What if the ALIEN franchise had gone differently?

The idea of Hicks and Bishop investigating the Yutami corp was a pretty cool idea. And if you think about it, Ripley's arc was kind of complete. She went out and faced her fears and defeated the thing she never wanted to go back to. She could dream again. It would of been a nice ending to her being in a coma. Tragic yet meaningful.

Though I like the idea of the alien stripping the happiness away from her. I still need to watch this.

Alien 3 shouldn't have been about Ripley, in my opinion. And that was the original idea. But the heads at FOX said no, they wanted Ripley. Sigourney = bums in seats. Having Ripley come back was the start of the diminishing returns. To keep it fresh they should've made a new story, new characters. In fact, they almost did, until FOX intervened again and again. Greed compromised Alien 3.

I disagree with that.

It was risky to go with the whole "unhappy ending" theme.

Great article in the latest issue of Empire on The "Alien" saga. The first one is still by far my favorite. I didn't know Giger took some inspiration from Francis Bacon for the Chestburster and Facehugger.

Man, I really wish this Alien 3 happened.

I'd be fine if Alien 3 (the story) was the sequel to Alien, but it wasn't it was the sequel to Aliens & it was really disappointing. Going from hundreds of Aliens to some lame ass dog Alien?

Also, I really hate how they just killed of the 3 survivors of the Aliens in the opening credits. If they died during the film, I'd be fine with that but they didn't.

I think their official reasons were to "go back to the mystery of one alien" by introducing a creature that was all different and special and acted differently. Needless to say, they failed miserably. Everything the alien does in this movie was already done in the first two. And it's fugly to boot.

Yeah, why a dog/ox (I think the ox was for the special edition) instead of a more deadly animal? I think if they used an animal like a cougar or bear, then it would made the Alien even more hostile. That would of been interesting.

I don't think they allow prisoners to have pet bears.

You think Twilight is a good movie. Your opinion is irrelevant. :awesome:

In regards to the Queen Alien gestating, it took longer for 2 reasons:

1) Ripley was pretty banged up by the crash of the EEV. This is commented in the film when Clemens tell her that "coming out of hypersleep the way you did was quite a shock to your system." To which Ripley replies, "Yeah I'll be sick for a couple of weeks." Later in the film, Ripley tells Clemens that "she has a soar throat, sick to her stomach."

2) Ripley was on medication/antibotics. Again referencing the film when Clemens offers Ripley a drink she declines by saying she's on medication, which Clemens replies, "Hardly." Later when the alien attacks Clemens, he give her one of his "special" cocktails, which was probably antibotics.

After Clemens is killed, Ripley no longer is getting medication and that is when the Queen begins to gestate more rapidly, but still slower because of the meds still being in her system.

Wouldn't it take longer because it is a Queen as well? I can imagine a Queen taken longer to gestate or whatever.

How did the facehugger get on the ship in the first place? Was that adequately explained? The Queen didn't have her reproductive sac.

I think it's assumed that she took one with her when she knew she was leaving the Hive.

So I watched the third film. It was alright. It was well made in most aspects. It could of been alot better. I'll post a review in the last movie watched thread.

Did you watch the theatrical or assembly cut?

After the mess of a production Alien 3 had, the film didn't turn out as bad as many make it out to be, in my opinion.

Despite what the opening text tells you for the extended cut of Alien 3, it is not an assembly cut for these two reasons:

1. An assembly cut is the first cut of the film where you include everything shot from the script. Hence, "assembly".

2. In the making of doc, it is claimed the first cut of Alien 3 was 3 hours long.

Just noticed this thread, I was, and still am, a hiuge Alien fan. I hat the AVP movies so much, but love the first two, like the third, and tolerate the forth.

My creative writting class in College, i did a spec script for a Alien reboot, ala, Superman Returns, that all but ignores the 3rd and 4th film.

I don't have the doc. on me right now, but it was a really good story I came up with, one that would make any fan of the first two, specially the second glee with joy.

Basically it starts off with Ripley dreaming again, basically the end of Alien Resurection. She wakes up, covered in sweat, she cries. A nurse comes in, and basically ripley realizes that it was a dream, that she's back at the Weyland Yutani space station (the place in Aliens), but she isn't in the medical wing, she's in the holding cell. She gains her composure, and asks what happens. The nurse leaves, but then two military officers enter. They tell her that they were picked up two weeks ago, and that she's been in and out the last couple days, but the hypersleep effects should wear off shortly.

She asks were Hicks, and Newt are. The military officers tell her that they are fine, but she will be unable to see them at the moment, due to her, and Hicks being under arrest for planetary genocide. They are being charged with the destrcuction of the colonial base on LV-426, which included a count of almost 180 colionist, and the entire space marine crew that her and hicks were with. Ripley, not beleiving them, tries to get out of bed, but soon realizes there is a clear cell around her she didn't notice at first.

Ten years later, Hicks is at a prison somewhere on the west coast of the Old United States. It's an long island, that once used to be part of California, before the fault line erruption of 2012. It has been made into a prison, of course owned by Weyland Yutani. Hicks hears some camotion coming from the prison guards, some of the guards are leaving aruptly, while others start loading their guns. the guards then go up to the cells were the inmates are being held, and they are executing them. Hicks, not knowing what is going on, starts looking around his cell for something, anyting to try and stop the guards, because they are making their way down the isle, and killing all the prisoners. He pulls the top off his toliet and puts it under his shirt. The guards come up to his cell, open the door, shoot hicks, he falls back.

A flashback happens. Hicks is on trial with Ripley. They are explaining why the colonial base exploided, and how Weyland Yutani caused the whole incident. They are declaired insane by the military tribunal, which you see on their sleeves, are run by Weyland Yutani. Hicks and Ripley are seperated, and taken away. Later, Hicks is approached by their lawyer, his old friend Spence, who went through basic with him, but became a military deffense attorney. Hicks asks him what's to become of him, Spence says that he's suprised the judge ruled against executuon, that right now he is to spend 100 life terms in a prison back on earth. Hicks laugh at the 100 life terms part, and responds "100 life terms? what are the going to do, keep my dead body in a cell for 1000 years?"

Sepnce tells him, there are other options for you. It doesn't have to end this way, you know? Hicks shakes his head, and says "What of the girl"... Spence tells him that Newt will be put in a government monitored orphanage, and undergo extreme pyscho therapy to erase her memory of what happened back on LV-426.

Hicks wakes up, he she's a beatiful women over him, wipping the sweet off his forehead. She tells him to calm down, he was having a bad dream, that everything is okay, for now. He sees that he is still in the prison, just in a medical station. the windows shutters are shut, and welded down. He looks around and see's a few other wounded inmates, as well as a handful of guards, who look terrified. One of the guards ask's him "you used to be military, correct? You know how to handle what's going on, right?"

As a fan of Alien and Aliens, I was extremely disappointed by Fincher's Alien 3, and I wonder what might have been if Cameron had not quitted the franchise and got the opportunity to continue the story of Ripley, Col. Hicks, and that little orphan girl. Instead, we got an asylum full of bald-headed inmates and a dog alien. Alien 3 and X-Men 3 are two of the biggest "what might have been?" disappointments in the cinematic history.

the cliff notes

-the lady taking care of Hicks is a nurse, she tells him about the news reports the last month.... people disapearing in the north (former Canada)... men, women, children, animals.... reports of citys just turning into ghost towns.
-the government then, just dissapears. The world goes under military control, but the leaders are no where to be found. Military units are going rogue and taking control of towns.
-the prison they were in, two weeks ago, the prison facility manager tells all thh guards and employees that they are now ordered to leave the prison, that they need to go home to their families. He orders a mass execution of all the prisoners Everyone is confused, some, fearing what's going on, decide to stay. The nurse, who was just recently married, decides to stay to treat the wounded prisoners, she called her husband, tells him to come to prison in fear of what's happening, feeling being locked in a maximum security prison is the safest option. He never showed up.
-Hicks, trying to doubt, what he already knows is happening, decided that the best course of action is for him to try and contact Spence. He takes a few guards, and prisoners with him, and they go through the prison, trying to get to the communications tower. There are no lights, and they are lightly armed, the guards with rifles and shotguns, the prisoners armed with broom handles and knives. They make their way to the communications tower, with NO incident, Hicks tries to contact Spence, after a few attempts, and he finally locates the base were Spence is located, Spence, suprised to hear Hicks, tells him that they new, they all knew what happened at LV-426, but what were they supposed to do? WY wanted this beast, and they run everything... your only choice is to go along.. Hicks asks him what he is talking about, Spence tells him their best option is suicide, that they couldn't control it. Hicks, closing his eyes, his fear being realized. Hicks asks Spence if he could rescue them from teh prison, pick them up somehow, Spence says "who will save us"... end of communications
-Hicks asks the guards what their options are. Most do not want to leave, feeling it's the safest place. He finds out though, that there still a chance that there is a vehicle or two in the holding bay on the other side of the prison, but it's not going to do them any good.
-Hicks, along with some Prisoners, the nurse, and two guards decide to go to the bay, and see what their options are there. A bunch of the guards decide to stay behind. As they start on their way, the nurse realizes that if the prison is in lockdown mode, like it is now, none of the cards work, and doors will remain shut, someone needs to go to the control room, stay there, and open the doors as they make their way through the prison. Hicks volunteers to do it, but they need him to operate a helicopter or shuttle if there is one, so the Nurse decides to make her way there, and open the doors as they make their way.
- Of course, now the Aliens enter the picture... picking off crew as they make their way through. As they make their way to the doors, the buzz in on the intercom, and the Nurse opens the door for them.
- they finally make their way to the bay, and discover one helicopter left. There are only 4 left, Hicks, one guard, and two inmates. Hicks tells the nurse to trace their steps and come to them. She tells them she can't. He asks why, she holds down the speak button, he can hear a thumping sound, the aliens are at the control room door. She tells them to go ahead without her, she wishes them luck, Hicks then hears a scream... then silence...
-They make their way off the island, only to discover that the prison was the safest place, the main land is overrun, cars abondoned, houses on fire.... giant building converted into nesting areas..... the world has officially ended.
- He contacts Spence, Spence is suprised they are still alive. He tells them to meet themoutside a small town in Montana.... he will help them out. They fly there, and Spence gives them all uniforms, and clearance cards for the base he is stationed at.
- The base is huge, it's a giant metal dome. Inside, the last reminents of the West coast.
- Aliens attack the base, huge battle, the Aliens are breaking in. Hicks, along with Spence and a few others make their way to an escape shuttle. It was meant for the military commander if all else failed. But, the commander was taken by the invading Aliens. Spence, Hicks, and a few other military personal escape. The shuttle is on auto-pilot. It takes them to the Weyland Yutani's new base of operations, the moon.
- They get their, and they are greated as heros for escaping, but a retnal scan idnetifys Hicks as a convict. They call over for their permission to execute, but it's denied, telling them to touch Hicks.
- Hicks is taken into custody, and placed again, in a holding cell. The door opens, and in walks Ripley. Hicks, estatic to see her, but confused, asks her, what's going on. She responds, what we feared, what we feared, she starts crying. Hicks tells her "it's not your fault, we warned them, we tried to stop them"... she shakes her head "I just wanted to be a mother, these things took away my daughter, I wasn't going to let them take away Newt, it's my weakness, my desire to save a life, destroyed so much more"
-Hicks asks her what she means, turns out, the deal Hicks turned down, Ripley took. They offered her a chance at a normal life, with Newt, but, only if she helps them.
- She showed them were the derelict spacecraft was located, she adivsed them about their life cycle... she was their when they took the remaining eggs off of LV-426... she was there when they impregnated the first humans. She did it all to be with Newt.....
