Itunes has been giving me trouble. Songs keep ending early/getting skipped. So Im trying to find a new music player for my PC.

I like Spotify but I cant add files directly into it and edit art work. Im still hoping Google launches a desktop music player this year.

Anyway long story short, other than iTunes Spotify or Windows Media Player, what do you use?

Winamp is hands down the best, they have the best codecs and its an all around pleasure to use. They also have tons of skins so you can customize it how you like. You can trust me, I'm a DJ ;)

Windows Media but that's just because I'm too lazy to look for something else.

After years of fustration with iTunes lack of cross compatibility I just download music from Amazon now.

I have music on Amazon but don't use it. There's also my local library's website.

Primarily, Spotify.

The only problem you may run into when switching players from ITunes is DRM. If you bought your music through iTunes it may not let you use the files in other players due to said DRM. Don't let this dissuade you from switching though because there other means to go about ensuring you have the files you want and if you need help with that let me know

SO Ive been using Winamp for about 2 weeks. And I like it but I have a few questions.
1) Is there a way I can import single mp3 files without dragging and dropping them from my "My Music". Not a deal breakers but I kind of just want whatever files are added to My Music to automatically be uploaded to Winamp.
2) Is there a way to change the views of playlist? When I move files to a playlist, there is only a "Title" column, and all the files read in this order "Artist Name-Song"?
For example:
2gwrpee.png

And it wont let me add more columns.

I mostly use Xbox Music, but occasionally I revert back to Windows Media Player. I also use Spotify and Songza sometimes, but not a lot as I can only use those online.

I'm sure you can do all that stuff, I'll look it up when I get home. As far as Apple bricking it there was a lawsuit that specifically keeps Apple from screwing up people's devices so I doubt it would be a problem as long as your software is current

The easiest way would be to create a new .m3u playlist in the folder with just a period/fullstop as the one-and-only entry.

When double-clicked (or rt-click > play/enqueue in winamp), all files in that folder will be added to Winamp's Playlist Editor.

Or, if you would prefer to have all your playlists in one 'Playlists' folder
then the one-and-only line in the .m3u should be the path to the folder, eg.
X:\Path\To\Music\Folder

If the old broken playlist is made up of files from loads of different folders, then the only way I know of fixing it is to load the playlist file into any Text Editor (Notepad++ recommended) and use the Find+Replace feature.

There's also probably a plugin out there which attempts to do his automatically.
I remember trying one a while back, but it didn't seem to work...

http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?t=271235

found this on the winamp forums, since I don't have an ipod I'm not used to trying to do things with them but I would imagine you could find a ton of knowledgeable folks there for all your winamp needs

Anyway, goto:
Prefs -> Input -> MPEG Audio plugin -> Configure -> Title tab.

ID3 Title Formatting:
Default = %1 - %2 {ID3 Artist + Title}

You can use this format, but will need to edit the ID3 tag for each file to suit your preferred taste.
To do this, hi-lite each individual track in the Playlist Editor,
rt. click -> select: File Info (Hotkey = Alt + 3)

However, you probably want to change Title Formatting to something like:
%7.%9
This will make the Playlist display the Filename & Extension only, eg. file.mp3

Or maybe you want to totally disable the display of ID3 Tags?
In which case, uncheck "Use ID3 Tags"

This will then force Winamp to just display the ordinary title formatting.
Default value = %7 (filename only)
You can also change this to: %7.%9

All available parameters are listed in the plugin's config

You can then goto :
Playlist Ed -> Misc Opt button -> Sort -> Sort list by filename.

If for some reason you're still not happy, you may even want to goto :
Prefs -> Options
Checkmark "Sort Files" & "Read Titles" on Load !?!?

Again from the winamp forums. That's probably going to be your best place for getting specific info about doing stuff with the ipod there

Foobar for past couple of years as Winamp went bloated when AOL took over.

They also have tons of skins so you can customize it how you like.

I keep a small choir of schoolchildren chained in my house and have them perform at my whim.

Nothing beats live shows.
