Superman Returns What Aspects of Superman Returns do you feel should influence the comics?

No not really...he's more like BR Clark IMO, but again he has also been powerless the whole year so there was no need to act dorky. What I seen of him before he got his powers back wasn't dorky. He was out actively investigating and even got a beat down from Luthor, though it was implied he could have stood up for himself.

I don't think we are going to get dorky, clumsy, oaf-y Clark again. I think we'll get the fly on the wall who isn't noticed, and no one pays attention. He'll come off dorky by definition of others...not so much because he's acting like a fool.

I personally prefer this version better.

See, the problem I have with the fly on the wall Clark, is that he's not all that entertaining. I mean, in ALL STAR.....He managed to slip, fall, get back up and almost knock some cofee over a table all in one page. I just thinks it manages to make Clark "the cover" as someone that people can find kinda funny, and not just counting time until he rips off the shirt and flys to do his thing. I'd like that Clark to make a total comeback.

I understand the cover, but I like the fly on the wall more because that to me makes more sense as a cover. He is there at the DP to be alerted to disasters and keep his ear to the ground, but he shouldn't be stumbling around acting a fool. It makes sense that NO one notices him, which to me makes much better sense as a cover than him acting stupid. Don't get me wrong, I like some aspects of clumsy Clark. It can be funny, but it can be overdone.

Kara In-Ze from the animated series is from Argo....

Well, I think overdone is kinda the way it's supposed to be. Kinda like, "Wait....that guy can't be any kind of hero" type of thing. Storywise......I think the clumsy Clark can entertain, realistically.....I dunno. I can see how a quiet, nobody, never talking to anyone type of person can get by....but that'd be a boring life for the guy. I image he wants to interact with people, and have firends.....but still keep his cover.

Yeah. I see this, and I do understand what you are saying. I guess for me, I've always liked that he's clumsy to mask his powers...not so much to act like a fool as a disguise. I just dislike all the goofiness and tripping all the time.

Fly on the wall Clark can still have friends. He goes unnoticed by the majority, but he can have friends. Obviously, Jimmy and Perry and Lois would be friends of his.

edit:

I say fly on the wall, and the only version I can think of is STAS' Clark. He was fly on the wall, a bit nerdy, and when he needed to be he was clumsy. That's what I like...not him just acting like a fool because it's a good act.

I stand in agreement with you, I prefer this version of Clark!

Well, I see what you mean. I wouldn't want him to trip all the time.....just enough to keep me there, ya know?

But, that's the balancing act I guess.....finding the perfect moments to make Clark clumsy....and when not to.

well Bale, clark tripping and acting dorky would draw attention to himself. People would start to notice him more, and when your hide yourself with a pair of fake glasses its not wise to draw a crowd.

Supergirl and Robin, much like Dawn Summers in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, are useless characters who take up space and energy. There wouldn't even be a Supergirl if I had my bones about it. Outside of whatever is lurking in the Phantom Zone, Superman should/would be the last. He is called The Last Son of Krypton for a reason ya know.

I'm still undecided on this whole Last Son of Krypton arguement. I never was really fond of Supergirl for some reason. That's probably because my first introduction to her was Helen Slater, and I never understood her origins...even as a child. Plus, uhhh...there's a whole other planet of Kryptonains??? It just never made sense to me.

But...I like Krypto. Don't ask me why, but the idea that Superman has a super-dog is cool. I also like Superman robots, so what does that tell you :)

I flip flop on this a lot because who is to say that he is the only Kryptonian. I mean, the planet exploded but they were a highly advanced civilization. Maybe someone else got away while it exploded. I guess the whole notion of other survivors doesn't bother me because it does seem possible. But...what does that say about the whole last son of Krypton line????

See...undecided :)

edit:

Though, one of the reasons I'd like for Superman to have a child is it's legit way to have another super powered good person with Kryptonian roots. I don't like cloned Superboys and meteor crashing Kara's.

Actually, rather than Super-girl being Superman's "cousin" she was actually something quite different.

Jimmy Olsen had this little totem pole thing that he could use to make a wish with. He wished that there was a female version of Superman and *poof* Supergirl

^^ so Supergirl is a genie? ;)

my orientation of Supergirl's origins was that she was from Argo, a sister planet of Krypton. she pretty much has the same powers as Superman except that she's a girl. the explanation that she was actually a blood relative came years later.

but Supergirl's history is one of the most messed up of all superhero histories, which is sad :(.

SO why don't we compromise between the two Clarks and go with Birthright Clark who was both a bit clumsy when it suited him, and still very much a fly on the wall. Hell we even get Singers feelings of isolation with that Clark...a perfect blend :D

True, BUT with a cloned Superboy there is no chance of him usurping the Superman title. With a son they could "retire" Clark and that woudl piss me off...

If they're gonna have a kid in the comics, please let it be a girl [crosses fingers]

hmmm... come to think of it, has anybody kept tabs on the gender of Superman's child on all those stories that they have tackled it?

The Kingdom (with WW) = Son
DKR2(?) (with WW) = Daughter
JLU cartoons (with Lana)= Son
the story that Mr. Mxyzptlk showed of the future (with Lois)= Daughter

am i missing a story?

Well if you're using the Elseworlds like DK and Kingdom then you left out a biggie

Son of Superman= Son
Secret Identity= Son + Daughter

Personally, I think Myxie's version was the best. Plus the thought of Clark/Supes as the ultimate overprotective daddy could make for such great humor moments :D

BTW--I'm behind on my JLU, LANA AND SUPES HAVE A KID!?!?!?!?!

isnt that the same as The Kingdom? ;) (the actual title being Son of Superman?)

Secret Identity= Son + Daughter
wow, this i didnt know. who wrote this?

it was the episode titled "For the Man Who has Everything", Superman was in a trance and part of his dream was that Krypton never exploded, and that he has a family there, a wife called Lana (who is a combination of Lana and Lois) and a son called Van-El.

Are you sure? I thought SoS was the son of Lois and Supes and a different line than Kingdom...I could be wrong

Not sure. It's a different sort of story. It's about Superman, but not the Superman you might think. I know It's on Amazon...it's pretty cool.

Really?! Huh, I gotta get back on the JLU wagon

Secret Identity is fantastic. It's written by Kurt Busiek. And "Superman" (read it to find out why that's in quotes) has twin daughters, not a son and daughter.

Figure of speech. The same views and the same ways of expressing them.

Its not a big deal if you are Venom420, but I'm pretty confident you are.

We still have a bet going Venom, I havent forgotten.

Kane, old buddy old pal, were ya speaking to me? It touches my heart to know that even after my exile from this board, my contributions are still thought of.

The bet is still going my friend, and Im fairly confident that I was right about Lex Luthor being a comedy act. Even though the positive reviews tower over the negative reviews, Spacey is referred to as a " comedic menace " for the most part. So I wasn't WRROONNNGGGG haha. Bring on Braniac already.
