... and I'm not gonna lie... I'm actually enjoying the story. :o

I'm still against the unmasking and I still think it is wildly out of character for Peter AND I still think MJ and May were acting completely out of character when they "convinced" Pete to do it...

HOWEVER, the Civil War storyline, the PLOT, is pretty cool and I am enjoying how it is being written. It really didn't seem like Peter rushed into his decision, and I suppose I could see how he may have been persuaded to side with Iron Man AT FIRST. Peter was actually being written well within the context of the storyline, until he unmasked. I think Peter, his character, has gone downhill within the story from there. The unmasking still pissed me off, but when he didn't barely bat an eye after Goliath was murdered, and Thor was cloned... THAT was a gross misrepresentation, to say the least.

I also think they are REALLY messing up Reed's character as well. Although it was hinted in the books (I haven't been reading FF at all the last few years) that Sue and Reed have been fighting alot (before Civil War), that it was inevitable that they would split, I still can't picture Reed ever acting like such a peice of crap that he is acting like in CW.

So, to sum it up: Peter, Reed, MJ, and May are written horribly throughout this series. (Although things SEEM to be turning around with Peter finally flipping on Iron Man). Other than that, I think everyone else, including Iron Man, are being written well, and I really am enjoying the context of the actual Civil War storyline... :) I actually enjoy cussing IM out loud while I'm reading it... he's a friggin jackass who should be tied up and pissed on. :)

Anyhow, just my thoughts. I'm converted, I'm gonna keep buying it and ASM for the next few issues at least...

Peter seems to be snapping out of it though...as does Reed

Does FF:Civil War show Reed coming to his senses? I didn't really see that happening within the Civil War or Spidey books...

Sorta. We see that scene from Amazing ALL OVER AGAIN, but we see in the FF issue that Iron Man was listening in on that convo. Maybe he'll blast through the wall of the Baxter building and attack him with the same stupid "which side you're on" diatribe.

So people are paying twice the amount for 2 comics that show the same damn thing...

huh.

The interaction scene between Peter & Reed in ASM is shown (in a shorter version) in FF and we get to see Tony listening in on the conversation secretly (something we don't see in ASM).

The FF issue focuses more on Sue leaving Reed and the FF.

:yay:

Yay!! You get a juice box and 2 graham crackers during snack time. And this star.:wish:

Actually, Peter did have quite a reaction to Goliath and clone-Thor. . It's what made him decide to switch sides, and the Marvel Guantanamo Bay was the nail in the coffin. Peter stated to Tony after Goliath died "I thought you said no one else is going to get hurt." And when he looked Thor-clone in he eye for the 1st time he was clearly VERY disturbed and openly said to Hank and Janet "Do you ever think that we picked the wrong side?"

To be honest, I hated the end of the Ezekial arc, the totem thing got waaaaay out of control, Sins Past was disgusting and pathetic, and The Other was just childish moronic sorytelling.

But I have to say, I'm loving Civil War, and all the stories linked to it. I think the public unmasking was unnecessary and OTT, but I do believe everyone is acting in character. It was a natural evolution. I said from the start, I hate the idea of Peter being an Avenger, and IMO, all the events naturally lead to what is happening now. As soon as Peter joined the Avengers, I knew something like this was going to happen.

I really think that all the craziness is rationalised by the SHRA. Think about it... All the characters are getting their worlds turned upside down! I'm sure, if we were all put in such a messed up situation, many of us will be confused, make mistakes, and I'm sure we'll all be shocked by people's decisions and opinions.

When I've had political discussions with even my childhood friends, I can be shocked and disturbed by their thoughts and opinions. If put in certain positions by the government, they said that they'd follow certain laws that made no sense to me.

What I'm trying to say is, when politics and laws are involved, everything gets changed, people do crazy things, and its not that easy or black and white. It's very easy on the outside to comment, but being put in that position is very different.

The whole basis of Marvel characters are that they are fractured, made with feet of clay, (unlike DC characters.) Which means that they won't always act rationally. To me, these mistakes, switching sides etc. make the characters much more 3-D me. No human is infallable IMO, and this is why I like Marvel characters... They're so much more real to me.

And I REALLY don't understand it when people say Iron Man is acting out of character... Tony has always been a bit of a b*stard, arrogant, and manipulative, right from the start, always. It's lucky that he does have a heart, (no pun intended,) at the end of the day as he could've always been a supervillain easily. He used to use the Iron Man suit to live... Now that his health is perfect, and after having the Extremis formula, he's another kind of super being. He even said himself long before Civil War that he's the next step in human evolution. He does have some reason to feel arrogant... And he's acting like an arrogant man who's sure he's right.

And he's not doing these things out of the blue either. All the Avengers and Iron Man stories, (and mini's,) leading up to Civil War really gives him reason to be doing what he's dong, that's his personality.

But even in Civil War, he's had very clear worries and upset feelings. I don't know how he can be compared to Doom... I mean, while he was at Goliath's funeral, (which he completely paid for, quite rightly,) he was clearly unsure as to what's going on. But then that woman, (Martha of something?) came up to him, and gave him her dead son's 1st and fave toy, Iron Man! She then said she did it to remind Tony why he's doing this.

While I'm not on the side of registration at all... They do have a point I think. An elementary school got blown up! Iron Man is one of the people who really speare headed super hero culture in the MU, so he feels an obligation to try and make it so it never happens again. He feels so strongly about this, and so bad for the deaths of so many innocent children, that he'll go to any length to make sure that it doesn't happen again. To him, anyone acting cavalier and to their own accord, is a danger to society, The people don't want it anymore, so he does have a right to feel the way he does, and act the way he does

It's a messed up situation they're in... And it's not only down to IM and Cap. People within SHIELD are doing dodgy things, as are certain new people in Damage Control. Also, in FF it's been showed that certain villains are using hypnotic suggestion and mind control. If you want to use mind control, and have it easily masked... now is the time to strike pretty much.

All in all, I'm having a lot of fun with the storyline, and I think it's been the best thing to happen in comics for years. While I think the unmasking is very negative in the long term, the recent happeneings have been very interesting. They're proving how important the secret ID is for Peter, he's totally screwed! He will have his secret ID back again, I just hope it's done well. The reason I'm a bit chilled about it is beause I've been following DD for quite a while, and him being outed have brought the best DD stories in years. To top it off, he's now getting his secret ID back, and it's been done in a REALY cool way IMO. We can only hope that's what happens with Peter, (really hope!) Plus, Loeb is coming onto Spidey soon, let's hope he takes over ASM and does the job properly of putting his mask back on...

Anyone see the variant cover to CW #5??? Cool cover by Michael Turner, but do you see who's kicking Spidey's butt now??? (who isn't these days?!?!?!) Kinda spoilerish, but it let's you know who's pointin' the gun at Spidey on the regular cover of CW #5.

Yea... I dunno, I like Turner and all, but I really don't think his covers to Civil War come near McNiven. McNiven's are so unique, very mature, fits the story. Turners to me look quite generic 90's comic bookish. Don't get me wrong, I think he's really talented, I just don't thinkk his style fits the attitude of Civil War

And yea... a lot of people here were right about who's gun that was. I was kinda surprised at 1st, but then thinking about it, it totally makes sense. His whole like was turned upside down by powerful men who break the law... In a sense, this is no different. In a sense.

I actually liked that - a nice bit of continuity between the books and it explained just why Stark decided to go after Pete.
