Wheelchair-Bound Woman Dies After Being Shocked With Taser 10 Times

I keep picturing an old lady in a wheelchair with a toolbelt, speeding around town yelling "I'm the Tool Man"

I need to get myself a taser!

-TNC

there is a civillian model if you are willing to part with 1,000 dollars u.s. It lasts for up to 30 secs police issue go from 5 to 10 the difference is the civillian model lets you catch your breath every ten seconds.

I know because I work at the local police department and took the taser certification test today and to be able to use one you have to get shot, and take my word for it, if a cop has one of these and is giving you instructions listen because trust me it hurts when they hit you.

in reference to the topic they should have maced her.

J/K 9 times is a little excessive

It's fun, though. Haha. Kinda.

its fun when it shuts off, but for that full five seconds its not I promise. We were laughing at one of the cops that had to have it done, trying to figure out how he managed to get the breath to do the cussing he was doing.

I've had it done to me. You only had to do it for 5, but we were daring each other to go longer and ****. I went for 10 seconds. One guy went for almost 16 before the instructor made him stop.

This thread, & the other Taser thread is proof that a picture is worth a thousand words. If there had actually been a video of this poor woman dieing from a Taser. Most of you wouldn't be taking it so lightly.

Except Kritish. Who eats childrens dreams while they sit helplessly tied to a chair in front of him.

I can't imagine, your talking about the pronbes and not drive stunning right. we got both of those today.

Yeah, not drive stunning. They don't waste a cartridge one each of us, so they hooked the electrodes to our shirts. It was brutal, but fun. I think.

you used to be "guybrush begins" right?
I don't feel so guilty about hating you now.

thank you for the new sig.
PS police officers aren't running around out there using their tasers on anything that has a pulse. while it's sad that the lady died, i'm not going to feel bad for someone that voluntarily put themselves in a situation where there would be a chance that someone would have to use force to rectify the situation (IE: causing a public disturbance, putting herself and possibly others in physical danger, not complying with the police when asked to stop).

they didn't even ask us if we wanted to do that they shot us and I got the holes in my back to prove it.

The feds really abuse tasers dont they? Whether its guns or shock tags, those jakes are trigger happy....

each police department has its own policy, the way I understand it, ours at the one I work at is verbal no compliance. which means if I tell you to do something and you don't and I am certified I can light you up.

the you is at anyone in particular just relaying the policy in my understanding.

I think it would have made the story lighter if it was discovered that as she was being tased, the wheelchair was doing donuts.

So, where are all the people from the other tazer thread that were talking about how that student deserved to get tazed because he resisted arrest and caused a scene? Why aren't they in here saying those same things about this lady? She caused a scene, resisted arrest and actually had weapons which kind of makes her worse than the student (they may actually have BOTH been mentally ill, so I'll let that one slide). Come on, people. Let's see some consistency, here!

Well, first there's no video showing what happened, but from the article, it's sounds like the cops are in the wrong here, just because a taser was used in both incidents doesn't make it the same. This woman probably couldn't put up that much of a fight or run around like the UF kid, they might have felt the only way to disarm her was to tase her, but after she's been disarmed, there's no reason, 10 times is way too excessive, without the use of your legs it fairly difficult to resist. Also the UF kid wasn't mentally ill, he was an attention ****e.

These incidents are almost a year and a half, it says this happened in April '06, I think it safe to say it's only getting air/press because of the UF incident.

haha i saw that on the news the other day... funny ****. but lets be honest... the woman had a shell of a life left to live...

family will be getting a lot of money from the cops.

People seem really fragile.
Dying from playing a video game for 3 days...dying from getting tasered 10 times.
Lightweights.

Whatever happened to chainsmoking all day then going on a 10 mile hike then getting both legs blown off by a landmine and dragging yourself and your wounded buddy through a swamp to the med chopper?

The family's only sueing to get money. The article looks bad, but it doesn't tell the full story. I'm sure the police had their reasons to zap her 10 times. I always err on the side of the cops. It's up to the courts to decide if the police where excessive, that's why we have them.

I know this may shock people, but people have died by police hands before tasers. There was a time when cops used bullets. Sometimes people die by accident. Rarely people die because of corrupt police, unless you're black and lived in the south years ago. Most of the time though, the police are justified. The family of the deceased may not think so, and sometime the general public may not think so, but a jury of their peers did. It may not be a perfect justice system, but it's the only one we have.

I think the moral of this story is don't do something that will get you tased

I always err on the side of the cops.
That's stupid. Cops are human beings and it has been proven that they often abuse their power and the reason they became cops in the first place is because they're effed up psychologically. Stories of their corruption and/or ineptitude are beyond numerous.
