Because once Peter goes to Oscorp they drop the parents angle entirely from the rest of the friggin movie. So either it is a really terrible script (which could also be to blame) or they dropped some of the plot points because the movie is also really terribly edited (which is obvious). You choose your own adventure.
I was referring to Ben dying at home and Cpt. Stacy dying in a wherehouse. Where did you get this info from? Do you have a copy of that script? Is this from an article?

If it wasn't an accident, then it was really contrived that Ratha lets him in the room and he automatically assumes that one of the spiders is gonna bite Peter when he (presumably) drops the spiders on him. My theory is this:
Sony wanted to take a different direction at the last moment, and they re-shot the spider room-part. Proof: in the teaser the spider-bite is different and in a tv-spot or bts there's an alternate part where Peter looks at the spiders and suddenly they start to glow, like they're being activated. So, Ratha probably activated the spiders so Peter would get bitten. But, I guess it's again just accidental.

Well if they reshot the bite the made it more like Raimi again! Both times now he got bitten because he was talking to "the girl next door." ;)

Seriously though, it's pretty obvious Ratha was going to reveal something about his parents. That was the implication. Hence why the scene is cut.

Oh god this was forever ago. I know Troy Parker saved it. It was generally dismissed by most on here (including myself) when it leaked 2 years ago but then the trailers and summaries came out and the leak got some things right that was in the movie. I really think its an actual leak of one of the first drafts.

For the record, the bite is not necessarily different in the teaser. They make it look like he's getting but, but those could just be the shots of him freaking out when all the spiders are on him.

I re-watched the movie yesterday and I'm gonna have to admit, I was probably wrong on my assumption.

Peter leaves class. Curt's wife and Billy Connors wait for him outside. They ask him if he has seen Curt. Peter promises her that he will find him.

Peter has a fight with Aunt May when he asks her questions about his parents and she doesn't reply. He let's off steam by going for a swing.

Stacy let's his man go into the Sewer system. We get an Aliens-esque scene where The Lizard takes out his men. Spider-Man gets in on the action. A battle ensues. Spidey grabs a torn piece of cloth from Lizard's back.

A man gets killed by the Lizard. Spider-Man stays for the man's last few breaths.

Flashback of Spider-Man catching Uncle Ben's killer, and letting him live. He is strung up in a warehouse. Capt. Stacy( then Detective) is awestruck by what he sees.

Spider-Man and Capt. Stacy call it a day.

Peter is at school collecting supplies and tools in order to identify the cloth's origin (Fun scene). He eventually comes to the conclusion it's Curt Connors.

Flashback of Peter working on a regeneration report with Curt Connors. Curt explains that his project is going to change the world. The fact that he is testing on himself is implied.

Spidey walks down a corridor and confronts The Lizard. Another battle develops. Spider-Man makes an attempt to talk to Curt when fighting the Lizard. However, The Lizard is merciless and continues attacking.

Peter is beat down after the fight. He heads home and to bed.

Peter is talking to Gwen in the library. They have great character interaction between each other, until there are appearances by a dead Uncle Ben, Richard, and Mary Parker. His parents haunt him because they want justice for their deaths. It is all in fact a nightmare.

Gwen gets a phone call at 5 am. Peter is waiting outside and needs someone to talk to, about the nightmare. She invites him in her home.

Peter meets Captain Stacy. He was a friend of Uncle Ben's. Stacy shows a lot of interest in Peter's life. Stacy leaves the scene.

Peter browses around the kitchen. On the table is a file labelled "Richard and Mary Parker". Peter steals it. He thanks Gwen and says she helped more than she knows.

A lighthearted scene occurs when Peter calls in sick from school. The exchange of words between the "sick" Peter and the secretary is amusing.

After the call, Peter opens the file and begins reading.

Flashback to Richard and Mary Parker going over their mission. Richard Parker will sneak into the Oscorp laboratories and look for any information on the disappearance of several civilians. Mary Parker will distract the head of security, Nels Van Adder, for the time being.

Richard breaks into the facility and finds that the missing civilians are being experimented on. We have references to other villains. He gathers evidence.

Mary flirts and extracts information about Norman Osborn as she speaks with Nels Van Adder.

Richard and Mary accomplish their mission and move back to their getaway vehicle.

Nels Van Adder immediately calls Norman Osborn. He explains the situation that just occurred and we see the getaway vehicle explode entirely. Mary and Richard Parker are dead.

Peter is in utter shock. His anger is displayed and Aunt May comes to comfort him. Peter apologizes to May for his outburst earlier.

Peter realizes he cannot fix the past and listens to the formula tapes of Curt Connors as his teacher explain the lesson. Peter manages to answer the questions asked by the teacher as well as figuring out a formula for the antidote.

While his classmates work on forming a solution in class, Peter is forming the antidote.

Gwen Stacy sets the table for dinner. Captain Stacy and Gwen speak about Peter and how they both like him. He says that he has work to attend to and that he will be back in a few hours. He says goodbye to her.

Peter works on homework as he listens to his police scanner. He hears a call that matches Lizard's description. Peter suits up. Aunt May wishes him safety as he leaves his home.

The address of the call is the warehouse where Ben's killer was caught.

Scenes interlock of Captain Stacy driving to the scene of the crime, Spider-Man swinging, and Curt's wife and son watching the news.

As the huge warehouse emerges...

Flashback of Captain Stacy looking at the perp webbed by Spider-Man. This is the first time any of the officers have seen a thing so amazing. Stacy sees Spider-Man on a building watching overhead.

The officers rush into the warehouse. The final battle begins between Spider-Man and the officers against The Lizard. Plenty of bloodshed.

The warehouse begins falling apart. Captain Stacy saves one of the officers from the falling rubble. Costing his life. Spider-Man uses the antidote on Lizard. He transforms back to his human form. Spidey goes to the dying Captain and Stacy says, " You did good, kid." Gwen is calling on his cell phone, as Stacy takes his last breath. He dies in Spider-Man's arms.

Eh, doesn't sound as good as the final film.

Hrmm.. changes to comic book mythology in Comic book movies is not exactly a new thing, let us see....

Batman 1989 - Joker killed Bruce's Parents (in the comics it was Joe Chill.)

Batman Begins - Ras Al Ghul trains Bruce Wayne. (in comics Bruce learns form various masters through out the world.)

Spider-man (2002) organic Web shooters(In comics he invents mechanical web shooters.)

Spider-man 3- Sandman is reveled to be the real killer of Uncle Ben.

Thor - Dr. Donald Blake is absent.

Iron man - Jarvis is A. I. instead of a human being.

So, as long as the essence of the character is intact, some superficial changes do not matter.
TDKR had TONS of changes from the source material. Its okay if Nolan does it, but anyone else, then its suddenly the end of the world. I don't mind change. In fact, I'm open to it as long as they do it well.

Little things like "Spider-Man watches from a distance" (even though it's actually Peter watching in the movie) make me think that this is a very early version of the script.

Not to mention the character Van Attler who was the original role that was replaced with Dr.Raffa and the prominence of the Connors family. Sounds much better than the actual film, but definitely not a Marc Webb style film.

I dunno... it feels too flashback-heavy; relying on it for exposition rather than showing it as it happens. Another issue about the flashbacks is that they revolve more around dead characters as opposed to the central cast. And the biggest problem of all is that they don't show Spider-Man's origins - which is a no-no for a first movie, in my opinion.

The final version is a lot more polished with all the central characters connecting to the movie's plot; including the love interest, by making her Connors' assistant and having her synthesise the antidote used at the movie's climax.

There's one thing to take into consideration though, if I remember this correctly:

When this "early draft" was released, we already knew about Peter's parents having a role in the film, about Dr. Connors having a large role with an audition for Billy as well. We had a picture of a zoo or something as a hint of the villain (which was obvious that it was Lizard). We knew about Peter being in high school. We knew about Capt. Stacy and Gwen. I think we even had a picture of Gwen and officers at the funeral back then.

This overview of an "early draft" could easily be something fan made, based on all the info we already had back then. There were already rumours of a "Van Adder" as well, who turned out to be Dr. Ratha. Whether that was a false rumour or Webb changed the name of the character is unknown.

I feel that the franchise may be doomed because this seems more and more like the story is being controled by the studio, as was previouslt shoun it seems like much was cut to be resolved in a sequel, like some of the thing related to Peter's father

Well if they reshot the bite the made it more like Raimi again! Both times now he got bitten because he was talking to "the girl next door." ;)
I know that wasn't supposed to be serious, but technically, Gwen doesn't live next door to Peter.

Studio interference or not, I found the film to be absolutely amazing. Could be a bad sign for the sequels if they want more popcorn and less brain and heart, but if they keep on with the same style I have absolutely no problem with who's controlling what.

Don't forget, Sony is also responsible for the first two Spider-Man movies, which are amazing to me. We had one slip up with Spider-Man 3 due to the addition of Venom in the last minute, script issues, etc. This film is a reboot, and had so many things going against it. They had to develop a story that was at least different and create a whole new universe with a new feel to it. Now that they got this overwith, hopefully we can pull another Spider-Man 2.

Yeah! If it was Sony's decision to delete scenes that made Peter seem like an Ang Lee product, then they made the right decision if you ask me. Sometimes it's good to listen to the fans, other times it's not. This was a case of the first (unless they go with it in the sequels instead). It's easy to blame the studio but sometimes things turn out good, as is the case with this film.

I still wouldn't have minded the genetic tampering of Peter.

The Ang Lee Hulk is by far the better movie IMO. If all you want to see is Hulk smash stuff then by all means watch TIH and enjoy it. For me however, the Hulk has always been a study of human psychology and the conflicts therein. In that regard, HULK was a fantastic movie with some of the best fight sequences ever seen on film.

Completelly agreed, i understand that it wasn't the Hulk movie people wanted but Ang Lee's Hulk is one of my favourite superhero movies, very well directed and it stand as a very good stand alone film, i think that it was received by the wrong audience, the people that would have liked it probably thought it was going to be a midless and action-packed blockbuster.

That script leak is almost certainly real. It was submitted under the title Fiona's Tale (after Webb's cat), which was the shooting title for TASM. I don't believe we learned that until that interview with Webb a couple of months ago, no?

:up::up::up:

People were expecting a smashtacular and got a character study of Bruce Banner instead. My inner nerd rejoiced, the general public did not.

I absolutely love this movie. I pop it in every few months.

That early script feels too much like Batman with the unsolved cases thing.

Spider-Mans origin isn't a big deal thought like Batmans it's something that can easily be looked over. The big problem with most superhero films is thinking inside the box thinking conventionally, using the formulaic cliched origin centered film. Flashbacks are fine and all that matters is that our hero learns something and grows as a character. That being said, I do take that back as I like the lesson Peter learns in Amazing, but I don't believe the origin was a necessary way to present this lesson.

Batman's origin is the one that can be overlooked imo. Still, I liked BB
