The whole Spider-Man debacle is an issue in that of itself. Personally, I LOVED The Amazing Spider-Man series, yes especially 2. Looking back I think the Raimi trilogy is a bit dated now and wasn't a huge Tobey Macguire fan. I'd rather Spidey stay 100% Sony and continue with Garfield BUT... I can't deny I want Spidey in the MCU and to assemble with the Avengers. But that is all beside the point, I am not here to argue that or want to but want to show where I am coming from.

It's already been confirmed no origin again, OK, yeah sure, makes sense. All audience don't want or need that again. But given two franchises in a small space of time what do we fall back on?

What I mean is the two series hit a lot of great, important points in Spider-Man lore. How do we keep it fresh? Both films covered Harry Osborn Green Goblin. The first film handles the eventful death of the first Green Goblin which is widely known and loved in the comic mythos. The second film deals with the the historical "Spider-Man No More" from Issue #50. Finally the third film gave us the alien symbiote and Venom. Meanwhile, Webb's movies gave us the death of the Stacies and was bold enough to offer us the (or should I say "a") history on Peter's parents. Raimi gave us Doc Ock, Sandman & Venom. Whereas Webb gave us Electro, Rhino & Lizard. This is not to say that all of these villains cannot be used again, of course not but they are still relatively recent. Again, these two franchises were almost back to back, not like a near 20 year gap between Nicholson Joker and Heath Ledger's Joker.

Plus, then there are the stories to fall back on. Of course, there are more to touch on and the ones mentioned above aren't the only ones BUT they are important. I mean if you write a history paper on Spider-Man and leave out Stacy and Goblin, I'm going to deduct points. However, they can always invent new stories I suppose. Part of the problem is I want these stories established in the MCU BUT we shouldn't be watching the same thing again.
It is possible we could retread Raimi's villains first over Webb's. I'd argue people would be fine with a movie starring Venom if they get it right this time. Of course there are still OTHER villains out there we can use, but even Spidey has his list of mediocre crap villains. Batman has his as well among his great rogues gallery.

Should we borrow more heavily from Ultimate Spider-Man? Make Osborn even more of an unlikeable corporate a-hole with no interest in Harry than just a guy with some anger problems who wants to be a dad but sucks at it? Mesh little details from other comics like Spider-Man 2099 for example maybe Alchemax exists already and is a rival of Oscorp? Or maybe Flash Thompson gets the symbiote before Eddie. Now I'm just brainstorming here, not really serious here. But I hope you all get my concern with the reboot we have once again.

I'd say they keep it fresh by giving us new characters and villains we haven't seen yet, toning down the romance side of things (at least while he's in high school), focus more on Peter's responsibility as a hero, and just give us good movies that all work as stand-alone films -- despite the inevitable sequels (similar to how the Raimi trilogy and Nolan trilogy did it).

If they can do these things, I can assure you'd have a lot-less complaints.

Less romance. New villains like Mysterio, Kraven, Vulture, etc. Make Spider-man funny, they tried with Garfield but he really wasn't all that funny and get Peter right this time. It'll also be different because we'll have him with Cap, Iron Man and other Avengers.

Concidering that they are doing Peter Parker and in high school too, so there is no chance for a movie that COMPLETELY different from the previous ones. But one thing they can do is new supporting cast, really showing the life of Peter in high school and fleshing out other people than just Flash (it doesn't have to be a whole lot, but something).

Also it needs a confident vibe. A solid idea for a plot instead a list of seperate ideas in a sloppy mix.

But even then it makes me wonder, how can they make a movie that's different enough that it wont make all the mainstream movie-goers groan. Often when someone mentions the Spider-man fatigue that general audience has, some people act like it's not a real thing. Us loyal Spidey fans may not count the TASM series, so as long as the movie is good as whatever it is we're fine with it. But I assure you guys, for the GA the TASM series counts, and they need something different and fresh. Marvel Studios have the luxury of being able to stop producing some of their solo series when they get stale, because they still make money from all the other solo movies and Avengers films, but Sony has no choice but to do Spider-man solo movies to earn their share

Yikes. This is a thought. What if Spider-Man as a solo has reached his peak, and he might be better off like The Hulk, in an ensemble than in his own flick?

Make it as different from terrible ASM movies as possible. That is most important thing.

Yeah, all I remember was a lot of flash and bang, but not too much substance. The flash and bang mean nothing without the substance.

Less romance and no origin instantly gives the movie more time for character development.

Please none of the anti-ASM crap. It did do interesting, new things and borrow well from the source material as did Raimi's. I'm simply asking how do we invent the wheel a third time... so to say.

But, yes I do believe there maybe a Spider-Man fatigue, since they rebooted the series in less than a decade.

I would love to see what Feige & MARVEL would do with the Clone Saga. It's a risky thing, but it would be something fresh, wouldn't it?

Six-arms-saga would blend in well with Kraven's Last Hunt, so they can mix those two storylines imo.

What I think needs to be done justice is the symbiote suit. But not until the third solo outing from MARVEL/Sony.

Limit the romance.
Give us a bit more of Parker's life at the Daily Bugle.
Shelve Green Goblin for a while.

For me first I want to see the spidey humor really used in fits and in general. Second let's for at least the first two solo films use villains we have yet to see. I do want norman ock Conners there too. But be minor characters pre villain forms. I also want to see more spidey supporting players used and developed. From midtown/esu guys. To the bugle staff and the key nyc police figures.

Don't know about you guys, but I want Peter/Spidey to soliloquize. Not all the time of course. We haven't had that so far, yet it's an important aspect in the comics. I know on paper it's actually thought bubbles, but I think it would be weird to hear his thoughts on the big screen. A soliloquy is great equivalent imo.

-I would argue TASM is the first cbm where I gave a crap about the romance, I thought it was executed well. But I could maybe see us skipping all and any romance for the first film.

-I totally forgot about the Clone Saga and yeah Kraven's hunt would be great.

-I agree with shelving Green Goblin.... for a while. We should build up to him. I was wondering if we used the FOX Kids animated Green Goblin, where he was basically the better, superior version of Hobgoblin, where Hobgoblin was your average crook where Green Goblin was truly a threat to Parker.

those are very important points , both film series dealt with romance, a lot, and the Daily Bugle was bearly present in TASM

i say do highschool, focus on Peter dealing with non-romantic relationships and his school life, maybe being late for class sleeping in class , running late for apointments, etc. Also finance troubles as he has to get a Job as an intern in the Daily Bugle... you know...classic Parker drama.

I want a villain as good as Kingpin. I've watched all the Marvel movies from all of the studios and the only villains I absolutely love are Doc Ock, Shaw (X:FC), Magneto (sometimes) and Loki (sometimes). I want a great villain with a rock solid motivation. I include the look with regards to a great villain and that is why Goblin isn't on my list.

I actually think they could do more with the teenager / high school aspect. Spectacular Spider-man focused on that more. In the Raimi films, Peter Parker was an adult after ten minutes. In the Webb movies, we saw little of him actually living like a normal teenager.

Trying to balance that, with being a superhero.

I also really hope that they don't shy away from his two biggest villains. Recast them, and feature them prominently. And don't have them be good people driven crazy. I am so tired of that.

We also don't need to see the origin again. Everyone and their mom knows how he became Spider-man.

I would say Spider-man could spawn a huge avenue of movies and spin-offs. I would argue one trilogy of high school Spidey, and then another outside of high school.

It's very sad to see it go so wrong for ASM. Absolute truth, I had tears in my eyes when I saw the full trailer for Amazing Spider-Man. He was wise cracking in the back of the cab, the swinging was practical and looked real, he was dodging bullets. Oh well.

I like that.

What I think the Webb movies did well was that they actually hinted at other villains. With the Raimi film, each villain's backstory was confined to the movie they were in.

That's a good thing. You're watching a movie not a television episode.

Like I said before I like to see midtown esu cast and the bugle cast get used alot better this time.

I think it would be easy to make the new series different, since every single one of the previous movies had a science experiment go wrong.

Focus on crime fighting and organized crime. Have high school be an integral part of Peter's life. Utilize his rich and diverse supporting cast. Basically, channel the Spectacular Spider-Man cartoon.

No, it shows a lack of foresight, and a rather lack of imagination. Three lab accidents in a row? What are the odds of that?

I'm saying the movies should be self contained and have a beginning, middle and end. Three lab accidents has nothing to do with that.
