Attack the Block

So great! Can't believe I slept on this one for nearly a decade. The aliens design should be objectively funny but they're actually really, really cool. They have the campy character of an original Star Trek beast or something Tom Baker would wrestle with on Doctor Who but executed with a little bit of a budget.

CAPONE

Josh Trank's CAPONE is going and it felt like i was going with him

PRAISE: The last days of Al Capone are framed up by Director and Writer Josh Trank and when the film reflects on Capones past, hit me with a couple of nice visuals and actors including Tom Hardy as Capone,Linda Cardellini,Jack Lowden,Noel Fisher,Kyle MacLachlan and Matt Dillon giving it their all the movie is quite watchable
I thought the FBI pursuit of Capone even at his stage of deteriorating life was interesting.
I had hoped for more flashbacks of Capones life but....

PROBLEMS:What Trank offers is a graphic look of what someone experiences when they are dying, and not just flashes of it but lingering shots of bodily fluid and decay.
The make up applied to Hardy was distracting like something out of the Dick Tracy movie.
Plus i couldnt understand what he was saying at times.
A plot thread that could have lead to something great goes nowhere.
One reveal made no sense as i thought about the set up of the reveal.
Trank showed so much promise with the film Chronicle but gave the world the lopsided and
lukewarm Fantastic Four
CAPONE is a mess....literally !!

UFO Abduction aka The McPherson Tape (1989)

Not a good film, but an interesting one.

Gave Top Gun a watch yesterday, realised I hadn't seen it in the longest time!
Typical 90's action film, actually got me looking forward to the new one.

The Jetsons Movie

This came out when I was 9 years old, and it still remains special to me. My late grandfather and I watched the original show when I was a kid in the 80s, and even though this one wasn’t a mega hit, I still enjoy it. Mel Blanc and George O’Hanlon actually died during production, but they had finished most of their voice work before hand.

It also pretty much serves as a finale to the entire series

Ma.

Not gonna lie: I mostly watched this intending to make fun of it but it actually wound up being sort of alright. It has a reasonably well written, funny screenplay and there's tremendous novelty seeing an actress like Spencer commit so totally to something so absurd.

It does feel a bit torn between wanting to be a thoughtful, respectable social horror film and a trashy, campy teen slasher. The latter being more effective than the former although it does do a good job making you feel for Ma and the twist about three quarters of the way through is actually kinda upsetting.

Also the lead girls love interest looks exactly like a creepy face meld of every actor who has ever played Peter Parker. It's highly unsettling.
