What’s the better future for Batman? The Dark Knight Returns vs Batman Beyond

There was nothing 'definitive' about TDKR because, once again, it was satire.

It being popular doesn't negate that fact.

You’re completely missing the point

Beyond, easily. TDKR was a good read, but it's not a future I would ever like to see for the DC Universe in canon.

After long deliberation I am going for Beyond too. I think that maybe because it’s a little bit more hopeful than DKR. I also prefer how Superman turned out in the Beyond universe.

I love DKR though.

Returns... easily. No Batman story better captured Bruce Wayne's psychology than TDKR. It was a natural progression from the character to go from Batman to vigilante leader, and honestly... I can't imagine a more fitting end to the Batman story.

The Dark Knight Returns has never meant to in any way represent an actual possible future for the mainstream version of Batman as we know and love him. It is an entirely elseworlds title, and as others have stated already, it's a satire on Batman and superhero comics. That's why you don't base a movie around it. And that's why it's a bad concept to seriously consider as a future for Batman.

Batman Beyond is the better future by default.
