They could have used these actors more and developed their respective characters that they were playing! :cmad:

Basically everyone not named Wolverine, Magneto, Xavier, or Mystique.

But imo the worst were Cyclops & Storm. I could forgive alot more if Cyclops & Storm were developed instead of Magneto & Mystique.

Two big ones stand out. First was James Marsden as Cyclops who played the hell out of the scraps he was given. Considering how important the character is, it's amazing how sidelined he was.

The other is Kelsey Grammar as Beast. Best casting ever, nailed it, only appears in a crappy movie.

I say Blink and Cyclops, and Blink is honestly partly because I love the character and she looked fantastic. Of the others, most either weren't wasted or never convinced me that they had the potential to pull off anything more in the first place.

Alan Cummings, Ellen Page, Kelsey Grammar, and Anna Paquin were all portrayals that I liked and would've happily watched more of, but they all got good stories for themselves, even if the other stories around them weren't as good.

Lana Condor and Omar Sy seemed ok and may have had potential, but I didn't see anything amazing that makes me feel like they were wasted.

Alan Cummings and Kelsey Grammer were excellent and completely underused. I think people need to give up the ghost with Anna Paquin. IMHO she was always a terrible choice and could easily be recast.

Nah at 18, she fit the Rogue that written for the first X-Men.
And True Blood has proven that she can do "badass confident southern girl."

Anyways, didn't know this was multiple answer but I would've voted for James Marsden as well.

But Rogue will always be my fave (see avatar) :D

I've seen her in True Blood and I was not impressed. I think people need to stop trying to fit a square peg in a round hole. Anna Paquin was another one of Singer's poor casting choices. There is FAR better out there, I'm sure. We need new blood.

Meh. The thread asked for past actors, make a new thread for recasts if you want.

Cyclops, Rouge and Psylocke have all been severely underused as characters. That said, I don't think James Marsden or Anna Paquin were particularly good casting choices or good fits for the characters. They both bored me in the roles, I think they're both pretty bland actors. Jury is still out for me on whether or not Olivia Munn is a decent actress or not but I thought she looked about as close to comic accurate as you can get and did OK with the little dialogue she got so I'll vote for her.

I find it's strange they used Quicksilver but they let Scarlet Witch go in DOFP right when Marvel established their Scarlet Witch and killed their QS. It's almost like they agreed to split up the twins, QS in XMen and SW in Marvel. A little cameo would've done. SW could've been in Psylocke's place for Apocalypse, since she had very little to say. Psylocke could've had a meatier role. Psylocke for Deadpool anyone?

Edit: I wonder if they've had other arrangements, like making them keep certain creative members on board.

They should feature Psylocke in every X-Men movie from now on!

^totally! She's probably on a contract for a few installments. Use her up!!!

She walked away awkwardly in the end. She might come back.

Another waste was Jubilee, very well-portrayed, but just a meaningless cameo.

But, in hindsight, the one crucial mistake with this film was Jean Grey's development. Jean Grey pops out of nowhere with the Phoenix Force. And they should have built up to that. Maybe have Jean Grey meditating and training in the astral plane throughout the film to take down Apocalypse in the end. See, when Apocalypse hacked Cerebro, Professor X could have counterattacked by engaging Apocalypse in his mind then, not at the end of the film, but in the middle. After Charles' abduction, Jean could realize that that may be only the way to stop him and sets out to do so. Explaining the restraints which Charles applied to her powers would have also made sense, given she needs to break past them to unleash that power.

I feel that walk on air would have been a lot more compelling with a bit more development. Especially for an origins story of sorts. You can't just expect audiences to know what the heck's going on.

This series is just a mess. The lack of long term plan for the actual X-Men is just awful.

I re-watched most of the series recently: X1, X2, X3, First Class, The Wolverine, Days of Future Past and Logan. It was such a joy! and a lot less messy than many people claim it to be.

Most continuity issues are not really big issues at all (or come from the horrible Wolverine 1)

Please tell us what journey it was for characters such as Banshee, Havok, Emma Frost, Jubilee, Psylocke, Angel, Bishop, Blink, Rogue, Iceman, Kitty, Gambit, Colossus, Beast, Storm, Cyclops, Nightcrawler... after what ten films now? Obviously if it isn't Wolverine, Xavier, Erik and Raven, there's not much to tell. Okay you can include Jean in that foursome but there's still a lot to be desire of when it comes to handling the X-Men.

Ellen Page is a pretty big star to me. I don't see why they don't bring her back for another one. Been reading some of Whedon's X-Men stuff and it's like the role was meant for her.

Was she an X-Men fan before signing for X3?

Fox is stupid sometimes. Ellen is a lead of a sci fi film Flatlines. Halle and Channing are in Kingsman Two. The rest are always open to return and yet the X-Men should remain in the past again after First Class and Apocalypse underperformed while the Ot cast were the draw of Dofp.

If they can sign Jennifer Lawrence back on, that's the most expensive star out there right now. I would think they could afford the budget for an X5 with the original cast (or part of it). One mature X-Men team film.

Sadly, the moment has passed. And they have also killed Xavier and Howlett in the not so distant future and killed the rest off screen. We should have seen X5 last year and next year, it should be X6. But it's what you get when the mighty Kinberg is playing Fiege - an inconsistent mess and lacking in effective long term plans.

So long, the beloved original cast.

you are saying the same things over and over and over again. Here are 4 or 5 people active in this forum. I think we all know your boring record by now. What about coming up with something new to speak about?

And here you are making the effort trying to defend Fox again and again, when I rant about them for nth time How bout you just leave me alone. You can be Fox apologist, but leave those that differs from yours. And the cycle of complaining these problems again and again won't be over unless Fox get their s%&" together.
