Onstage, drummers usually have to stay in one place and keep the beat going. Off stage, they're far less predictable. As a rule, you want to be with the guitar player.
Avoid the drummer and avoid the HELL out of the singer.
Also, if there is a keyboard player avoid him as well, but for the opposite reasons that you should avoid the singer.
