Jean's primary, or first, mutation grants her dual psionic generation, that is the generation of both hard and soft psi-energy, in order to create many effects. These include:
Telepathy: can manipulate the minds of others and even higher order animals within a vast, potentially limitless radius. She has not always had access to her Telepathy due to mental blocks. Her notable powers include:
Telepathic Cloak: Can mask her presence from being detected by others. Her abilities can at times go undetected or be counteracted by other more powerful telepaths depending on their level of skill in using their own psi abilities. She can extend these defenses to others around her as well.
Psychic Shadow: ability to mask herself, and other peoples' presence from those around her. Can telepathically disguise herself, making her appearance that of a shadow. Marvel Girl has developed a golden Phoenix emblem energy signature, which appears over her right eye whenever she uses her powers.
Mind Control: ability to control the minds of others upon mere concentration.
Mind Possession: ability to possess the mind of another, and use that beings body as her own.
Mind Alteration: ability to alter the minds of others by force of will, changing their personality partially or entirely.
Psionic Shield: ability to erect a psychic shield for protection of herself and of others minds.
Telepathic Illusions: ability to create illusions to make herself seem to be invisible, look like someone else, or make others experience events that are not truly happening.
Mental Paralysis: ability to induce temporary mental or physical paralysis.
Mental Amnesia: Can erase any awareness of particular memories or cause total amnesia.
Psionic Blasts: can project psionic force bolts which have no physical effects but which can affect a victim's mind so as to cause the victim pain or unconsciousness and turning someone brain-dead.
Astral Projection: can project her astral form from her body onto astral planes or the physical planes. In the physical plane she can travel in astral form over vast distances. In the astral plane, she can mentally create psionic objects and manipulate the aspects of her environment.
Mind Transferal: able to transfer both her mind and powers into other host bodies if her own physical body could be somehow killed.
Mental Detection: can sense the presence of another superhuman mutant within a small but as yet undefined radius of himself by perceiving the distinctive mental radiations emitted by such a being.
Psionic Firebird: ability to manifest her telepathy as a psionic firebird; whose claws could inflict both physical and mental damage.
Neural Jumpstart: ability to increase the speed of neural signals in the brain, she could increase another mutants powers to incredible levels, but the effect was only temporary.
Telekinesis: possesses telekinetic abilities enabling her to manipulate matter and energy, and to some extent energy, psionically. She can levitate herself in order to fly at high speeds or merely hover, manipulate matter on a molecular level, project telekinetic shields capable of withstanding missile blasts, create objects of pure psionic force, focus her mental energy at a specific target in order she can release devastating force blasts, and control the biological functions of other lifeforms including other humans.
It was later revealed that Jean had a secondary mutation. This mutation makes her the physical imbodiment of the Phoenix Force; she and the Phoenix itself has stated that they are in fact one and the same being. The powers of the Phoenix powers are infinite. She is able to manipulate matter and energy on a molecular scale, although this varies on the Force's status and how much power it chooses to allocate to her.
Phoenix Force: A manifestation of a primal force of the universe which embodies the concepts of life and passion, especially the passion to create and destroy, and derives its power from the psyches of all living beings in the universe. The Phoenix Force gives her vast psionic ability to manipulate time, space, matter, and energy for virtually any purpose. Phoenix can also revive, absorb, rechannel and preserve any kind of life-form, since the Phoenix is the sum of all life-force. The Phoenix force can significantly boost her mental abilities allowing her to rearrange matter at a molecular level, to fly un-aided through space, create intense heat and thermal energy by stimulating molecular activity, manipulate the voluntary and involuntary responses in the human body. She manifested a “telekinetic sensitivity”; that let her feel the texture of objects she had a telekinetic hold on, feel when other objects came into contact with them and probe them at a molecular level to identify alien materials or feel when two things she “held” were similarity composed. In addition to this, when the power of the phoenix force is engaged, she is surrounded in a flame-like energy corona that takes the form of a large bird of fire.
White Phoenix of the Crown: Later it was revealed that Jean Grey is the physical embodiment of the Phoenix Force, but she was the “White Phoenix of the Crown” and as such, had the power to control entire timelines and travel to other dimensions by creating portals between realities. Also, it was revealed that Phoenix’s mind resonates across the multiverse, and may be a nexus of realities. Because she is the Phoenix, Jean will resurrect herself after death. Sometimes she resurrects almost immediately; while other times she stays an extended period in the White Hot Room to do “Phoenix Work” (affecting timelines, repairing realities, etc). She can resurrect later within a new body formed from a Phoenix Egg/cocoon.
Known Abilities: Jean excelled in astral combat. She maintained a psychic link to Cyclops for a number of years. She posessed the memories of the Phoenix duplicate of her as well as those of Madelyne Pryor-Summers, her clone. She is also extremely inteligent.
I actually came to be an X-Fan rather late in the game. Alot of X-Lore is just a recap of what I used to know back in the day when I was still somewhat interested in X-Men. I wasn't all into X-Men that much but I did watch the cartoons when I was a kid. Cyclops was my fave...but I didn't pay attention to Jean... by the time I saw the movie verse of the X-Men, I fell in love with Jean (famke) ... yet because of Scott's connection with Jean, it really helped me appreciate, care, understand Jean a whole lot more. so I guess you can say I'm passionate for... her... lol. Jean rocks!!
