman game? They need a first one to begin with. The closest thing to a decent Superman game was the Death and Return of Superman for the SNES and thats bc it was more of a classic beat-em-up

I actually think the biggest challenge is flight. Being invincible is a copout bc they can always work it into the story to weaken him. For example MK explained him being vulnerable to magic. I dont see why soemthing similar cant be utilized in a solo game. I think one of the hardest things to implement is him flying and thats so integral to how he controls. Without decent flight to begin with, the game is automatically doomed. Once a developer is able to master that, then I think a Superman game has a shot at actually being good.

But hey, I guess they could always try and adapt Smallville into a videogame bc we know flight isnt an issue there:cwink:

I agree, his flight seems like the hardest thing to tackle. IMO it would be fun to swoop in and snatch up enemies and what not. They should have some sort of focus feature to enable him to slow down enabling you to target someone while flying at high speeds

I think thats really lame tho. Why let me play as Superman if he's just going to be weak?

They can make you feel powerful and still have challenge. It all depends on what they want to use the character for. Just as Arkham Asylum gave Batman his own unique gameplay formula rather than aping another game and applying Batman to it, Superman needs to re-think how the Superhero game concept works specificially for Superman, rather than just trying to be Spider-Man except you fly instead of web sling.

Then find another character. The fact that Superman is Superman is one of his largest draws.
they have, hence why we've gotten games based around Batman, Spiderman, Hulk, Wolverine, etc...

The only fun Superman game I played so far is the arcade game by Taito
Spider-Man got Web of Shadows and Shattered Dimensions which i enjoyed thoroughly
Web of Shadows is the one Spider-Man game by Activision I couldn't digest, always makes my face cringe

What about Batman?

This is the best thing about him, he should be invincible without cheats, and to make the game more fun and challenging cheats should be used to make some missions with time limits, make Superman vulnerable, etc...
Flying control is going to be slightly challenging

DareDevil needs an awesome game of his own
Im not big on Daredevil but he seems like someone that would be easy to implement into a videogame. Its not like he has complex powers that would make for a difficult control scheme.

Imagine if Ubisoft (Montreal) made a Daredevil game.

Recreate Hell's Kitchen and have it just like Assassin's Creed but with more stealth elements. The only issue with it would be the fact Daredevil can't see, It wouldn't be great if we could see normally, maybe if the game was all in 'Eagle Vision' it would get a bit boring.

Having Superman be invincible shouldn't be a set back. As you guys have said the story can sort out his invincibility if need be.

It wouldn't be a stretch to have Lex Luthor get the majority of Superman's enemies and enhance them with Kryptonite. That way for boss battles and the occasional thug mission you will be weakened by Kryptonite however for the free roam aspect the majority you are at full strength. I would prefer to play a Superman game where saving civilians from helicopter crashes, falling debris, fires, speeding trains, cars, robberies etc were more at the forefront of gameplay than fighting people.

he's one of the few characters I follow their series very faithfully

As long as they don't make the mistake of his comic book mission in MUA where everything is black, I'm satisfied

the only good Superman was the Death & Return of Superman that came out on the SNES

it was pretty cool how you played as the different types of Supermen in that game, and the arcade style action was fun

anyone remember that planned Flash game from awhile back? the gameplay footage looked great. too bad it got cancelled though :csad: if anything, i think Flash deserves a game more so than Superman

There is a game based on that story? Never heard of it
I'm a loyal member in Genesis club anyways, didn't work on spending money on a Nintendo system after the NES

It came out on the Genesis. It was actually a decent game. You got to play as the various Supermen and they all had their own animations and abilities. I thought it was fun

Yes, it did :csad:

I don't know if I'd say he deserves one more than Superman but I'd love to see someone at least try. Maybe if the movie takes off we may get a decent game.

In regards to Superman though, I really don't get the invincibility argument. It never stopped him from having challenging fights in the comics or animated series.

In my opinion if they let say Dinni and Timm get a crack at the story and build the game around threats that can actually challenge the character and environments that can make use of his abilities and don't stick him in a generic city with little interaction and have him rescuing kittens a good game is definitely possible.

Oh, and I enjoyed playing as Sups in the Justice League Heroes game.

that superman game that got cancelled looked incredible :(
