Now that the trilogy is complete, we can look back at it, and see what worked, and what we would have liked to have seen different.
This really isn't meant for bashing. I love all 3 movies. In my opinion, this is a great trilogy.
But adapting 40 years worth of material in to 3 movies, there's inherently going to be some flaws. So here is a post of what I would have liked to have seen done differently, and a place for you to post the same. Hopefully, this can remain civil, and not turn into a Ratner bash fest, Singer bash fest, Kinberg & Penn bash fest, X-Men: The Last Stand bash fest, or any kind of bash fest.
What I would have liked to have seen play out differently (in order of importance in my view):
01. Cyclops would not die (X-Men: The Last Stand)
-I think the movie could have been amazingly powerful emotionally if Cyclops actually wasn't killed at the lake like Jean and the X-Men assumed. He could return around the time of Xavier's funeral. After learning what Jean did to Xavier, Cyclops would know that Jean isn't the same, and that she needs to be saved. It'd be him visiting Xavier's memorial stone, not Wolverine. Jean would call to Cyclops, not Wolverine. And Cyclops would go to the woods to find her, not Wolverine. In the final battle, it would be Cyclops marching up to stop Jean, not Wolverine. And the lines in response to Phoenix's "You're willing to die for them" would come from Cyclops:
"No, not them. You. I love you"
And then Jean would take over long enough for Cyclops to optic rage the **** out of Jean, killing her, but saving her at the same time. It'd be Cyclops holding Jean in his arms, not Wolverine.
02. Gambit (X-Men: The Last Stand)
-With all of the mutants added, I think there would have been perfect room for Gambit. Have Gambit as a prisoner on the convoy that Magneto frees. He'd join along with the Brotherhood, hanging around in the background. He'd be with the "big dogs" during Magneto's speech in the woods, and on the bridge in the final battle. He could go along with Quill, Arclight, and Psylocke to find Warren Worthington, where Gambit would realize they are probably going to far. After Worthington was tossed over the ledge and Angel saved him, Gambit could duke it out with Quill, Psylocke, and Arclight (also giving a nice scene for Psylocke to showcase her Psi-Blade). And he WOULDN'T be demolecularized by Phoenix. He wouldn't be seen. His fate would be left open like Pyro's.
03. Lady Deathstrike would have a past with Wolverine (X2: X-Men United)
-It's not the comic version, but I really liked Logan & Yuriko's backstory in the animated series, where they were former lovers. Stryker mentioned that Wolverine volunteered for the procedure... he would have left Yuriko in the process. Is it a bit extreme? Yes... but Yuriko would have felt betrayed by Wolverine's actions, and went to William Stryker to have the procedure done to her, so she could kill Wolverine. Then she wouldn't have to be controlled to fight Wolverine (which angered me), but at the same time, wouldn't have shown that Stryker is willing to use mutants for his own personal gain. So it would change the story somewhat.
04. Angel would join the team (X-Men: The Last Stand)
-When Angel arrives at the X-Mansion, he soon overhears the X-Men talking about how Magneto is going to attack Alcatraz, and how they are going to go to stop him. Instead of appearing out of nowhere, like he did, Angel would approach the X-Men, explaining that his father is the creator of the cure, and he needs to go to help his father, so something doesn't happen. Storm would give Angel a uniform, and Angel would go into the final battle as a member of the X-Men. Essentially, his role in the final battle would remain just saving his father. But with this, we can see Angel as a member of the X-Men, we could see him kicking a couple mutant asses in the process, and then he could save his father, when the time was right. Back at the mansion, perhaps he could decide that his home was somewhere else (perhaps with his father, to help enlighten him on the mutant situation), and he'd leave. Or, he could have found a home there (since he did willingly go to the school), and he'd stay, as a new addition to the X-Men.
05. Allude to a history between Wolverine & Sabretooth (X-Men)
-I understand that Sabretooth is really just a henchman. And I've no problem with that. But there should have been some reference to his history with Wolverine. A reason why they were rivals. It would have added some richness, I believe.

Overall, I believe that these movies got the X-Men right. From the first frame of X-Men, to the last frame of X-Men: The Last Stand, I am throuroghly satisfied with the way the X-Men were translated to the big screen. But with that said, those were the few things that I would have changed.
Oh well, either way, each film works in bringing these characters to life the way they should have been, and each slight deviation (the word "slight" does not refer to the death of Cyclops, as that is a MAJOR deviation) does help to make the movies better (in terms of movie storytelling).
Although I do feel that having Angel join the team would have been better movie storytelling, as it would have explained why he was there, given fans of Angel a chance to actually see him fight with the X-Men, and given payoff to the character who had a very powerful flashback introduction. It would have helped to conclude his character development / character arc.
