What Characters Don't Marvel Studios Own Independently?

Spider-Man
Ghost Rider
X-Men
Daredevil
Fantastic Four
Punisher
Blade
Namor

And probably more

and most characters very closely associated (in theory) with those listed

I.E.
Bullseye, Elektra, Kingpin etc - Daredevil (Fox)
Magneto, Apocalypse etc - X-Men (Fox)
Doctor Doom, Mole Man, Franklin Richards etc - F4 (Fox)
Mephisto, Blackheart etc - Ghost Rider (Sony/Columbia)
Gwen Stacy, JJJ, Norman Osborn etc - Spider-Man (Sony/Columbia)
Jigsaw, The Russian - Punisher (Lionsgate)
Deacon Frost, Hannibal King - Blade (New Line)
Namorita - Namor (Universal)

- I'm not sure if Columbia still has Black Panther.
- Doctor Strange is supposedly on Marvel's slate, though last i heard Paramount bought the rights from Miramax, who got them from Dimension Films, who got them from Columbia.
- I think marvel still might own Cable
- Deadpool is still iffy, as is Venom

Deadpool is at Fox like all the X-Men universe characters and Venom at Sony.
Silver Surfer and Galactus are with Fox too obviously.

i remember reading that marvel still owns venom even after his SM3 appearance, though they were most likely mistaken

Venom is still at Sony; they will produce a spin-off based on Venom very soon.

Sony has Spider-Man, Venom, Luke Cage and Ghost Rider's rights.
Fox owns Fantastic Four, Silver Surfer, Daredevil, Elektra, X-Men, Deadpool.
Lionsgate has Punisher and Man-Thing.
New Line has Blade and Nightstalkers.

Marvel Studios has the rights of:
- Iron Man;
- Hulk;
- Ant-Man;
- Thor;
- Captain America;
- Doctor Strange;
- Nick Fury;
- Black Widow;
- Black Panther;
- Shang-Chi;
- Cable;
- Iron Fist;
- Vision;
- Cloak & Dagger;
- Power Pack
and some others i don't remember now.

Universal has the rights for Namor, actually.

Marvel needs to somehow magically get the film rights back for the Fox properties...

so how could Marvel/Disney get the properties back

so how could Marvel/Disney get the properties back

$$$$$$$$

For the most part, I doubt that Marvel is getting the rights to anything they sold back anytime soon. Now, other studios might be interested in a co-production / profit sharing arrangement, but if they believe there's money to be made, they're going to make money off of what they paid for.

In some ways, that's what holding back DC. Warner Bros. hasn't shelled out money for rights, so they have no incentive at this point to get a return on their investment.

I wonder how the animated rights compare to live action rights? Could Lionsgate or Pixal make an animated X-Men movie? Would being direct dvd effect it?

Animated rights seem like a whole different ball game, considering what has been made.

Blackman, yous axe grammialy incorrect question. Don't say don't. SHE-AIM ON U

On the animated stuff, I was just wondering if Marvel had a completely 100% free hand, or if say Universal got a cut in Hulk Vs because of "Rights" I'm thinking like you night0250 though, it's probably Marvels call.

Marvel doesn't own ANYTHING independently. They are a wholly owned subsidiary of Disney now, are they not?

Disney owns Marvel. Yes.
Marvel, under Disney, is privately producing and creatively controlling all the paramount films, and hulk, at this moment. Animated films are completely different then live action films rights. Not sure if Namor has returned to marvel yet, they haven't made a film, so I bet it probably has. Sony will do whatever it takes not to return Spider-man, and Fox will do whatever it takes not to return X-men. However, Daredevil, Fantastic Four, Ghost Rider, all could very possibly return to Marvel, who's under Disney. But the studios know the potential money that can be made by Marvel characters, so most properties they would probably want to keep.

Marvel seem happy for Sony and Fox to continue making X-Men and Spider-Man movies at the moment because they are focusing on getting comic character properties they do have the screen rights for made into movies.

Quick question how do you figure on:Apocalypse and Namorita?

Also don't forget Silver Surfer!

Surfer definitly is FOX's as of now, as far as Apocalyse I'd guess FOX again because is solely associated with X-Men. Namorita is a toughy being her character has been used in mutiple comics. Warriors n Agents of Atlas. Guess it goes to rights question on where she originated.

quick question.
Isn't Namorita a stupid name?
I always thought.
I would have even preferred Sub-Mariness.

Well wasnt Hulk owned by Universal and then given back to Marvel?
I hope they can do that with Namor who also is owned by Universal

Universal lost the rights due to inactivity. Namor quite frankly should have been back at Marvel cuz he's not been in any of the FF movies and the solo film has been in development hell for years.

How does losing rights due to inactivity work
because Fox owns Daredevil and that came out in 2003 same time as Hulk did

Shouldn't Marvel have gotten the rights back for Daredevil by now? Hulk and Daredevil came out the same year, yet Marvel got back Hulk but not Daredevil.
