What Happend to Family Guy?

I find it funny that Iraq, 9/11, the holocaust are all fair game (as well they should be), but make fun of the friggin' "elephant man" who died well over a century ago and that's just "too far" for the poster. Um, what? :yay:

The brow just got a little too low for me.

Family Guy simply offends my intelligence when they make really, really obvious and low brow political jokes. That sort of commentary works best when it's subtle.

For example, the episode where they go back and time and Brian makes some comment about some instance where a bunch of pundits (I know Tucker Carlson was mentioned) were killed and how they couldn't go back, that was funny.

However, "LOIS, YOU CAN'T WORK FOR FOX NEWS. THEY ARE THE MOST BIASED AND CONSERVATIVE NEWS STATION ON THE PLANET, SPEWING LIES AND DECEIT" isn't necessary. It would have been much funnier without the blatant explanation.

Humor doesn't work when you sit there and explain every punchline, which is what they do with most of their political jokes. Which is odd, because they don't feel the need to explain their jokes on ultra-obscure 80's and pop-culture references. That's what bugs me.

This kind of reminded me of the old "You can't talk about the network like that," "What are they going to do, cut our budget?" gag from an early episode. (Peter ends up walking out of the room as a single animation frame, remember?)

Sadly, with cost-cutting shortcuts...like having a entire sequence where all we see is Meg, unanimated, sitting on the couch while Peter & Chris talk off-screen (3 times!!!), or -ugh- 3 minutes of Conway Twitty....

Yeah, that "cut our budget" joke just doesn't seem as funny anymore. :csad:

Oh great. Tonight is an episode about Brian trying to legalize pot.

Snooze and in b4 preaching.

Oh joy, I expect this episode to fall apart during the second act.

Brian was a lot cooler before he became an author avatar.

Show didn't end up being as bad as I had originally thought.

I'm kinda surprised myself.

The stoner news cast was kinda funny.

being a pothead myself, I thoroughly enjoyed the episode. It's obvious Seth is pro marijuana and legalization and it's just damn great when someone of his status actually goes out of his way to preach it. Weed damn well should be legalized and if more shows took a stance on it, well, let's just say it doesn't hurt the cause. Good job Seth

now if only I could find a way to get the "bag of weed" song onto my phone

and FOX was on fire tonight with Simpsons, American Dad and even Sit Down, Shut Up. So I have to say this as well.......Good Job FOX

So, what was the point of the whole cat thing again?

This episode tonight blew...started awesome with the whole cat thing but thats about it other then the odd line here and there.

It's like every family guy episode.

Something stupid happens in the beginning as a plot device to spark the actual story.

Peter kills cat.
Peter and Brian try to dispose of cat.
Cops pull Brian and Peter over.
Cops find Brian with weed and is sent to jail.

i also enjoyed it very much. Although they should have postponed it till tommari(strange wilderness).

How long before a Chris Brown/Rihanna joke pops up on the show? Any guesses? Or have they already done one?

I've always wondered about that. I like Family Guy, but I find Brian Griffin one of the most reprehensible fictional characters on television. I wonder if he's meant to be that way on purpose, or if he is, as you say, a projection of the creator, who is himself such a person who doesn't see himself in that way.
He's a mouthpiece character who's always right about everything. Seth McFarlane is a giant *****ebag and his show, which was once a favorite of mine, has gotten to the point where I don't even watch the new ones. And I watched Malcolm in the Middle and That 70s Show through to the end.

FG is getting pretty stale and tonight was another weak effort. The difference in my enjoyment between the syndicated rerun eps from years ago and the new stuff is unreal.

Damn GREAT episode, which more were like it. I too agree that it would have been nice if they delayed Family Guy just this once for Monday night being 4/20 and all. Would've just made my Holiday that much better

and Happy 4/20 to all Stoners on the board. The Holidays are truely the greatest time of the year

:stoned: only bad part about the Hype, no pothead smilie

I liked the joke about the anti-pot commercial with the anti-semitic dog. That got a chuckle out of me.

Now, I'm probably the biggest stoneman on these boards. I go through QP's a week, and todays the 42 falvored 42g mondoblunt day that I have annually with my buddies. However, it's my thing and rarely comes up. Theres no real place to talk about it on a board like this, and theres hardly any reason too.
That being said, it's not even a holiday. Hell, there's no real reason to use 4/20 other than people used to think it was a penal code for marijuana busts, the time for "tea" over in amsterdam, the chemicals in weed, so on and so forth. Truth is, it was just a group of High Schoolers in 70/71 or so who would meet at a statue at 4:20 (the time their detention let out) to smoke. They started calling it (and any other smoking session) "420 time" or something as their own little lingo so "the man" wouldn't know.

It's not a holiday, it's nothing special. Everyone's smoked weed, and of those few who haven't, likely don't want to, don't want to hear about it, so on and so forth.

Oh, and the Family Guy episode sucked. The only thing worse than *****ehat McFarls try to push **** on society like this, is the reaction it's going to get. Both positive (from stoners, druggies, hippies, or anyone on any of those cultures/sub-cultures), and negative (nagging moms and such).

Great, I can't wait.

Is this show still on Fox??? I haven't seen a new episode in a while...Fox is terrible at promoting their show....Did American Dad get the axe yet???

Episode wins: The truly inspired Bag of Weed song, the dead baby joke and Brian's crappy novel getting its ass handed to it.

Episode fails: Cat getting slaughtered with a straight razor. Countdown to some idiot doing it in real life after watching this: 10, 9, 8, 7 ...

I find this Marijuana obssessed culture saddening.:csad:

Its fun to smoke & all, but damn. There is more to life.

Pretty much this is how I feel about the whole thing. I mean, when I was younger I was pretty heavy into all of it, but not so much now. I mean I smoke a ****load an all, but I try my best to not mention it unless it comes up, or unless I'm smoking someone out. Or unless I need to fill a few bars in my lyrics, cause it's always easy to rap about weed for two bars.

Rofl.
