What Makes a Hero?

A hero is made in the moment by the choices that he makes and the reasons that he makes them. A hero brings out the best in people.

All this talk about a true hero being completely selfless etc, baloney, it sounds like comic books have melted people's brains when they say that, get real folks.
Everyone who ever lived in the whole frickin universe, has had some sort of selfish motive for any good deed they have done, even if it is just because they want the world to be a better place so their life is the better for it.
People are complicated, they are not some 2D drawing in a book.

A hero is someone who doesn't let himself go crazy no matter how much sh** the bad guys throw at him/her.
Just like that stuff in the big Kipling poem, about how you just keep your head down and keep trying to do what you feel is the right thing to do, even if everyone around you is wrong about you, and making things harder for you as a result.
Endurance, courage, keeping ahold of yourself in the face of overwhelming opposition and nigh impossible odds and problems, these are all heroic traits that actually help get the job done.
Anyone who acts like they are 'selfless' etc, is a false prophet, everyone benefits somehow, including the hero, from their acts.
