It Only Takes One Bozo To Kill Your Cloud Data

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2014/05/28/joyent_cloud_down/

Having already lost my data on an HD not long ago I certainly hope things like this get fixed in the future
Tis why I scoff at "the cloud is the future" and then **** like this happens. Or when someone easily breaks into the datacenter (because too many morons have easy passwords/poor encryption/easily socially engineered) and erases all the information or holds it hostage demanding you pay money before releasing it.

You can't rely on any single system to be secure and safe for data retention.

Normally when they do bring pets on the airplanes I think they go into a secure and safe cargo area of the plane.

Drunk Texas mom plows into 70-year-old man, drives into lake with baby in car: cops
Cops arrested 30-year-old Latonya Kirven after she allegedly critically injured the father of one of her children when she hit him with her car and, minutes later, drove into a lake with her 6-month-old boy strapped in the back seat, police said. The baby was unharmed; it wasn't clear if the victim was his father.

@HiddenCash: The Willy Wonka-Style Game That's Terrorizing California

qixcjqu1ldl6v1fvlhym.jpg

If you were at the Empire Center shopping center in Burbank last night, you would have seen something that looked like a riot: hundreds of people running around wildly, climbing on bus stops and jumping out of their cars suddenly. They all were after envelopes of money secretly placed around the mall by the mysterious man behind @HiddenCash.

For just over a week, the person controlling @HiddenCash—who describes himself as a "wealthy" 40-something real estate developer—has been hiding money, usually around $250 per envelope, in and around the Bay Area and Los Angeles. After placing the cash, he gives hints on Twitter about the locations.

As the account has picked up in popularity, the scavenger hunts have become more and more intense. This video shows people in Burbank combing through trash cans (hint: the money is not in the trash).

The frenzy has no doubt been stoked by @HiddenCash liberally retweeting photos of those who have found money.

That the game has reached its zenith in Los Angeles—perhaps the most shamelessly opportunistic place in America—isn't exactly surprising, but one figures the LAPD is thinking about putting a stop to this Robin Hood-times-Willy Wonka act.

But if anyone should be paying attention to @HiddenCash it's the federal government: forcing rich people to wantonly giving away their fortunes to random citizens would be very good public policy.

Almost put this in the Good Things thread and while it is a good thing I can see this getting out of control in the near future

Burglars Break Into Miley Cyrus' House, Leave With Her Maserati

gmxld1trp50pliwihmmi.jpg

According to police, two thieves broke into Miley Cyrus' San Fernando Valley home, stealing jewelry and making off with her new Maserati. The LAPD says that a man and woman scaled the fence and entered the home through the garage while no one was home.

This is the second burglary at Cyrus' home in seven months: $100,000 worth of purses and jewelry as well as "a lot of personal items" were stolen in November of 2013, a day before her 21st birthday.

Miley appears undaunted by the news of her home being robbed, as she posted a series of Instagram videos the same day the burglary was reported in which she "turns up."

You know when these rich folks get robbed I don't really bat an eye, I'm sure they have tons of insurance. Why does a 21 year old need a Maserati and $100k in purses?

Another Bounce House Blows Away, Injuring Two Children

For the second time in less than a month, two children were injured after the "bounce house" they were playing in went airborne.

The most recent incident took place Saturday during the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse Jamboree at a park in Littleton, Colorado. Witnesses say the bounce house was blown about 300 feet across the park before it finally came to a stop.

"All of a sudden, it picks up, and there's a girl going down the slide. She flies about eight feet in the air," Vanessa Atencio told KUSA. The girl was ejected instantly, according to Atencio, though the house continued to roll across the park.

"As the wind picked up, it would tumble," another witness said. "Like a bag in the wind."

A 10-year-old boy was trapped inside as the house blew across the lacrosse fields.

"They said that he just looked really beat up and shook up," Aleah Horstman told KUSA.

The girl was treated for minor injuries at the scene; the boy was taken to a local hospital for an evaluation, but avoided any serious injuries.

Last month, two children were hospitalized after a bounce house in New York was flung 50 feet in the air.

Are these people not anchoring these dang things? Weird, it keeps happening

Two young children—described as best friends—were repeatedly stabbed by a stranger in a Brooklyn elevator yesterday evening as they were on their way to get Icees. One child, Prince Joshua Avitto, 6, was pronounced dead at a local hospital while the other, Mikayla Capers, 7, remains in critical condition.

The attack took place in an elevator in the Boulevard Houses on Schenck Avenue in East New York just after 6 pm.

Sophia Diaz, one of the children's neighbors, told the New York Times she saw Mikayla in the hallway after the attack, covered in blood.

"'Did P.J. die?,'" the girl asked, according to Diaz. "Why did this man hurt me?"

From the Times:

Kevin Velez, a neighbor, described seeing the boy's mother run after his ambulance and bang on the door, begging to be allowed to ride with him. The medics would not let her in, he said.

Ms. Diaz drove the boy's mother to the hospital. After the mother was told that P.J. had died, she asked to see his body. When she saw that the boy had stab wounds in his neck, she began hugging him. " 'He was just a baby. He was just a baby,' " she cried, according to Ms. Diaz.

Diaz said Avitto was going to turn seven on June 17.

The suspect, described by police as heavyset and in his 20s, remains at large after fleeing the scene on foot. Police believe the attack was random.

Why would anyone do this? This is a seriously messed up individual and I hope he is caught and pays for this :cmad:

Unbelievable. How could anyone do this to 6 year olds? They should execute this ****er.

Who the heck would do something like this, especially to little kids?

And people wonder why I'm still in favor of capital punishment.

Oh cool, another horrible news story thread. Just what the Hype has been missing lately. :csad:

It's tragic but on the off chance that someone lives there maybe they have the missing peice of information that brings this guy in

Puppy Accidentally Drives Car Into Pond

fqwqhjqd1aspfixyql4j.jpg

Twelve-week-old German shepherd puppy Rosie is clumsy and not entirely in control of her faculties: She accidentally "drove" her owner's car into a pond near Boston this weekend.

"The dog jumped in and hit the gear shift and the car jerked and she fell on top of the gas pedal," Rosie's owner John Costello told WFXT. "It was just scary."

Police, too, were confounded by the 911 call Costello made asking for help. "I've never heard of a puppy driving a car into a pond," Officer Robert Quirk of the Canton police said.

Frightened, Rosie retreated to the back seat of the car, where Costello and a kind stranger in the park that day were able to rescue her before the car was submerged in the pond.

The car, which is actually Costello's daughter's, is totaled.

It never ceases to amaze me how puppies can cause some of the weirdest accidents all by random chances you wouldn't think possible

Better hope I don't run into this guy.

Could be the dude was just mentally unstable so.....who can say.

It's a terrible news story. I hope they catch the killer.

Could be the dude was just mentally unstable so.....who can say.
Oh, lots of people are going to say. They're going to blame mental illness, music, video games, and any number of things. None of which will justify what this animal did.

They should throw him in a room with Charles Bronson as a cellmate.

Mother****er needs to ****ing burn for this. Who does that? :(
