So who wants to take a guess as to which one of the most populated cities in the world is going to probably be utterly annihilated by a natural disaster sometime in the next few decades because it sits in the center of pretty much every single possible natural disaster zone there is?

Did you guess Dhaka Bangladesh? Me neither. Bangladesh has a population of 160 million people, has the most densely populated city in the world and annually has monsoons, cyclones, tornadoes, with severe threats of earthquakes and tsunamis. As for earthquakes, a 6.0 is fairly low on the scale which classifies damage as "Slight damage to buildings and other structures" but if a 6.0 hit Dhaka? It could obliterate up to 70% of the entire city, taking down 80-90% of the concrete structures due to how poorly made and maintained they are.

Man Accused of Leaving Racist Receipt Sues Waitress and Red Lobster

amsgu0jnd9nji8hg0v6m.jpg

Last year, a man named Devin Barnes in Franklin, Tennessee was accused of leaving a racial slur on his Red Lobster receipt in lieu of a tip. He has now filed a $1 million lawsuit against both the waitress who received the receipt and Red Lobster.

After Toni Christina Jenkins posted the receipt online last September, the Internet quickly assembled in support of the Red Lobster waitress, with coverage of her story and an online fundraiser called "Tips for Toni" that raised over $10,000. Now Barnes, who claims he never wrote the slur in the first place, is suing both Jenkins and Red Lobster for slandering his name and causing damage to his reputation.

Red Lobster released a statement after learning about the lawsuit:

"As we shared before, it is against our policy to post guest information online. Our standard procedure is to suspend the employee involved with pay while we determine what happened. After the completion of a full investigation into this matter, Miss Jenkins returned to work. As we also shared, we were disgusted by the language used on this guest check as it has no place in our restaurant or anywhere else."

Barnes' mother, Sallyann, told WCBD that her son's reputation has been irreparably harmed, saying, "It's still all over the Internet. It is still affecting his life and all of our lives."

Seems like a hard case to prove but I guess he could have a handwriting expert prove he didn't write it if that is the case. But the internet and people in general these days have a pretty short attention span so I doubt this affecting his life in some horrible way right now

You did read the other thread with a person committing suicide over harassment right? People tend to take internet vigilantism to an extreme for any reason these days. I wouldn't be surprised if he's been getting death threats and hundreds of pizzas an hour delivered.

Miley Cyrus Takes Emergency Restraining Order on Crazed Fan

h4nufnwvipl2xjx8la42.jpg

Miley Cyrus obtained a temporary restraining order on Friday against an Arizona man who believed that the singer was speaking to him through the radio. His name is Mr. Wrecking Ball, JK.

According to the AP, the man, actually named Devon Meek, 24, was detained by the LAPD's Threat Management Unit on May 16 outside of a property he believed to be Cyrus's. Meek, who believes that Cyrus communicates with him through her songs, was placed in custody at a mental health facility where he still resides. Detective Rosibel Smith wrote in a sworn statement that Meek said that they should shoot him in the head if he couldn't meet Cyrus.

Smith wrote that a police officer who interviewed Meek informed him "that Mr. Meek stated that when he is released from the hospital, he will not stop seeking Ms. Cyrus and that he will continue to go to Ms. Cyrus' residence until Ms. Cyrus accepts him or he dies."

A hearing to extend the restraining order for three years is scheduled for June 16.

I can't imagine a dumber pop star to hear secret messages in their songs.

Did he come in like a wrecking ball? *gets booed*

I'm pretty sure those are two night and day situations.

I'll never in my life grasp how some people become obsessive over celebrities to the point of stalking them with the risk of being put to prison and live a miserable life.
Truly pathetic.

I'll never understand the celebrity fascination people have anyway.

I'm pretty sure those are two night and day situations.

I've read about some of the crazy crap people do because they believe someone was wronged. They may be different situations but I wouldn't be surprised if people took it way too far.

That's true, and it's beyond sad.

Mudslide 4 Miles Long, 2 Miles Wide, 250 Ft Deep Hits Western Colorado

zoeaix3heum34vrcu02o.png

An enormous mudslide that's reported to be 4 miles long, 2 miles wide, and around 250 feet deep occurred Sunday night in Mesa County, Colorado, a few dozen miles to the east of Grand Junction. As of 10PM MDT, 3 people were unaccounted for.

The incredibly large mudslide occurred somewhere in the area I've circled on the map above, east of the small town of Collbran, Colorado. Collbran sits at an elevation of ~6,000 feet at the base of a row of mountains that peak around 10,000 feet.

Heavy rain on the order of about one inch fell around the site of the mudslide on Sunday.

If the reports are accurate, the slide is much larger than the one that occurred in Washington back in March of this year. The Oso mudslide, which killed 41 people, was a quarter of a mile long and eight-tenths of a mile wide.

Collbran is a town of 700 people located on the western side of Colorado, about 40 miles east of Grand Junction.

99-Year-Old Woman Finally Gets College Degree After Settling $5 Charge

swesavfnsglqcdlyyou2.jpg

Jessie White, a 99-year-old woman from Belfast, Maine, was finally granted her college degree from Bangor's Beal College after the college's president stepped up and paid the $5 transcript fee she'd not been able to afford in 1939.

A friend of White's, after hearing about the $5 debt that had prevented White from graduating, notified Beal College and president Allen Stehle. Stehle then paid the fee himself and set up a personal graduation ceremony for White's family and friends. White received a diploma in bookkeeping and stenography.

"Never give up learning. They say when you give up learning you grow old," she said, according to ABC News. "So I don't intend to give up learning."

Crazy that just $5 kept her from having a degree all these years

Man Suffers Brain Hemorrhage After Three-Day Gaming Marathon

A young man in China's Hunan province was sent to the hospital last week in what looked like another case of a sudden death in an internet cafe. Luckily, the man is still alive.

According to a report by Voice of China, 26 year-old Xiao Qiang collapsed at his seat in the internet cafe after a three-day gaming session. That's right, three days and three nights spent playing games at an internet cafe.

Xiao Qiang was reportedly rushed to the nearby Hunan Brain Hospital in Changsha. There, doctors declared that Xiao Qiang had suffered a brain hemorrhage.

Voice of China reports that Xiao Qiang is an average office worker and online gamer. According to VoC, the man, who enjoys eating fried chicken and drinking carbonated drinks, weighs in at around 100 kilograms—a possible risk factor, according to the doctors at the hospital.

Xiao Qiang now suffers from partial paralysis. Resident supervising doctor Xiong Zhiwei says that he can recover most motor function, but will have impaired speech and some mental difficulties.

No wonder they banned console for so long over there, they game out hardcore

It's a stereotype that gets some well publicized recognition in Asia that they're hardcore gamers. This is at least the fifth or sixth time I've read about someone in Asia having an actual stroke or heart attack from excessive game playing.

Deer Falls From Sky and Crashes Into Mom's Car

lry5xu3rptzyumd0e4qe.jpg

A woman suffered minor injuries after a deer fell from an overpass on a Chicago highway, crashing through her windshield and nearly causing her to wreck with her four kids in the car. No one was seriously injured in the crash, though the mother did sustain a minor shoulder wound.

Heidi Conner and her kids were driving back from an eight-hour road trip when an adult female deer fell from the overpass, hitting Conner's car while she was driving 70 mph. She was able to maneuver across three lanes of traffic with a deer hanging out of her windshield and safely wait for police.

"If it had been one inch to the left, it would have been dead center. I wouldn't have been able to control the car. And one inch to the right, it would have killed my son," she told CBS Chicago.

It's still unclear if the deer was scared by cars on the overpass or if it decided to take it's own life. "Never in my career have I seen anything like this," Illinois Police State Trooper Justin Novarro said.

http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2014/05...lls-from-overpass-crashes-through-windshield/

Truly a bizarre happening. That would be one of the last things I would think to worry about while driving. Glad nobody got seriously injured though

"if it decided to take its own life?" is suicide really the likely cause? did the deer scream YOLO as it jumped?

Macaulay Culkin Storms Off Stage After Drunk Fans Interrupt Kazoo Solo

bn6c1dkxyhkoxguao3qb.png

Important news out of England: Sunday night, Macaulay Culkin and his band, the Pizza Underground, reportedly stormed off stage after unruly fans pelted the group with beer. The worst part? Culkin was about to play a kazoo solo.

Pre-beer throwing, the show sounded, uh, interesting.

"Hello Cleveland," Culkin greeted the crowd in Nottingham, according to the Nottingham Post. "How are you kids doing? Do you like pizza? Do you like songs about pizza? Good, cus that's literally all we do."

Culkin then handed out 14-inch pizzas to the front row, urging them to, "Take a bite and pass it on."

The good times, however, were short-lived. Concert-goers began throwing beer soon after the show started. "Why are you throwing those?" Culkin asked. "I'd rather drink them!"

It only got worse for the Home Alone star. 15 minutes later, a full beer hit him, just as he was about to start his kazoo solo. "That's the end of the show. Goodnight," he told the crowd, before grabbing his bandmates and walking off stage.

At least one audience member told the Nottingham Post he was relieved.

"It just sounds awful," he said. "I can't believe he is doing this. Why bother? It must go down well in America or something."

No word if the band was selling the now-famous Ryan Gosling t-shirts.

Chicago Coffee Expert Crushed to Death by Falling Coffee Machine

f6qlvjjzgfmzu6xpd3ar.jpg

Jim Karr, a Chicago coffee expert who worked at Intelligenstia Coffee and later founded a coffee start-up, died Saturday afternoon after the large coffee machine he was setting up fell on top of him.

From DNA Info Chicago:

Jim Karr was setting up a large coffee machine in the 300 block of East Jackson Drive in Grant Park when he lost his balance about 4:25 p.m., police said. Karr grabbed the machine to steady himself, but it fell on top of him.

Karr, of the 1900 block of West Henderson Street, was injured in his head and chest and taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 4:56 p.m. Saturday, authorities said.
Karr, 48, was a respected member of the Chicago's coffee community. He worked for several years as the director of brewing technology at Intelligenstia Coffee in Chicago; in August 2012, he left Intelligenstia to found SteamVolt, "a progressive technical service agent offering a new approach and methods to the unique and nuanced needs of the craft coffee industry."

Dark Matter Coffee, which announced the death on their Facebook page, described Karr as "an inspiration."

He believed in and supported our views on business and coffee and constantly ideated with me new ways for us to do both better. Jim will be missed dearly, but his work will be forever be lived out by the people he has touched in life.

R.I.P. Manuel Uribe, World's Heaviest Man, at 48

uixgxzulqzzg0mxerazr.jpg

Manuel "Meme" Uribe, Guinness record holder for "world's heaviest man," passed away Monday at a hospital in Monterrey, Mexico, the Nuevo Leon health department has confirmed. He was 48.

When he was measured for the world record, in 2006, Uribe weighed 1,230 pounds. At the time of his death, he hadn't left his bed since 2002. At his 2008 wedding to Claudia Solis, Uribe arrived via flat-bed truck, bed and all.

[YT]VJWPFHE0nQY[/YT]

As a younger man, he was heavy, but nowhere near record-breaking, at 280 pounds. He worked as an electronics repairman, and blamed his mostly sedentary lifestyle for his sudden weight gain. His diet at the time, he said, was a typical Mexican one: Beans, rice, tortillas, fries, burgers, and pizza.

After setting the world record, he vowed to do everything he could to lose it again, according to Guinness World Records editor-in-chief Craig Glenday. Uribe used his fame to get on reality TV shows and inspire other obese people as he tried to lose weight. He eventually reduced his weight to 867 pounds.

Although the cause of his death hasn't been confirmed, Uribe had recently been transported to a hospital with an abnormal heartbeat.

His record remains unchallenged.

At least he was trying to lose the weight and inspiring others to do the same. I can't imagine being stuck in my room for years at a time, that would drive me crazy

Nobody Wants To Host The 2022 Olympics

zorey07x73fuzhrjgvhw.jpg

The next Olympics to be awarded, a little more than a year from now, will be the 2022 Winter Games. Rather than going to the strongest bid, the games may end up going to the last city standing—a long list of potential hosts have given up on their Olympic dreams because the whole thing is one huge, useless waste of money.

Yesterday, Krakow, Poland, officially withdrew its bid for the games, a day after a citywide referendum where 70 percent of voters came out against hosting the Olympics. "Krakow is closing its efforts to be the host of the 2022 Winter Games due to the low support for the idea among the residents," said mayor Jacek Majchrowski.

In January, another of the six original finalists pulled out, when Stockholm, Sweden's ruling political party declined to fund the games. They cited the pointlessness of paying hundreds of millions for facilities that would be used for two weeks and then rarely again. "Arranging a Winter Olympics would mean a big investment in new sports facilities, for example for the bobsleigh and luge," the Moderate party said in a statement. "There isn't any need for that type of that kind of facility after an Olympics."

In November, voters in Munich, Germany, rejected a proposed Olympic bid. "The vote is not a signal against the sport," said one lawmaker, "but against the non-transparency and the greed for profit of the IOC."

Last March, a joint bid from Davos/St. Moritz, Switzerland, fell apart after being rejected by a public referendum.

Of the four remaining finalists, two are in rough shape. The Oslo, Norway, bid is falling apart. It was supported by a razor-thin margin in a September referendum, but public opposition has only grown since then. And on Sunday, the junior member of the government coalition voted against funding any Olympics. For them to go on, it would require an unprecedented alliance between the ruling Conservatives and the opposition Labour party.

The Lviv, Ukraine, bid seems dead in the water with the turmoil and war in the country. "Currently our dream is on hold," said the bid's chief.

There are only two healthy bids: Almaty, Kazakhstan, and Beijing, China. One's an oil-rich state ruled by a president-for-life, and the other's, well, China. That's no coincidence. With the Sochi games raising the bar to an absurd $51 billion, hosting the Olympics no longer looks like a winning proposition. The failed and aborted 2022 candidacies all have one thing in common: When actual citizens are allowed to have a say, they say they don't want the Olympics.

It is a pretty big wast of money for a bunch of stuff that will hardly ever be used again

And its a waste of money when you consider that things like synchranized diving and other equally stupid things are in the olympics today. Cut 90% of the BS "sports" and have the games last a single weekend in an already present stadium in the host city. Have tests of endurance, strength, agility, intelligence etc. That's a true olympics. Not the crock of **** we have now.
