What's the Most Popular Show Set in Your Home State?

Nope, look at the map on the first post DS. We got stuck with the freaking Golden girls bro

I don't think Golden Girls is actually bad a choice. I haven't watched much of it, but from I have watched it's not a bad show, and 6 out of it's 7 seasons (and six straight seasons) were in the top 10 viewing wise, so it's not like it's outside the realm of possibility or that much of a surprise.

But Walker, Texas Ranger over Dallas really is surprising considering Dallas was and is a much more popular show than Walker, Texas Ranger.

The Walking Dead..which I have yet to see a single episode of.

New York, Seinfeld and not Law & Order? I call bull.

It's not bull at all. New York is definitely Seinfeld over Law & Order and it's not even close. I figured that's one of the most obvious ones considering how immensely popular Seinfeld was and still is.

Probably blue heelers and that finished years ago

I don't think North Carolina will ever outlive The Andy Griffith Show. It's, like, the state theme song down here. Hell, it's the second national anthem of the south behind "Dixie." Maybe third, behind "Free Bird." *whistles*

Of all the kick butt shows set in Florida I'm stuck with the freaking Golden Girls. Really?

I'm a little older...but Golden Girls was a good show - a classic! And don't pretend you don't know the theme song either...

I'll be honest though, I can't think of any other show set in Florida that was a classic, or was new and incredibly groundbreaking.

I think there's a lot of tough competition in NY. Seinfeld has been considered a classic and one of the best shows ever. Mind you, the Cosby show could easily be a strong contender for that spot as well.

I think folks need to realize, the shows selected (while a somewhat subjective exercise), were probably selected because of viewership, awards, ratings, longevity, and their influence on not just the television medium, but also pop culture more generally.

Well I can't lie I remember watching it growing up, it was pretty darn funny. Just wish something cooler than that repped the FL

The Brady Bunch…really?...

Miami Vice springs to mind. In many ways it was an icon of the 80's and it very much was a classic, groundbreaking show.

I'd include Dexter but it subverted itself with its last, terrible season into becoming a joke.

I think some are mistaking what's most popular for what's best. Golden Girls was way more popular than Burn Notice ever was, though it had way less competition to deal with back in its day too.

Ya the only thing that I think could give GG a run for it's money would've been NCIS: Miami. That was on a major network and was very popular. Dexter and Burn notice were on premium and cable channels respectively. No where near what major network shows get

Yeah, I mean, there are some premium (Homeland, Big Love, The Wire, True Blood, Sopranos), and cable (Breaking Bad, Justified, Walking Dead) but that's because those shows were either immensely popular or a result of slim pickings from the state.

I mean, for the longest time most shows were either in NY, California, or some suburban neighborhood of any of the other major cities (Chicago, Philadelphia, etc.)

What shows aside from Homeland, are set in Virginia?

The Cleveland Show. :funny:

It's actually hard to say since some take place in DC or suburbs of DC which happen to be in Virginia, but does it count as Virginia or DC? JAG supposedly takes place in Virginia, but you can make the argument that takes place more in DC.

With Homeland, most of the non-international stuff takes place in Langley, Virginia. Langley, unlike the location in JAG, is not a suburb of DC, but many people commute to DC because of the connectivity between the CIA and everything in DC.

The Virginian, of course. :o
Actually, that was set in Wyoming, so VA is still outta luck.

Actually, The Waltons was set in VA, and in terms of popularity, endurance, and pop culture impact, it was huge in the 70s. I call shenanigans on leaving that one out.
