What should Marvel do with Bucky?

Bucky becoming Captain America was a great storyline. It was the first time I ever picked up a Captain America comic regularly. The whole Commander Rogers/Bucky Cap era could have lasted forever as far as I'm concerned, but I'm fine with Steve back as Cap. He is Cap. I will never be as interested in Steve/Cap book as a Bucky one though. I cannot wait for the new Winter Soldier series.

Me too, i never picked up Cap before until Bucky starting coming into the role. I feel like there is still so much untold story potential of Bucky being Captain America, but alas, its Brubaker's story.

He could just be Bucky. Just James Buchanan Barnes, a total badass doing total badass spy stuff, beating the crap out of Russian super soldiers and just gernally being awesome. I think he's at a point in his career where he's the kind of character who doesn't really need a costume or a code name to be able to carry his own weight in a super hero universe.
Yeah, I bet this is what they will do. Like Nick Fury or something. Only Bucky (the name everyone knows him for) doesn't really strike fear or sound as dangerous as Fury. Even Bucky Barnes doesn't work so well. Maybe James Barnes (sounds like James Bond), but most people don't know that name. Guess he could still go by Winter Soldier in name only, for at least the title of his comic or when Marvel wants to advertise him, but not costume or mask and stuff. But without his mask its hard to tell who he is, like when Cap and Hawkeye are unmasked its hard to tell them apart. So maybe he keeps his diamond mask as his only real costume, plus his robot arm.
I just thought it sounded fun to see some character sketches of Bucky as a new version of Citizen V or US Agent.
I mean its not like he has to look just like them either. Maybe just wear the diamond mask, still have his robot arm exposed, but not for his shirt its the US Agent logo or maybe he has Citizen V shoulder pads. And know instead of being refereed to as the Winter Soldier by people he is called Citizen V or US Agent. Would that be too drastic if Marvel did that? I can't see them making him dress up completely like another character, but I can see some minor changes to his Winter Soldier costume.

He should not be USAgent....Walker will come back to it in due time........

He could just be James Barnes, but if he's wandering around searching our other Winter Soldiers.....and he feels he needs a costumed Identity then I think the perfect choice would be Nomad

.....with an updated costume

I do like the Nomad idea, mostly because he could call himself Nomad without really changing his Winter Soldier costume at all.

These are the types of small changes I meant for him to become the new US Agent. Something like this:

Or how about this, same costume as when he was Captain America (which everyone loved) but no mask but the small diamond one, and no shield:

I have other ideas too I am working on.

I really really dig that US Agent costume Artistean. That would be a perfect new look for bucky.

Agreed.

That actually is pretty cool.

Thanks, just an idea of how he could be the new US Agent with minor changes. Not to take Walker's costume. But to become his own character. Originally the US Agent costume was Cap's. So why not let Bucky make it his own.
Here is another quickly photoshopped idea.
Bucky as Citizen V. Imagine if Citizen V reappeared, like he usually does. no one is sure who it is behind the mask. Eventually its discovered that its Bucky.

As I was making this, I was just going to do another Winter Soldier with minor changes like the shoulder pads and purple, but without the mask he sort of looked like the Watchmen's Comedian. I thought, maybe he can be Marvel's Comedian, but no. So I added the mask, and came up with the idea that when he returns from his covert Winter Soldier missions he might take a costume that covers his whole face to keep his face secret from everyone, even his friends.
He could also hide out as Ronin, like Echo did and like Hawkeye did.

I liked the U.S. Agent version either.

Not that I think Bucky should call himself that, but the modification of his Winter Soldier garb to resemble it as you shopped looked cool.

I am sure Marvel has a plan and I may be way off, but it seems like he can't really go back to being Captain America or the Winter Soldier, even if to him the Winter Soldier is more of a code name and not a superhero identity or something. But what would he do after he finishes his mission? (A mission I am sure Marvel can drag out for a few years maybe)? Maybe he can take up another identity like US Agent, or Patriot (since Marvel has sort of brought that character back into the reader's attention).

He's gonna stay Winter Soldier. That's just the way it is.

There will be no identity hopping, and if they do, it will always revert back to Winter Soldier.

They should just have Bucky do a team up book with Nick Fury. It'd be awesome watching those two kicking a** and taking names. Just a two man A Team book.

I imagine WINTER SOLDIER will be close. Basically, Barnes, Fury, and Black Widow "kicking a** and taking names". :awesome:

I wish they'd just call him "Bucky" again instead of "the Winter Soldier." There's all kinds of bad juju attached to that name--juju that Bucky's actually gonna be trying to set right in his new series, making his retaking that name make even less sense.

The book is Winter Soldier, but has it been said that he's gonna be calling himself that?

Nope, that's an assumption on my part. Still, though, look at this thread. People don't seem to be satisfied with just "Bucky."

Cuz it's a stupid name.

It immediately conjurers pictures of a buck tooth geek wearing suspenders. And not ironically. :o

It immediately conjures a picture of Bucky to me, since he's pretty much always called Bucky anyway, even when he's supposed to be the Winter Soldier.

The most famous Bucky is the mascot for Wisconsin U.

He's a badger.

It's not about you.

It's about those mysterious new readers they're always talking about. :o

You misunderstand me. If I've never heard of him, then he doesn't matter. Bucky should be Bucky, goddamnit. :argh:
