I was talking to my Mom about this the other day, and after reading the "which dead celebs do you miss most thread", I got to thinking about this.

My mom remembers where she was and what she was doing when JFK was assassinated. (she was lying down sick while pregnant with my brother.

So where were yall when significant events happened. I thought this'd be interesting since this board has people of all ages from all over.

So... where were you?

the night Princess Diana died, my Mom and I were watching tv when it cut across the screen. I was really young and I didn't know much about the world, but I knew who she was and I was just shocked.

When 9/11 happened, I was in my Honors English 11 class. We'd just gotten back from lunch when we heard about it. We turned on the tv for a little bit, but they made us turn it off and wouldn't let anyone watch it. It wasnt until I got home that I could really find out what had happened.

When Dale Earnhardt died, I was at dinner with the family at a Chinese restaurant. We'd watched the race and saw the crash and went to dinner. We thought it was just a regular crash, common in racing. When we got home that night, we'd left the tv on. When we walked in the door, they was a picture of him on the screen with the years underneath. We just kinda stood there in shock.

I just got home from work one night. I had a TON of IM's waiting for me. I thought it was strange, a sick joke, maybe. . . then I got a phone call. Dimebag Darrell was dead.

I couldn't believe it. I still can't believe it. On this day, December the 8th, Dimebag died.

Princess Diana's Death: I was on vacation in Maine. The accident happened on my birthday and she died the next day.

9/11: I was at my college workstudy job and we went and got a radio. I had to call my roomies who had family in the city. It was rough. What a strange day.

I was in 5th grade at school in the city when 9 / 11 happened. I couldn't get home that day because I lived out in Staten Island. Me and my uncle (who worked in the fourth tower), spent the night at my cousin's apartment. My cousin actually worked quite high up in the first tower. Had it not been for his fiancee, he would've been killed that day. Thank God, and his now wife, he's okay.

Diana's Death: My Dad and I just got back to his place after a party and it was on when we flipped on the TV... buzz kill.

9/11: I had been writing in my room for like 2 days and my cousin came over and bust in my room crying about what she saw on TV.

When the Space Shuttle Columbia blew up I was in HS gym. That was rough, the teachers were pretty upset.

I was in London when Diana died, the whole city shut down and that was it for trying to see the city on holiday.

9/11 I was only a mile from the Pentagon,I was doing a renovation job and a co worker came up and told me I didn't believe it. I smelled something but couldn't imagine that it was the remains of the building. I couldn't get across the bridge home to DC,they shut it down. I literally headed for the hills,a lovely hostel lodge on the appalachian trail in Virginia. Such a beautiful fall day.

9/11: I was at school in 5th Grade, that day we actually had a game day and did no work, and I didn't find out anything until I went to my friends house after school and found their family watching the events unfold on CNN.
Princess Diana: I was staying at my grandmothers house.
Space Shuttle Columbia: I was watching television that morning because we didn't have school, when the news report broke into the show I was watching.

9/11 - Just got out of the shower and getting ready for work and my roommate called from downstairs saying something just hit the Twin Towers, got downstairs and looked at the TV just as the second plane hit.

Princess Di - I was drunk at my fraternity house. My friend was drinking Gin and Tonics, then just straight Gin, by the end of the night he was saying he was sorry for anyone who knew him. He was having a bad night, not because of Princess Di, but because of the gin. He thought he dreamed the news about Princess Di.

Princess Di- at home, having dinner when I heard I think
9/11- At home, got calls from people to turn on the news.
Croc Hunter- read it on the Hype

chevy to to the levy, but the levy was dry.

The night I heard...I heard...

The music died

That's where I was that starry starry night:csad:
Bye...bye...

I think I was at work when I heard Jerry Garcia died. :down

I was at work during the Sandy Hook shooting and did not hear about it until I got home that night.

I was at home waking up when I heard of 9/11 & I was at work when the tragedy of Sandy Hook occurred.

I was at home getting ready for second grade when 9/11 happened, watched it live on TV. I remember not completely understanding but realizing that something horrific had happened.

6 months earlier I had been sitting in my classroom in first Grade when the 6.8 Washington Nisqually Earthquake hit. thought the friggin world was ending.

I was in school when mount Saint Helens reactivated in 2004.

I was in a college class when Sandy Hook occured.

I was in middle school in NJ when 9/11 happened. Kids were slowly called out of class and I was to follow. No one knew what was going on and I went home to my entire family gathered watching what was on TV. I was 13

My dad worked across the Hudson River in NJ and said he rushed to the top of his office building with his co workers and saw the second plane hit the second tower.

I am game!
9/11 I was driving to work and heard the local DJ's on the radio say all across the country. The airports were shut down.I worked close to the airport and didn't see anything abnormal and thought they were pullin a prank on somebody.only when I got to work did I find out it was real!

Death of Michael Jackson- was at work,on this site and heard the DJ say he was unconsious and thought he would be okay and then later after found he had died!

Death of Elvis presley- I remember reading the paper with the big bold headline he was dead and knew who he was but didn't realize how much he was to people till I saw them crying on TV!

I was at school when I heard about the July 7th bombings in London. The day before I had been up there on a class trip to the National Gallery, and a different class was on the same trip that day. After it was clear what had happened, the other class stopped their journey up there and came back to school. I remember a lot of stupid theories about how the bombings were caused by the French as retaliation for us being made hosts of the 2012 Olympics.

I also remember hearing about the sinking of the Costa Concordia on the news... literally straight after playing the boat-based levels of Uncharted 3. That was weird.

And I remember hearing about Sandy Hook when I turned to BBC News 24 in my bedroom as it was becoming clear what happened.

And I was watching BBC Breakfast News as news of a Helicopter crash in central London came to light, almost watching things as they happened. That was the most current breaking news story I've ever seen.

When 9/11 happened I was getting ready to go to school, on my way out my mother tells me the twin towers were hit and I listened for the rest on the radio.

When Michael Jackson died I was working for my dad's business and that very same day had to drive to Los Angeles, remember that weekend how packed MJ's Hollywood star of fame was.

When the shuttle Challenger exploded I was in the 4th grade, our teacher told us about but it didn't really sink in.

When O.J. Simpson took off in his Ford Bronco I was watching it on TV like everybody else.

When O.J.Simpson's verdict was read it was a break period at my high school and you could hear the cheers when the verdict was said in the hallways.

When the Aurora theater shooting happened I found out early morninig getting ready for work.

9/11 happened, I wa sin 7th grade and the first few classes that morning had the TV's on.

Auror shooting, I had just gotten back from my TDKR screening and turned the TV on. The news channel had been left on and I was shocked.

Heard about Sandy Hook at work sometime around noon that day.

On 9/11, I was in high school in NJ. First period teacher said there was an explosion in NYC. TVs were on in every class and the whole school was frozen watching all day as kids were getting picked up. We could smell the burning metal from there. Intense day.

When 911 happened, I was in bed asleep as I had basically dropped out of school by that point.

When Sandy Hook happened I was at work. I heard a supervisor mention a school shooting but didn't think much of it not knowing any details and that children were involved.

Colorado shooting I heard about while eating with friends at Waffle House after the movie.

I remember when JFK Jr. had his plane crash. Me and my cousin had stayed up all night so we were watching it on the news at maybe 5am.

The Columbine High School shooting. .. I stayed home from school and was watching Sally Jesse Raphael. The breaking news cut into the broadcast and I watched it for the rest of the day.

9/11..... I had signed up for the Army on August 11, 2001 and was getting ready to ship out for basic training.

The Aurora shooting...... I was watching the midnight show. I came home , logged onto the hype , and found out the terrible news minutes later.

I was living in Bakersfield when the 1992 Los Angeles riots happened, and I didn't watch the news much but the next day our high school teacher talked to us about it.

When John Ritter died I found out about it on Yahoo's front page.

When Osama Bin Laden was killed I was watching TV when the news broke.

This wasn't that long ago a few hours before Steve Jobs died a terrible feeling came over me and I thought to myself "Oh my god, Steve Jobs is dead." Sure enough, I get home and 10 minutes later "Steve Jobs Passed Away Today ..." is all over the internet. It was weird because he'd been sick for months and months by this point and on this one particular day I thought about Steve Jobs and got the feeling that he was dead. This was a few hours before he died too, so I didn't read about it or anything, I just got the feeling.

I found about the Aurora shooting in the morning after it happened and I was very tired so my first thought was "Did this happen here? I know people who were going to watch it last night" and then I got worried but then I saw "Aurora, Colorado" at the bottom of the screen and was a little relieved.
