What JL comic plotlines would you prefer (or believe) WB's JL to draw from

Do you believe the rumors that the script revolves around the OMAC storyline-- would you prefer it be built around some other series or combination of series?

I'm fairly certain the board will want some elements of Batman vs Superman to bleed through no matter who the arch villain is.

Without a script, noone can claim to know 100% what the plot of the film is-- and it may yet go back to the drawing board for years while The Man of Steel is made.

There are nothing but rumors on who will be cast in the film, what heroes will even be appearing, and what threat has been selected.

I'd like to see them tackle Darkseid, but knowing Hollywood's record on coping another film's success i'd bet WB go with the OMACS due to their robotic nature and Transformers success.

Darkseid.

But I guess we'll have to wait for the sequel for that.

Themewise: KINGDOM COME, THE NAIL, TOWER OF BABEL, and anything Grant Morrison and Mark Waid wrote. But themewise, not storywise.

Brave and the Bold JLA1, or Morrisons first arc. Including the supermullet.

Am I the only one who thinks Starro is kind stupid and cheesy? I mean, I like the "nostalgia" aspect of the character, but as an actual character or story...

Well, if you lived in a society where you were all giant starfishes and thats all you ever saw or thought about was giant starfishes, but you went to the movies one time and heard about a buncha 'humans' running around, what would you say?

It's interesting that everything from superheroes is considered "cheesy" or "campy" these days except the most violent characters.

Even the xenomorphs from Alien would be considered cheesy if they came from comics.

:ninja:

I don't think it's campy, I just think it's a bit much. I like Starro, in context. In the original comics, which had an air of "fun" to them, it was a "fun" threat for the league to defend Earth against, and there's a bit of a threat to Grant Morrison's version as well.

But there's not much in terms of character or story potential. Starro has no personality to speak of, no interesting motivations. It's another "hive-mind" villain, and frankly, those get boring to me fast. Why would anyone want THAT for the villain in a JLA movie when there are so many villains who DO have interesting personalities and motivations and schemes?

And yeah, a lot from comics is cheesy. Cheesy isn't always bad. But if you want a remotely serious JLA film, then you need a villain who can be taken seriously. An extraterrestrial villain who happens to look like a giant starfish? Not so much.

the white Martians, its the easiest way for the group together, same idea as the opening eps of the toon. sadly no MM so i guess its knida mute idea

well, why could a movie not have a lot of "fun" in it? Comic fans have a complex about this. Nowadays they want all so serious because of their image in the public. A movie about costumed heroes and to make it uber-serious is just madness. It makes things even more ridiculous.

I desperately hope they will make a light and bright film instead of a dark, depressed one.

I think he meant, why waste screen time and budget on something like Starro, when you can go to a much better villain? even the OMACS are better. And I don't even think Starro is campy, I just think it would be a waste.

I'm fine with OMACs for the first movie.

I would definitely like to see Darkseid in the second, though.

Exactly.

It can. There's no reason a JLA movie can't have darker, more serious elements and bright, fun, hopeful ones as well. In fact, a serious threat makes those hopeful, bright themes and elements all the more powerful.

I never said I wanted JLA to be uber-serious. I'm fine if there are some lighter tones to it. But there need to be some serious elements, or you risk it devolving into camp.

I seriously doubt they'll make a dark and depressing JLA. I don't think anyone wants that.

I like you now :cwink:

It's just that there are so many people out there, the first thing when they hear "comic book movie" is to scream "oh, i hope they make it darrrk, grrrity and serious".

Justice League, Spider-Man, Superman & co. are not here to be dark.

When I heard WB was inspired by Transformers I didn't even think-- robot; I was just seeing a group film. I like your reading of their motive.

Man! what a wonderful set-up SR could have given Justice League if Doomsday appeared at the end to kill Superman.
That scene would have been a perfect prelude for the opening scene to JLA.
