What if the ALIEN franchise had gone differently?

I try not to dwell on the "what if's" of movies but this one really does make me go crazy as to what could of been.

Alien 3 is overrated. It's a sh**ty version of Alien.

I actually enjoyed Alien Resurrection, but the Alien Hybrid creature ruined it for me.

Alien Resurrection had only one good thing about it (and it definitely wasn't a 50 year old Ripley clone :o).

I would shag the crap out of that robot.

She looks like a boy there. :o

Please. She has her hair short. This isn't 1910. Some girls look good with short hair. Winona is one of them. I'd take her over old, weathered Ripley (or any of the Prometheus chicks for that matter) any day.

Definitely. Charlize doesn't have those huge Lincoln penny eyes that Winona has. Plus she cops a major attitude in the film.

Some guys dig that, but *****y attitudes are a major turn-off for me. I'm sure Theron is a sweetheart in real life, but I felt nothing for her character Vickers except contempt.

*****y attitudes aren't my cup of tea either. I didn't like Vickers at all either but I don't think anyone liked her.

I thought she was alright. She was meant to be unlikeable. She's not a love interest. She was playing a role.

I have never found Winona Ryder attractive except in Edward Scissorhands. She looks much better as a blonde.

I thought she looked great in the '90s in movies like Bram Stoker's Dracula and Little Women. Yes, even A:R. Too bad after the theft stuff she dropped off the face of the Earth other than a cameo in Black Swan from what I can tell.

The one reason why she dropped off the planet (besides personal problems) was that Girl, Interrupted was suppose to be her shining moment of glory. Instead, it made Angelina Jolie into a mega star.

Wow, I've just realized I've never actually seen Alien 3 all the way through. I have bits of memories of it, but that's about it.

Winona looked better as a goth in Beetlejuice but then again I just rewatched that today.

I notice that many seem to love the early scripts of Alien 3, however, all of them, exept the first one that was supposed to be shot back-to-back with Alien 4 had Hick, Newt and Bishop dieing, wich was one of the main controversies about the film, even the script that had a wooden planet had Ripley as the sole survivor.

The thing that spoiled Alien 3 for me was the characters. They were just so bland...I can't even remember who they were. I was actually hoping the xenomorphs would kill them off faster.

I remember them more than the marines from Aliens

Are you kidding? I remember the core marines easily. Like...the chick with the big gun, the dude was who always panicing "We're all gonna die man!! GAME OVER!!" the guy in charge...ok yeah, that's all I can remember..haha

From the Marines i only remember the chick with the gun, and Hicks because he survived, and i watched that film many times, while with Alien 3 i only watched it once and i remember the guy that created a bond with ripley and was killed, he was kinda cool, the priest with the glasses, and i remember one afraid prisioner, but i only watched the film once and it was some time ago. But it's probably because the marine characters have since become cliches, and marines with the behavior of the ones from Aliens were used so much that nowadays i think most seem bland

Well, I can see what you're saying but I think Aliens as a whole, and the characters that left an impression on you, was just a masterstroke. It was a well made film. It's different from Alien, but it's one of the most influenical ACTION sci-fi movies, so no one can disregard it.

Alien 3 wasn't made by a fully matured and controlled Fincher. And while the characters seem more memorable to you, the film itself was a beautiful mess. You can feel the behind the scenes troubles by just watching the film. I liked what I could have been, but for what it was, it's an extremely flawed but beautiful film.

The only character (besides Ripley) I recall from "Alien 3" is Charles Dance, because it's bloody Charles Dance. All the other characters, even great Pete Postlewaite(sp?) are interchangeable and all look and sound the same. They're boring. "Aliens" may have cardboard cutouts for characters but they're all played broadly and are fun. Hicks, Hudson (who doesn't love Bill Paxton's over the top delivery), Bishop, sleazy businessman, cliché sarcastic black drill sergeant, tough hispanic chick, etc.

Okay, their names aren't all memorable, but their personalities are. Even though "Alien 3" is better than AR, it has the least memorable set of characters in the series.

I agree that Alien 3 was better than AR.

What would have lessen Alien 3's bad rep, was not to kill Hicks and Newt off screen like that. The movie is now infamous for that (for the wrong reasons), and the unclose shot of the Alien and Ripley.
