Where are all the Marvel games??

I mean, they choose the popular characters. And considering the X solos we've gotten, I think Magik has become one the more popular X characters.

Which justifies Magik being in Midnight Suns and Marvel Rivals. But Storm, Logan and Erik have been representing mutants since MvC 3. Despite how I feel about Logan, I love Storm and Erik, but there is a massive amount of characters to pick from.

I'd argue Cyclops, Gambit, Jean, Rogue are highly popular characters as well. And I'd also argue Cyclops and Phoenix would fit a cosmic adventure better than Logan.

I get Wolverine is popular, but he wasn't in MvC4 either. Would that be such an end of the world if he was replaced by another X-Men character in one single game? Same for Erik and Ororo.

My point remains about having a massive list of characters to pick from, but being limited by the same options in the last few years.

Aside from Spider-Man insomniac games, I can't say I'm happy with the state of Marvel games. There hasn't been an actual X-Men game with plenty of playable X-Men characters since X-Men Legends II. The Wolverine game is taking forever. The 2020 Avengers was a disappointment. Guardians was a sales failure and even though I enjoyed it, they limited it to Star Lord as the only playable character.

Then the rest, like Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, Black Panther, Dr. Strange, Ant-Man, we have seen 30+ movies from Marvel Studios and those characters still have don't have a definitive modern videogame. And who knows if the upcoming game for Blade, Iron Man, Captan America and Black Panther end up great, I can't say yet that I'm confident they would turn out just fine.

I get this, but I do think part of the decision is:

1. Who works best in a beat'em up.

and

2. Who the studio making the game want to use.

I'm sure a big part is company mandate, but honestly looking at the line up so far, just feels like who the game studio thought fit best,

Yeah, lets not use MvC:I as an argument, as that was when Perlemutter was halting the use of X-men and FF as much as he could. And trust me, the lack of Wolverine was a very, very big problem for that game.

Welcome to the current state of AAA gaming, where you can't just churn out games.
Well I am certainly not new to gaming for you to point that out. Ten years ago, developers didn't take this long to "churn out" games and we could have experienced several other Marvel games a decade ago.

lol..yes the lack of Xmen as a whole contributed to that game being a flop. Overall people ignored and did not touch it

yes like Sithborg alluded to, MVCI was dead on arrival and largely bc the Xmen were excluded

Remember when Marvel VS Capcom games had Storm, Cyclops, Psylocke the Wolverine, Magneto, Colossus, Iceman, Marrow, Rogue, Gambit, etc... good times.

By the leaks, if I'm not wrong, Marvel Games needs Insomniac permission to use X-Men characters in other games, which made me joke about these same 4 characters being the only option in the last few games.

Anyway, I just took that to express the frustration of having a limited option to pick from in the last few games, when there's a big amount of A-List characters. I'm glad, at least you, got my point.

Right, but I think there's a difference between the lack of X-Men characters contributing to the game flopping, and the specific lack of Wolverine contributing to flopping it.

I think Gambit, for instance, is a character which appeals to the same, or at the very least similar, fanbase of Wolverine. And yes, I know Logan is more popular.

Anyway, I think I did make my point about my frustration in having the same options lately.

I would like to see another Marvel fighting game made by Capcom. But with only Marvel characters. There's so many Marvel characters that I haven't seen in previous MVC games - the Fantastic 4, Nightcrawler, Beast, Emma Frost, Silver Surfer, She-Hulk, Daredevil, etc.

So, should we start taking bets on whether Blade or Rise of Hydra actually release?

And another one bites the dust.

I swear if I'm only into Pc gaming, I would create my own Marvel games through Unreal Engine! I can't really count/anticipate on Marvel games anymore, its like there's always a oh no moment!

Video Games take longer and longer to make these days and there’s been very little to show for Blade and Wolverine. So like that canned DC Wonder Woman game it’s not apparent what if anything is happening. Superheroes are cooling off in box office interest and there might be some concern about that happening to the games maybe.

Its poor management of gaming studios, rather than lack of market for superhero games.

I think Wolverine is safe. Sony in general has been keeping things close to its chest this gen and Insomniac isnt one of the studios Id be concerned about

I don’t love that. I think a black panther game would have been ace.

Crazy he hasn’t had one yet
Is it? Id say he wasnt really a mainstream character until his movie and at the time, Marvel wasnt really making videogames, hence this thread. Its only fairly recently that they started to invest in games again

If there was synergy between the movies and the games, a new game for someone (movie tie in or not) should have been out months or a year between each other.

All Phase 1 movies except for Avengers have a movie tie in game, but they weren't good. They were probably rushed, didn't have great sales and since then they didn't bother.
