What is the scariest movie of all time...

Sitting alone and watching possesion/demon or ghost movies is freaky as hell.

WEll to each its own everyone has different things that scares them. I have known people who also don't think the exorcist is scary, to me is the contrary, its intense realism sense of dread and atmosphere scares me quite a bit, linda blairs performance is amazing specialy for her age at the time. The opening credit scene with the red etxt and the chanting etc always scares the crap out of me. The scenes of regan's mother in the atic with the noise of the devil creeping around malisiously is really atmospheric. The scene of regans head spin just creeps me out in a way no other scene in a horror film has.

When I was in grade school, the various kind of horror films would scare me when I stayed up late and watched them on USA.

Then I eventually realized that the movies were just that- a movie. The actors and actresses playing the characters weren't killed in various ways, or possessed by "the devil" or give birth to a thing that ate people.

So now, the "scary movies" are just entertainment to me.

The scariest part of The Exorcist for me was the scene they cut out - the spider walk.

The Exorcist dosen't scare me at all (I'm an athiest). I believe that Demonic Possession is really just an undiagnosed case of an extremely severe mental disorder. You can't blame the people who made it though, the film was based on a book made during a time (the 1950's) in which severe mental disorders weren't understood as well as they are today (because of better technology).

Alien is so not scary.. It has no elements of thrills or chills. It's just a really damn good sci-fi movie.

i tend to agree 'aliens' isn't THAT scary, but having said that its one of my favorite movies of all time.... GAME OVER MAN! GAME OVER!

btw, here's a pic of my Halloween costume from two years ago:

I went as Ripley in the Powerloader... I hope that's obvious.

Ps: My friend went as Gene from 'Wet Hot American Summer'

I thought so. Both costumes look good.

LOL @ the Ripley doll, that costume is awesome.:up:

The Exorcist. For MONTHS I was seeing that white demon face every time I closed my eyes at night. *shudder*

ALIENS is not scary, Alien is

Yea well I think that was the point really. Cameron didn't wanted to do the same film as ridley did so aliens was supposed to be more of a sci-fi action film as opposed to alien which was sci-fi horror. So I would say that aliens does not fall in the scary movie or horror movie category as alien does.

it seems that the exorcist and Halloween seem to be the two most popular choices with some TCM shout outs too

for me its no question Halloween

Excorsit lakes the one quality Halloween dominates at, bringing the fear home, I grew up on a street very similar to Haddonfield, infact I would be most people did, its standard suburbia, Micheal could be the neighboorhood creep, or he could be the boogeyman in our closets that we all feared as kids

for me:
the exorcist is a nightmare
but Halloween is a tangible reality thus imo making it the scarier

Eh..Alien just contains nothing that scares me. Of all the choices so far it's the one I least agree with.

Then Texas Chainsaw Massacre. The original is just silly, not scary at all.

there's is an argument to be made that the remake of 'house of wax' is the scariest movie ever, but for all the wrong reasons.

speaking of wax, anyone else remember 'waxworks' from the 80's... ******ed, but awesome.

I actually liked this movie. Like a B-Horror movie of course, but it's pretty good.

Apparently there are sequels to it. I never seen any of them though.
