Well, it's now official. Canada is on its way out of being a nation.

It'll be a motion that will likely pass.

Bloc leader urges MPs to take a hard look at Quebec nationhood

OTTAWA - Bloc Quebecois Leader Gilles Duceppe has urged parliamentarians to take a hard look at Quebec's place in Canada as they consider an amended separatist motion declaring that Quebecers form a nation "that is currently within Canada."

The separatist leader told the House of Commons this morning that Prime Minister Stephen Harper's motion declaring that Quebecers form a nation within a united Canada was a clumsy attempt to "pull the wool over the public's eyes."

Duceppe says federalist and separatist forces in Quebec alike see Harper's proposal as "just a partisan tactic;" he told Parliament to "stop sweeping this issue under the carpet and take a stand . . . without attaching any strings."

The federal Liberal caucus agreed today to support the Conservative government motion, although some Opposition MPs are unhappy with the decision.

At least one Liberal - Jim Karygiannis - says he'll vote against Harper's declaration, aimed at heading off the Bloc motion calling on Parliament to recognize Quebecers as a nation - but with no mention of Canada.

Vancouver MP Hedy Fry says she's torn and does not know how she'll come down on the issue; Liberals have been squabbling for weeks over their own resolution calling for recognition of Quebec as a nation.

There is a good chance that, in time, provinces will join the US.

And then I can live my dream!!

Hopefully Quebec will take its share of the debt with it.

On the plus side, there will be less reason to send those billions to Quebec each year to keep them in Canada.

Why is Quebec so eager to secede from Canada? Is it just a language/cultre thing?

In the beginning, it was. But it's simply become a way to get Canada to send them billions of dollars each year to get them to stay.

Hmm bad ideal Canada, Bush might want to invade you now ;)

Remember when Triumph the Insult Comic Dog went to Quebec? That was funny.

Not likely. Soon enough, we'll all be Americans.

They'll put it to a vote and it won't happen... again.

This question/idea keeps coming up every few years. It's the main focus of the "Bloc Quebecois". If they didn't have this as a platform they'ld stand for nothing.

It will happen, if not this time, then perhaps next time.

A nation ultimately cannot stand when a significant portion of the population wants out.

We should work harder at pushing Quebec out.
