I thought I would pose this question since recently somebody asked about Pixar. I thought this question would be interesting if you leave off Pixar/Disney all together Cause if you include Pixar you got your usual Toy Story Incredibles etc and with Disney you got the Lion King, Aladdin Little Mermaid and some others.

Here is mine

How to Train Ur Dragon 1 and 2.
Kubo and the Two Strings
The Iron Giant
Secret of Nimh
Coraline
Spirted Away
The Land Before Time (The First One)

So if you can list ur best Animated movies that is not Disney or Pixar.

In no particular order:

How to Train Your Dragon
How to Train Your Dragon 2
Shrek
Shrek 2
The Lego Movie
Yellow Submarine
The Iron Giant
The Simpsons Movie
South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut
The Land Before Time
Batman: Mask of the Phantasm

It's a lot easier to list when you take Disney out of the equation.

The Nightmare Before Christmas (debatable whether it counts as Disney)
Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within
The Transformers: The Movie
Kung Fu Panda
9
Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children
Kung Fu Panda 2

My top three minus Pixar and Disney are all DC animated movies;

1. Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox
2. Batman: Mask of the Phantasm
3. Wonder Woman

The Nightmare Before Christmas (debatable whether it counts as Disney)
Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within
The Transformers: The Movie
Kung Fu Panda
9
Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children
Kung Fu Panda 2
How is this debatable? Disney knows the rights. It was produced by a Disney film label (Touchstone Pictures) and disturbed by Buena Vista (Original name for Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures).

I thought 9 was a very Underrated movie people forget about.

I still count Nightmare beore Christmas as a Disney movie just cause Orginally it was Disney that started to develop it.

Some more that just came to mind

Fantastic Mr. Fox
Shrek 2
Watership Down

What? Do people not know who made the movie? Its a Disney movie, in every way any Pixar or Disney Animated Studios film is.

I know Im saying it is a Disney movie. Tim Burton actually wrote a Poem of Nightmare before Christmas at that time he was a Disney Animator. Anyway back to what this thread should be about non disney/pixar animated movies.

The Nightmare Before Christmas (debatable whether it counts as Disney)

While it was originally a Touchstone release, which was owned by Disney, then once it got popular Disney plastered Jack and Sally all over the place, I'd consider it to be Disney for sure.

Iron Giant
Land Before Time
All Dogs Go To Heaven
Titan AE
Fantastic Mr Fox
Rise of the Guardians
South Park
Dexters Lab: Ego Trip
Tintin
Pagemaster
Wallace & Gromit: Wrong Trousers

How To Train Your Dragon 1 & 2
Anastasia
Princess Mononoke (and pretty much all Studio Ghibli films)
All Dogs go to Heaven
An American Tail
The Land Before Time
The Last Unicorn
Shrek 1 & 2

1. Spirited Away -- touching, exciting, imaginative.

2. Only Yesterday -- a deep, humane examination of how the past remains with us always and how we can overcome that.

3. My Neighbor Totoro -- a fantasy slice of life that is completely persuasive.

4. Grave of the Fireflies -- brutal without sentimentality, yet beautiful

5. Princess Mononoke -- a great environmental message with a superb adventure story that (mostly) sees the humanity in evil.

The Kung Fu Panda Trilogy is underrated I think.

The Last Unicorn is so... Pure. (Still... I want to see a remake.)

9 was a great dark film.

ParaNorman seems to have slipped through the cracks for some reason.

An American Tail is undeniable.

I still enjoy Heavy Metal... With or without chemical enhancements.

Charlotte's Web from 1973.

Iron Giant of course.

I can't wait to finish the How To Train Your Dragon trilogy.

A Flight Of Dragons.

Brave Little Toaster.

Fantastic Mr. Fox is... I adore that movie. Maybe my second favorite Anderson film.

Kubo is making it's way into my heart as well the more I watch it.

the last one on your list was the first film that I thought of.

The Secret of NIMH is one of my favorite animated movies ever. Other good ones:

How to Train a Dragon
The Iron Giant
The Land Before Time
South Park: BLU
The Prince of Egypt
Fantastic Mr. Fox
The Nightmare Before Christmas

The Land Before Time
Little Nemo: Adventures in Slumberland
The Iron Giant
Shrek
Madagascar trilogy
Mr. Peabody & Sherman
Coraline
The Lego Batman Movie

The Snowman, without a shadow of a doubt. It is a definitive animated film for me for very personal resonance.

Ooh, nice choice. Forgot about that one. Loved watching that around Christmastime as a kid. Beautuful music.

Do the Fleischer Superman count?

I remember a few beautiful either Czech or Russian stop-motion I saw and loved as a kid, have to look up the names.

Vampiros en La Habana LOL! Love that movie.

Watership Down

Filmation gets a bad rep, but their 82 Flash Gordon Greatest Adventurer television film was great.

Bakshi's 83 Fire and Ice, I liked the idea of it trying to capture Frazzeta's style in an animated fantasy tale, more then the actual execution.

Akira

Mask of the Phantasm

Iron Giant

Corto Maltese: And The Secret Court of the Arcanes

Loved Totoro and Princess Mononoke

The Book of Life (yeah Coco kind of overshadows it)

Fantastic Mr. Fox

Kubo

I’m definitely enjoying a 90s animated film fest at the moment. So many goodies lost to the annals of time!

My top 5 would probably be:

How To Train Your Dragon 2
Spirited Away
The Secret of NIMH
How to Train Your Dragon
All Dogs Go To Heaven
