What the f--k?!?! In Lester's version (if I'm correct) Superman gave up his powers AND THEN slept with Lois. In the Donner version it's the other way around. HOLY CRAP! That just brings up a MILLION questions!!!! I thought Superman couldn't have sex with humans? But, I guess the producers of Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman were correct after all. Who would have known?

Exactly where did it ever say that Supes could'nt have sex? This seems to be an invention of people who saw Superman 2 and Mallrats. Was this issue ever adressed in the comics ?

I think many people don't understand the point of the scenes in Superman II - either version - where Clark encounters a bully in a diner.

The point of the scenes is to show that Clark is supposed to be Superman to right wrongs. Clark instinctively tries to do it the first time he encounters the bully, but the guy kicks his ass. This is a big alert to Clark, "You're not Superman anymore, you can't do what you're supposed to." (As Jor-El tells him in the Donner cut, he has a mission and he should stick to it.)

When Clark, with his powers back, returns to the diner, it's not for revenge. It's because the bully has always needed a comeuppance, and Clark couldn't do it the first time. Look at the way the bully treats the staff - the guy is a thug, and has obviously attacked many people like he did Clark. Finally he gets what he deserves.

That's why the scenes are in both Lester and Donner cuts, regardless of the turning-back-time thing in Donner's. It's not about revenge.

HI

I skipped thru the Donner cut and saw this. I wonder if they didnt make an error in editing the scene in.

It made NO sense to me to give up powers afterward.

If you watch the Donner cut, it's explained. The sex HAS to come before Supes' gives up his powers. This is because Superman doesn't give up his powers to have sex with Lois - that would cheapen the character; to give up his power to save lives so he can shag. No, the point is Supes wants a life he can devote to Lois and not to all humanity.

Because of his heroic nature, Superman couldn't devote his life to Lois no matter how hard he tried. He would always help people in need. The only way to stop himself is by taking away his powers, which Jor-El does.

But when Clark realises the mistake he's made, he finally understands that he's on earth for a higher purpose. No matter how strong you found the Christianity themes in Superman Returns, they are even stronger in these parts of the Donner cut.

It all makes sense in the Donner cut. It's beautiful.

I think the Superman can't have sex thing was just a joke that people started to believe was canon across every Superman medium.

One of the Mods. I posted this in a new thread.

I've never thought in Lester's cut that Superman got rid of his powers just to give Lois a boning, I thought it was so he could devote his life to her NOT the entire world. In Donner's cut, Jor-El seems to make the choice more of an ultimatum; Lois, or the powers, not both. He can either devote his life to being mankind's saviour, or devote his life to Lois. :super:

I found the Lester version to be more of an ultimatum; the Donner version was Supes stumbling and making a clear mistake, like all sons do, against his father's best advice. Jor-El could see his son was making a mistake, but knew it was one he had to learn himself, so he let him.
